I recall Turki coaching Sheeraz in a fight with Adames, absolutely dire.

Its not being discussed much because of how dramatic the fight was, but yet again another show from Turki where the pacing was abysmal.

The co main event was Sheeraz knocking out an absolute bum and then 1 hour of chatter.

IIRC the card started at 6pm and in those 5 hours before the lads got to the ring, we had Usyk's mate sparked out, 2 squash matches (Sheeraz and Sanchez), a dull ladies fight and a Jack Caterall fight . 😕

At least we got some drama in the main event, but while a lot of people focus on the politics and Turki when criticise his shows for me a huge issue is how slow these cards are and at times how gaudy and lifeless they feel even when their are elite fighters performing.

I find it very hard to score these awkward fights especially with this clash in styles but my take on it ,only round i was sure of was 1 was Rico , 2 have seen it given both ways but it was a scrappy affair. Usyk in general and I've thought this for the last few fights is definitely showing age catching him but still has an unreal engine , he worked for this moved a lot but did leave himself in the firing line also a lot! i think it was probably right call to finish it ,he was gone I thought from the knockdown , I hate the trying to buy a bit of time but understandable as well ,the guy gave it socks !It was a Beaut of an uppercut.

in general he may not of taken the training as hard or serious ,i know he does his dancing etc through all camps but he just seemed at a more relaxed pace through this

That’s a thing they are so hard to score. Things are so skewed by commentary as well because they are understandably surprised by Ricos performance. But he doesn’t win rounds simply by being better than reasonably expected

Exactly…something I said…so many want to see the monstrous upset and when the clear clear underdog seems to be doing very well, all they look at is him, and all they listen to is the commentary praising him….it's a innate bias. Lot of the work Rico was doing was of the mugging variety really; Usyk was the real boxer with far more clean work

Mad, in Usyk's 25 or so fights I think this fight against a non-boxer was his toughest physically and stylistically. He really had a hard hard time in there….Chisora fight was similar, but not as physically gruelling or tough

Alex krassyuk said he thinks Usyk needs to retire now and pointed out his last two fights have been heavy footed compared to his fast footwork that’s got him to where he is today and is putting this down to age

Warren saying Fury is fighting again in August and so is Itauma, vs a top 10. Both to be announced this week.

Spencer brown and fury said the same last week

Itouma should be against hrgovic once he’s got the all clear from the doctors

I don’t think Usyk has gone flat footed or old in 10 months. If it were an age thing then he’d still be nimble for a few rounds. He never looked tired. He looked the same against Chisora and even Witherspoon he looked more cumbersome than usual. That man can still dance the best.

Reading tris Dixon's book damage, the more I read the more I'm convinced folks retired that haven't taken huge damage should stay retired. Lot of poor outcomes for ex boxers in their 50s and 60s, to see Mayweather broke now is beyond depressing

    Beyond depressing? Cmon now.

He’s hardly a child who was led astray by a bogus crypto investment. Orchestrator of his own downfall. Gone broke trying to look rich.

Trying to look rich ? He made the guts of a billion he was rich , I find it depressing to be honest , very few good endings for boxers.

I knew he was rich, he knew he was rich but he went broke trying to “look” rich. The entourage at all times must have been costing him a small fortune. Jets, custom jewellery, cars……

    MC Hammer springs to mind.

So Fury vs unmaned opponent in The Three Arena August 1st

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,057 ✭✭✭✭walshb

How broke is he, though….I always felt that of all the athletes, never mind boxers, nobody seemed to be as vulgarly obsessed with cash as Floyd, and that he always came across as quite shrewd, albeit a flagrant type spender as well. I don't doubt that has has lost a lot, and owes a lot, but I'd say he also still has a lot. Maybe more case of a huge loss of money as opposed to him being any way close to actual cash debt.

I doubt that will happen, tickets are on sale already so they won’t just add fury to the card. No official announcement has been made and the fury post is being done by another bloke reposting the trainers post and sports media are using that as gospel

Wait for Frank to announce it with Itouma opponent to make sure

It'll be some bum like David Allen.

Warren and Spencer brown said they ideally want someone tall and with good reach to replicate Aj, it did cross my mind that it could be Rico but with the family fall out and the risk involved I can’t see it

Don't expect anyone who's a threat, there's too much money on the line.

I'd expect it to be someone less threatening than Makhmudov, but perhaps less proven that they're not actually up to it at the higher level.

Absolute best case scenario would be someone like Bakole, and even that isn't too exciting.

    Nice

What's craic with AJ-Fury? Has a date-venue been agreed and we are hoping both win their next bouts? Not certain Fury will have another bout first

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,705 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

no date or venue so far, Frank Warren is saying November but anything could happen over that period of time and the fight might never happen

Aj hasn’t won since wallin if you disregard the crossover fights and that’s 2023 I think so he could be a busted flush

Fury could retire with a shoulder injury at this point who knows
