I hear where you're coming from, but mainstream media did cover both stories. In fact, some outlets arguably gave more attention to the tragic killing of Mr. Coughlan in Blanchardstown, including repeated Garda appeals not to share the videos recorded by the attackers.

I genuinely think a lot of people no longer buy newspapers, subscribe to reputable journalism, or actually follow established media coverage. Instead, they rely almost entirely on social media algorithms and online commentary, then assume stories aren’t being covered simply because they personally haven’t seen them.

I asked him if he read any of the articles and he couldn't answer.

    Genuine question OP?

Have you ever been to a real slum? Like a real one?

I have. I've seen them when I travelled in Africa and also in the favelas in Brazil 25 years ago.

We have nothing and I mean nothing like this in Ireland.

fair question - (and appreciate the non name calling )

    I have not , thankfully

However, we only have to look at areas in tbe UK to see our future ..

Are you ok with non Irish areas ? (One might argue balbriggan / Adamstown are there already)

Are you ok with sharia law ?

Are you ok with being called racist because you don’t want to live in a a suburb of Mumbai ??

The OP's FB, X and whatever else they get their news from is probably feeding them stuff that makes them believe there is more coverage of certain events. It does the same convincing unquestioning minds that the country is being 'overrun' etc. I know plenty similarly brain washed by the algorithms on Social Media. .

A chill pill might not go amiss.

Facebook .. holy Moses , haven’t been there in years

I use X / or twitter as I call it for GAA scorez.

I use my eyes for seeing what’s happening around the country

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,066 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

    Oh, now it's your eyes?

    Here's exactly what you said:

This, and the subsequent protests get wall to wall MSM coverage.

So where did they get 'wall to wall' coverage on MSM

I consume a fair bit of MSM and have my SM set up to see what all the newspapers are covering. Seemed like normal coverage for news stories of their type to me.

And just like that, he is gone. Bless.

George Floyd had a very significant criminal record. Including holding women and a child at gunpoint and robbing them.

I myself would have very little sympathy for him. Other black men, including the innocent were lynched and hung for far less. The murder of Emmett Till for example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,196 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

I’m not doubting he was a criminal. It’s not an excuse for him to have been treated as he was, and in public like that. Seems as though some folks deem his death fine due to him being a criminal, that’s unsettling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,057 ✭✭✭✭walshb

he was retrained in public like he was because he would not comply. Refused and resisted. The cops never set out for that to happen. Floyd chose that path

so we've one murder, one probable manslaughter, at the very least - and your focus is on the shoplifting crime here?

    are you a human?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,634 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

It's the same on that other thread.

Complete focus on the man's alleged criminal past for minor petty offences as if this makes his tragic death somehow ok .

Maybe they would say the same about other petty criminals but it's pretty difficult to read hate like that on boards with no filter.

No proof just some social media 'news' account making massive leaps and unverified claims .

On the other unlawful killing ,the police have asked that the video the person made of Alex Coughlan:s beating to death not be circulated . Quite rightly .There is no other ban on general reporting afaiaa and it has been widely reported on every news outlet so far , so the premise that the op had that it is being hushed up is just bs and an excuse to go off the deep end .

The reason it is not being discussed so widely is that it is being pushed by certain groups to discuss the Sakila killing because it has more buzzwords for the likes of X , Gript , and other places that people who like that sort of narrative frequent .

It's sad world we live in .

RIP to both Yves Sakila and Alex Coughlan ,and condolences to their families and friends .

May they both RIP and the people who caused their deaths be brought to justice .

The problem with these discussions is there is never any balance. Just a load of prejudice a*seholes looking to blame the ills of society on one thing, one group, one law etc etc Hyperbolic nonsense.

Crime that shocks people happens in every corner of the earth. It's an unfortunate reality.

Do prejudice people have a point in certain cases...yes.....but the solution is to blame everyone of the same ilk and we all know how ridiculous that is.

Both men died, both men didn't deserve to die. Are the media bias?? Yes.....but there isn't a person walking the earth who isn't.

I work in the City Centre. I spend time on buses, Luas pretty much daily. I

m from the Dublin Central constituency. I walk around the areas you're talking about. O'Connell Street being one of them. which is certainly a kip and has been for years.

Not once have I ever seen a group of migrants intimidating anyone. Not once.

I've seen groups of lads be violent, i've seen groups be verbally abusive, i've seen trouble on the Luas more times than I care to mention. In fact, two of those times were when people tried to attack me. Add to that another two times i've almost been on the receving end of attacks in shops in town.

I've never once seen a group of migrants intimidate anyone. Not once. Each time i've seen intimidatory behaviour it's been groups of Dublin scrotes. Each of the times i've been on the receiving end of attempted attacks, it was Irish lads and on three of those occasions it was because they thought I was foreign, which I am not (I don't even look foreign).

The idea that Dublin has become some sort of no-go area swarming with violent invaders is totally invented. It's perpetuated by bot accounts on Facebook & Twitter and then parrotted by morons.

Dublin is unsafe, and we have our own ferel element to thank

Both deaths are tragic. Yves Sakila shouldn't have died just over a shoplifting incident, and the restraint by security guards needs proper investigation. Alex Coughlan was beaten to death in what was a vicious, unprovoked attack.

But it's a noticeable and repeated pattern in Irish media. When the perpetrator is foreign comment sections are locked. It's described as a death, a passing, a killing and not a suspected murder. Gardaí releasing a statement urging people not to share videos of the incident.

They should be asking for the exact same for the Yves Sakila video. There's already politicians and NGOs claiming he was murdered and racial profiled. Note that this is the same police force thats members leaked photos of a girl walking around Dublin City naked and obviously suffering a mental health crisis. This girl later commited suicide.

When the perpetrator is Irish, the comments section is left open and and fill with one-sided takes. The reporting is framed around racism.

This was the same when Ashling Murphy was murdered. The left in Ireland were speculating that it was carried out by an Irish man. We had radio presenters calling for Irish men to be licensed to walk the street. They were blaming the Catholic Church and Irish mammies. When it was revealed that the perpetrator was a Slovakian Roma Gypsy, the left quickly moved on. The comments sections were then locked. We only learned the true barbarity of this murder at trial. That he cut out the poor girls voice box and stabbed her multiple times

Ryan Casey's victim impact statement was censored, Rte did initially publish it, but was pressured no doubt to remove it. Ryan has received a lot of abuse by the left in Ireland, including Solidarity and PBP candidates.

Looking back at Wikipedia edits, this was removed. Despite the fact it's true and that she's on video making these claims.

The utter sensationalism here is off the charts. Have you ever thought about writing for a tabloid?

Mad that it has a Wikipedia page at all...

    Let me check something

The OP's FB, X ... is probably feeding them stuff that makes them believe there is more coverage of certain events.

It's clear as day that one is getting more coverage than the other, Yves's death is being reported on BBC, Channel 4, Sky UK, etc

One case is before the courts, the other isn't.

Not everything is a f*cking conspiracy theory.

Whereas I think creation of an excuse to go guns blazing was the OP's original point; transparently so.
