Just curious I think I was at a bit of this too, can hardly remember now. But I remember being at 2ManyDJs in the Electric Arena and sauntering up to the next tent, I think it was the Crawdaddy tent with the Southern Comfort bar, am I correct @Dreamweapon.

In my memory it was kraftwerk in the electric arena..but 2 many DJs definitely played too..so maybe I'm all mixed up

And arcade fire was the gig of the weekend

I've been giving the missus grief about missing kraftwerk so she could see adf for years 😂

But yeah adf would be a great addition

This is what happened. They gave it a go, fair pay to them, but just not that calibre of band, shouldn't have been put in that position. I agree with Fanirish that booking a major band would have been a push, but there must have been a DJ or two available. Roisin Murphy's health was flagged a few weeks beforehand, if I'm not mistaken.

Would love to see Jah Wobble added too, but it looks like his tour was last December / January. Where would he fit, I think the Global Roots stage would be perfect for his sort of set.

Kneecap still haven't sold out Marquee, slightly worrying for the big headline act for ATN

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,290 ✭✭✭endainoz

They've been doing loads of gigs lately though, might be a bit over saturated right now. I'm not sure who you believe is actually worried? ATN is already sold out.

Well themselves really, a so called know it all in this group seemed to think they would sell out in minutes and are a huge coup for ATN, I myself while looking forward to seeing them live believe they're no bigger a draw than a 8pm slot on main stage, so in reality I guess I'm just saying a meh, thought so

I can't speak for them in fairness but maybe they meant worry in a less financial way and more meant it as Kneecap aren't a strong indication of the festival going strength to strength quality wise and that might have a long term impact.

People talk about how last year was a particular anomaly, and l would agree in the sense that they banked massive billings as people blew up etc., but whilst they were still good acts I think the festival had before that as well always booked good acts and some years had better lineups.

This year though has somewhat poor billing and relies a bit too much on Irish and/or recent repeat acts all through the lineup, Kneecap are a very oversaturated act that have declined performance wise the bigger and more complacent they get, it also shows in this new album.

They might be a draw but many more interesting and novel acts are big draws as well and would have been better in the slot for a multitud of reasons, one being that unlike Kneecap there are artists who aren't playing all the way through the country regardless.

Exactly this, yes the festival sold out and that's great, it brilliant but as it stands you've main headline acts that can't sell out small venues (kneecap) and sub headline acts that equate to pub band novelty sessions (Mary Wallopers) can be very much worrying.

One sell out this year with these acts may equal a 50% sell out next year so it's worry some there too.

I'll be going to future ATN's regardless once it's on of course but that doesn't mean I can't complain or offer my 2 cents, I can't offer advice for bookings as who the hell am I only a punter, I can however give my wishlist, post who I'd like to see and what's their chances without a clown coming back with sarcastic comments, a simple reason is fair, accepted and appreciated.

Looking forward to this year's installment and parlay for many more 🤟🏼

When do tickets start to appear on resale for ATN usually? About a month or so out from the festival?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,290 ✭✭✭endainoz

Yeah around 6 weeks or so. There seemed to be a decent few floating around last year on resale if I remember right.

Resale window opened 19th April last year and still not opened for this year yet.

PSB have been one of my suggestions each year. They’re a perfect ATN band. Still think about their epic gig in the lashing rain at EP 2017.

That was a great gig in the rain. Was my first time seeing them. Saw them in the Olympia then after, great band

Asian Dub foundation played shambala in England last year

ADF played shambala last year (Northamptonshire)

100% agree mate. Still a lot of good on the lineup tbf, even gig and festival regulars that come here often but I somehow haven't seen them so I will enjoy it.

I would say to you, and everyone, to just be mindful of this approach; you could be denying yourself a great time. The Wallopers are very much a live experience. I wouldn't be into trad at all generally, and I only went to their first gig because I liked their hip-hop incarnation (TPM), but I'm glad I did, they are unbelievable craic, check out their ATN gig on YouTube. Still hardly ever listen to them at home. Same could be said for CMAT - I actively dislike country music, but she was the queen of ATN last year and I'm delighted I went to see her.

Stood around chatting afterwards and accidentally ended up seeing a band called ‘Sweat’. Think there was about 10 of us there. Lead singer referred to us as the hardcore and kept making eye contact. We couldn’t leave despite not having a clue who they were!😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭Le Bruise

this is true I guess. No fan of country but like CMAT and very much enjoyed her ATN performance. Just didn’t grab me at all when listening to Wallopers…happy to be proved wrong!👍

I'd absolutely second Beardy there. They're all about connection. Great craic but the stories and intros to some of the music defo make a difference to how you receive them. And of course they're great musicians aswell. I've seen them in front of big festival crowds at 2 different festivals outside Ireland and they had the crowds in the palm of their hands.

It was absolutely magic. Man how I miss that body and soul main stage amphitheatre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,522 ✭✭✭crl84

That ATN gig convinced me to never see them live again.

Never thought "would you ever shut the fu-k up yapping and play a song" more at a gig.

Music was fine if you're into that sort of thing I suppose.

Safe enough to say the Mary wallopers certainly aren't for everyone but those that do enjoy them are really into them.

Moretti is a big improvement on Rockshore, but the Guinness tent in the bandstand area will be a big loss for sure.
