If gomo works for you then great, but you're not going to find any long term fibre package with 200mb upload for cheaper than what you have right now. You would need 5gb plans to get 200mb upload again and swap providers every year to get anywhere near that price. Something to consider if WFH is important in your house, for the extra €25 a month with no increases.

    Hi all.

    Have a question.

I'm currently with Digiweb with fibre broadband which comes through eir open fibre network to our house.

Just signed up to new contact with Digiweb few months ago but after signing up ,got email from gomo offering gomo fibre broadband and did a check and can get there gomo broadband.

Have 9 months left on current contract with Digiweb. Has anyone left Digiweb lately to see how much they charge to terminate contract early. Ai Google says have to pay remaining amount left which is 9 months. Some where else days 55 euros and 100 euros so Abit confused. Thanks

I'm fairly sure it's a €100 charge if you cancel within the first 6 months and €50 if you cancel within the last 6 months.

"On termination of the Agreement under clauses 47 or 51 You shall pay to Digiweb; (i) all Charges accrued by You, plus (ii) a €100 fee within the first 6 months of the fixed minimum term or a €50 fee within the last 6 months of the fixed minimum term."

yes that’s on the order page.

But it’s the wording that’s misleading. It states 49.99 a month, and also Once Off Charge €49.99. No need for “per month” here. Or otherwise it should state the actual €29.99 a month.

Misleading and confusing to some I would think.

Yes I’m more astute than that myself. Just pointing it out in case anyone else is confused and panics.

I had Gomo installed since late last Thursday evening, the 21st, and during the signup process, I authorised Gomo to handle my cancellation with my previous provider, Virgin.

Both services are live, so I'm wondering how long it should take Gomo to effect the cancellation, and will I be notified when it's complete?

I'd get onto them on webchat tomorrow and double check

Yeah the website is having some teething problems at the minute. We were warned in work that for some reason the GoMo bot is sending customers into eir shops which obviously should never happen since GoMo is strictly online-selfserve only and unrelated to eir from a consumer point of view.

It's €30 a month for GoMo mobile customers or €40/m if the mobile is cancelled. Both with a €50 installation/activation fee.

I don't think anything happens until the 14 day cooling off period has elapsed.

I used my Pure UAN when signing up and I haven't heard anything from them yet, my 14 day period ends this Friday 29th I'll probably hear from them after that.

Dunno how I missed this - still sucks as can't get fibre at my house from Eir (due to be upgraded this year) and in contract with VM til November I think

Hopefully still have a good offer come then - it's a no brainer not having to argue with VM every year to get a discount (though worth still going into contract earlier with them if I get fibre installed soon)

I was on Gomo chat this morning, and they confirmed they sent the cancellation request to Virgin. They are 100% happy that it will be cancelled, but it will be down to Virgin when they actually do it and contact me to return the equipment.

I'm an old guy now and not really used to this chat lark! I found it a tad frustrating, to be honest. I eventually got my answer and will just have to get used to it 😉

Do any of you know what the procedure is for returning equipment to Virgin?

When using your UAN and staying on the same network, it should be cancelled straight away once the line is taken over.

Had an eir contractor/ engineer do a pre install ffb survey on behalf of Vodafone on my home last year while I was a customer of theirs with Vodafone fibre to the kerb.

The install wasn’t feasible as at the point where copper cable/duct enters my home inside front door there was no wall space to fit fibre termination boxes and more importantly no electrical outlets to power fibre units.

Having had time to look for alternatives I think the only feasible solution is to intercept duct on my lawn and divert it to side of my house this would involve approximately digging 4m of lawn plus 1m of footpath.

Question is has anyone had a ffb install where this type of work was carried out by eir/GoMo contractor to complete installation. I would definitely go for the GoMo ffb offer if they were willing to do the work required.

    Thx

I used VM for less than a week, it was dreadful so I cancelled over the phone, I was ok as it was within the cooling off period, I haven't heard a peep from them since. I have the crappy modem in the TV cabinet as I'm sure they'll come crying for it sometime. I'm so glad all this swapping malarkey is behind me.

I'm delighted this swapping malarkey is behind me, too. Hopefully, we can sit back and forget it for life, provided one is in their forever home, of course.

I know all the financial people recommend switching all types of providers to save a few bucks, but I don't care what anyone else thinks; it is just a pain in the ass.

You can order GoMo and they'll come out for another survey and you could ask.

If they say they can't install it, maybe try raising a complaint -

    Phone - 1800 223 212

    Email - complaints@gomo.ie

How do you manage to get it for less than a week.

    What speeds are people getting...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,583 ✭✭✭Gadgetman496

I'm waiting to get a cable installed at my desk to make my PC wired

I took this speed test on wireless after the install.

    Gomo Wireless Speed after install.jpeg

Wireless Speeds on a fibre (FTTH) 500Mbps Line.

On wireless, expect 300 to 450 Mbps for downloads and 30 to 50 Mbps for uploads. Wireless speeds are nearly always slower than wired connections due to physical barriers, device limitations, and network congestion.

Your exact wireless speeds will depend on several variables:

    · Download/Upload Speeds: While your 500 Mbps connection is capable of speeds up to 500 Mbps, your upload speed is entirely determined by your ISP's package. In Ireland, 500 Mbps fiber packages typically feature upload speeds of 30 Mbps to 50 Mbps.

    · Wi-Fi Hardware: If you have newer wireless standards (like Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7) on both your router and your device, you are more likely to achieve 450+ Mbps. Older devices will cap out at much lower speeds.

    · Distance & Walls: The closer you are to the router in an open, line-of-sight space, the faster your speeds will be. Speeds drop significantly when passing through walls, floors, or heavy furniture.

    · Frequency Band: Using the 5 GHz band will give you maximum speeds, whereas connecting to a 2.4 GHz band usually tops out around 70 Mbps due to network congestion.

To verify your maximum line capability and ensure you are getting what you are paying for, plug a laptop directly into your router via a Cat 5e/6 Ethernet cable and run a Speed Test.

The full 500 on wireless on my phone and iPad. I got the same when I was with Pure.

I ordered it online on a Tuesday evening the modem arrived on the Thursday and I connected it up, all was good until Saturday evening when it slowed to a crawl becoming unusable, rebooted the modem and it was fine until the following Tuesday when it did the same thing. Feck that for a caper, I took the modem off, reconnected the Pure router to the OpenEir ont and all was perfect. Later that day I rang cancelling the service, job done 👍

Yep its not far off - I recently signed up to Eirs 5Gb package for 2 years in March. Thats means I'll pay

    • 13 months @ €49.99 = €649.87
    • 11 months @ €53.99 = 593.89 (after €4 price increase next April)
    • Total = 1243.76 less €100 cashback = €1243.76 over 2 years

    Or equivalent of €51.82/m.

Im getting real world speeds of:

    • 4600 Mbs down
    • 280 Mbs up

Whilst the 5Gbs is clearly excessive, I needed the upload speed as Im pushing some very big files for work. When I do my final backup at the end of the day, what used to take me 12-15 mins is now done in 2.

Mixed results there. I'm still on an old expensive VM plan but Need it to be reliable for WFH. This gomo looks a bit too good to be true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,583 ✭✭✭Gadgetman496

I think you will always have mixed results and views from different users of all providers.

For example, CoBo55 (Post#194 above) said he had Virgin, and it was dreadful.

I'm leaving Virgin for this GoMo offer because, for my needs, I can't justify paying Virgin more than double (@ their full rate outside of haggling) than what GoMo are charging.

I was with Virgin for 14 years and received fantastic service. I never had an issue, ever. In those 14 years, the only time I had to contact them was to fight for a better price each year.

In your case, Flinty997, you work from home, and reliability is mission-critical, so you need to be cautious, and that's understandable.

I have no idea how GoMo is going to work out for me. I have only had it installed since last Thursday, May 21st. So far it's been fine, but who knows!

GoMo is only a 30-day contract, and if it doesn't work out for me, I'll leave and go back to virgin (maybe as a new customer in my wife's name). In my case, at that price, GoMo was well worth a punt.

Just curious, does your ISP show up as GoMo or eir?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,133 ✭✭✭feargantae

Whilst definitely excessive for the vast majority of users... I am immensely jealous! It's available where I am but I'm stuck in a 1Gb contract :(

I'm thinking similar to yourself. I've had decent reliability with VM but I did have an outage for about 6 days before VM did nothing about it. I can survive on mobile data if I was stuck. I really hate the haggling on price. I've had no offers for a long time from them. As leverage to switch away and back it's a good option.

Like many here, I swap providers yearly.

Otherwise you pay through the nose.

I'll be well happy to see the end of those shenanigans.
