Its amazing they can get anybody through the gate at Templemore if they are going that deeply into the vetting. Surely it should be limited to the past 5 years from the date the application was submitted and to people alive and currently residing in the state.

What relevance has an uncle who emigrated to New Zealand 20 years ago and still lives there to a new garda applicant?

Also it must be very upsetting for the relative in question and to the entire family to have some minor transgression that happened 20 years ago being dragged back up and possibly impacting whether the new applicant becomes a garda or not.

Bureaucracy gone mad - but new applicants better get used to it because that's how this organisation works - it sure does love its paperwork and paperwork handling skills are in more regard than anything else - like getting criminals off the streets.

I assume they would have to vet the people who are doing the vetting so you need more people to vet those people.

I haven’t checked in on this thread in a couple months but I applied back in October, passed interview and fitness no bother. I ran into an issue with medical as my unaided eyesight was outside the requirement and I ended up getting laser eye surgery over a month ago which went well and sent on a report from my eye specialist to OHS saying as such. They’re asking me to attend an appointment with a medical consultant at the Garda HQ but didn’t specify if it was to check my eyesight or if it’s something else. Wandering if anyone else has been asked to do the same?

Is it 8 weeks give or take for your drug testing to come back? I know you can contact them for the results if they’re back.

I know someone who had to go due to medication they where on when they where younger, just wanted more details and a letter from gp why she was on them, so then they have to send off their report to medical board

Should I have gotten results back from my substance abuse test?

Did my test in Jan, didn’t get anything back. I’m not concerned as I know I will have passed, but just wondering if I should have heard.

Is anyone in this thread a parent to young children? If so is there any special circumstances for staying full time in templemore ie allowed to come home some evenings?

I never heard anything after I done the test, the next thing I heard from them after that was booking in for the medical.

I did my station interview this month & I also know they went out for my references this month so I don't know what it all means as in I wonder when an offer will come through!?

@mike277 with the medical you have to give your gp details consent to them to contact if needed and they ask you all your medical history from birth basically

Hi All, I am thinking of applying through the new campaign. I am interested to know, in relation to people with young children, spouse and mortgage what is the situation regarding the station you are assigned to? If you get through to Templemore can you request to be placed in a station near home? For example if you are in the West can you request that you are not placed in Dublin or Cork? I really want to give it my all and go for it but I wouldn't be able to afford rent in another county whilst paying my mortgage. I don't mind driving an hour or so away from home but anything further would mean renting. Also, when do you find out your station, is it after Templemore? I know they need to place people in certain areas but just curious as to whether they take people's situations onboard given that the age limit has been raised, more people in a similar situation to me would be applying.

I know some people have got offers already, but usually it's 6 weeks after the most intake starts the offers come thick and fast

My references were contacted around 2/3 weeks ago but still no word

    When was station interview?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭Paddy 42

Who told you that lad offers are sent out roughly 6 weeks after each intake has started?

Only thing that seems certain, judging from people posting on the forum, is that there is no certainty and its different for everyone based on individual circumstances.
