"Squatters". He's clearly been told not to mention the name they are referred to as in Ireland. This is a well known scam by a certain community who get details of Irish owned properties from their relatives back in Ireland and then hold them to ransom until they get €8k

It's been going on for a few years. I first heard about this sort of thing years ago. A lad I know had a place in Allicante. Out of the blue he got a phone call to say a family of "squatters" had moved in and if he wanted it back he had to pay €8k in cash. The police there advised him to just pay them of as it was a common issue and they couldn't do anything as anyone they had pressed charges against just fled Spain and went back to Ireland. He eventually made a deal for €6k in cash, met a guy in a van in a Tesco carpark in Limerick and a couple of days later the family in Spain moved out.
