Looks like a done deal based on reporting today.

Only positive I can see is we start early negotiations with Trabzonspor this summer to take him on Loan for no fee and covering 60% of his salary next summer.

We desperately needed Anderson/Tchouameni and M.Fernandes but now really fear we’ll end up with Baleba and Ederson. You’d think we’d learn from Caicedo/Rice vs Ugarte, Van De Beek, Fred etc. but here we go again.

There you have it. No way he'll play for us again. This will be done before the world cup starts.

Wouldn't call it a red flag that he wasn't picked for Brazil. Players like Lewis Hall or Mateus Fernandes weren't selected for their countries.

They've only selected 5 CMs. Bruno Guimarães and Casemiro are nailed on starters. Paquetá was always going to go. Danilo has been impressive since returning to Brazil and I think there's been links to him. Fabinho is probably third choice DM.

I think we will see a fair bit of rotation and maybe even some youth on Sunday. I don't think Sesko is back and with Casemiro & Malacia both bidding fairwell last weekend there will be at least 2 places in the squad freed up. Bruno will obviously want to start but apart from that we might see some rotation I feel.

I am perfectly fine with them avoiding the shiny toys and going instead with players that they think will work out.

We don't desperately need Anderson, he is just a footballer. And if we can get 3 good players for the price of him then thats what we should be doing.

If the club identifies the wrong players then they will get the criticism for that, for making bad judgements. But I certainly have no problem with the club looking outside the back pages for their targets.

I think people were always going to be disappointed because some of the names being mentioned as we must sign two of these would likely want to be starters at Man United.

And I see it more as one signing will come in to partner Mainoo, one will come in as someone who can step in for either starter (likely Ederson), and then they'll sign a third cheap midfielder if Ugarte leaves who won't mind being just a squad player.

I’d be on board if the club had any recent history of unearthing undervalued players and turning them into stars. In reality it’s the complete opposite of cheaping out on the can’t miss talents (Caicedo & Rice) and repeatedly blowing £30m-£60m on players who make no impact.

A 27 year old midfielder who’s highest ever level is mid table in serie A (the league where McTominay got into Balon d’or contention) & 3 international caps with no top club looking at him for €50m. You’d have to take a big leap of faith to think he’ll move the dial

Nothing is certain of course, but I would be extremely confident in 5 years we’ll look back and say Anderson for £100m was great value for City as he is a stallworth in a title winning team for a decade and Ederson will be back in Italy or turkey and we’ll still be looking for a CM.

Perhpas but the other most solid link thus far is Baleba. Baleba and Mainoo with Ederson and Ugarte as back up is not serious for a team with ambition to establish as a top PL side again. Mainoo is the young project. He needs a legitimate heavyweight CM beside him (which we haven’t had in a very long time) IMO.

If Ederson is out alternative to Anderson then yeah, i'd have a big issue.

i just hope that isn't the case

I hope we are signing 3 midfielders, and Ederson is the least of them.

But history would suggest to prepare for a worse outcome, and we only sign two… and ederson is the better of them.

Absolutely agree with that… I mean saying Anderson is just a footballer is a bit silly… like some footballers are an awful lot better than others. And I would say Anderson is as close as you’re going to get to a sure thing from what’s available on the transfer market right now.

We already have a player better than Ederson and we are looking to get rid of him. Crazy if he is one of our choices

we've been linked with ederson the last ~3/4 summers. i dunno, its a bit meh.

go find the lammens of CM's - though maybe that will be the 3rd CM signing and ederson will be the #2.

    from ben jacobs.

Talks are progressing between Manchester United and Atalanta for Ederson and progress has been made.

No formal offer as of Friday morning but that could change relatively quickly.

Ederson and #MUFC have discussed terms over a five-year contract.

I think Ederdson is better than people are giving him credit for - i think there is a lazy view of him being another shin kicker like Ugarte has been for us. I don't think he is. But I also don't think he is a game changer of a signing. I think he could be a very good squad player. So, imo, if we are signing him I would judge the signing at the end of the summer when we can see what else we have or have not done in midfield.

And if your argument is we need better than squad player signings…. yes I agree. which is why i would judge it at the end of the summer. Right now we have Kobbie, and Urgarte who we seem to want to sell. We absolutely need a squad player signing this summer. If Ederson is that player, I think it is a fantastic signing for that role

The fee's being spoken about today for him would annoy me though, considering 1 year left on the contract and his club obviously want to cash in rather than let him leaave for free.

which would be insane, imo. Being generous I would say Casemiro, but I think while Casemiro is better in the boxes, I think Ederson is better between them.

i also think the price of £35 + 5m with 1 year left is too much to pay.

Tonali is the best midfielder we can realistically get. Premier league proven. Elliot Anderson Isn’t going to happen, he is city bound.

Didn't he say when he got his Barca loan move that he wouldn't be making any negative comments about Utd!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭MercuryBoy

It's gonna be Ederson, Baleba and one of those Championship lads for midfield. That'll be about 130million and the rest will go on a 30 million left back and a 20 million striker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,200 ✭✭✭Robson99

Tonali and M Fernandes would be great if they can be got

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

You need a heavyweight that's willing to join unfortunately. Can't see Tchouameni leaving Madrid, Anderson is likely City bound and not sure who else is being linked whether seriously or click bait bar Tonali.

Tonali is likely the best bet as he wants out of Newcastle but negotiating with Newcastle will be tough. Google says with a 12 month option Newcastle have him tied down till 2030. Then you factor in how much he'll want per week.

If it's a players from Newcastle I'd love Guimarães and Ederson can be third choice (but for more like half of what Atalanta are asking for) and find a Lammens type signing as 4th choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭DataDude

    Agree with all of that.

Find it pretty depressing we can’t compete with city for a young English talent the year pep leaves and we have CL but perhaps that’s just who we are now.

    I’d live with:

    Tier 1: Tonali/Bruno G

Tier 2: M. Fernandes (biggest no brainer for me)

    Tier 3/4: Ederson/Baleba

If we end up with Ederson and Baleba as our only signings. We’re in a mid table scrap again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Only God knows what City are offering and how well they'll hide it to make it seem like he's not being paid a king's ransom.

Do you mean tier 1 and 2 as sign these two and tier 3/4 can be the third signing.

We had been linked with Wharton quiet a bit last year had we not?! That seems to have died down? 🤔 Has he indicated that he's heading somewhere else or wha..?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,513 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

as i see it we are concentrating on players that can play with Mainoo, and they don't think Wharton and Mainoo are a great fit - too similar.

Not to say Mainoo is a certain starter, but silly to spend big money on a CM that doesn't fit with him

Wharton links have probably died down because we're not selling Mainoo. Wharton and Mainoo would be a poor midfield duo imo.
