The probable Bordeaux team has been named already in the French media. That's just the way the world is these days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,374 ✭✭✭bingobango12

Yeah I don’t think it has any baring at all to the actual game. Just don’t like how it’s come out before the teams are named for what’s such a huge game. As you said the way of the world.

Highly unlikely Bordeaux have not covered all potential Leinster options in their prep. Not a big deal, both sides will have done reams of analysis on each other looking for chinks in the armour. It is very hard to win 2 in a row, we might have an edge.

The forecast has been bonkers. Went from 27C and sunny a week ago, to 20C and raining the other day, to 32C and sunny spells yesterday. My phone is currently predicting 30C and sunny, but who knows what we'll actually get on Saturday. Obviously the cooler the better for the squad. I feel like I need a pair of those naff zip-off pants-to-shorts yokes cause it's going to be pretty cool here at 5am when we're leaving the house but I really don't want to have to change.

God love Ulster, though, cause Friday has been consistently in the mid-30s for the past two weeks.

Seemingly Leinster travelled in two groups so if you were in the airport you would be able to work out who is in the match day 23 and who isnt

The ST QF game was One of the best games I have ever seen, end to end stuff, the Leinster backs were incredible that day and Cameron Jowitt!!!!

I think its fairly accurate, Munster looking backwards to 20 years ago, always a habit of looking back - the ABs win for example. And here Leinster are looking forward and preparing for yet another Euro Final. Leinster have been incredibly consistent for the last 17 years now, year on year.

Munster really missed an opportunity to really kick on after 06/08. Put in proper foundations and build for the future. Instead we pissed it all away with inept corporate management, bad governance and a failure to invest properly in grassroots and foundations. While blaming all and everyone for our woes.

Anyway best of Luck to Leinster, ye have a great chance this weekend. I think Bordeaux are one of the weakest finalist ye have faced since 2012. I hope ye do it, from a Munster fan.

    I feel sick.

I was actually at that 2006 QF, went over to enjoy the weekend expecting absolutely nothing. Losing yet another final though will be heartbreaking.

If TOB is fit and Rieko is selected on the other wing then i can see a bench with McGrath, Frawley and Lowe. Enough options covered there. JOB can justifiably feel hard done by if he misses out. Although someone said Lowe travelled seperately from the team to Bilboa

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 11,096 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

I'd be shocked if Osbourne isn't on the bench and Lowe is.

I kind of would too, in that's how I expect them to select it, but I'd personally go for Lowe over Osborne. I think he's just a better rugby player, with more scope to change and influence the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 badgerobitty

Might Lowe not be a surprise starter? Big game player with proven pedigree and our kicking game is going to be very important. You'd prefer someone with more pace, especially given the opponents, but I would give it a better chance than most. Let's see! 😁

Best of Luck to Leinster tomorrow, I really hope that this is the year, provincial rivalry goes out the window for me when it comes to an Irish team in a final.I think being in the shake up year after year is the real success and exactly what all the rest of us aspire to for our provinces. Fingers crossed for you all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭FtD v2

I'd be hugely surprised tbh, if TOB is healthy (and the reports suggest he is), then I expect our starting wingers to be Rieko and TOB.

Delighted Tom Clarkson has gotten the nod as well, he 100% deserves it.

Can’t really have any complaints with that team.

Very strong Leinster team and bench. That's a serious front row replacement to come on. Mad that Lowe is not in the 23. Just bad timing for him.

Target Penaud at 13 defensively surely? I'd be looking to exploit that all day. Make him work.

I'm strangely relaxed about it. Nothing can hurt as much as the one in the Aviva to La Rochelle so feels like a free roll a bit for me this one.

I don't like having Osborne in the 23 shirt, especially in the context of having had concerns about one of our wingers in the lead up to the game. Would have preferred to see JOB or Lowe there, but apart from that it's a really strong selection.

Feel a bit sorry for Jerry Cahir, after his incredible season for us, but hopefully a winner's medal will be his consolation.

Of all the names on the Bordeaux squad, illogically the name that struck the most fear in me was that goddamned Arthur Retiere.

A bit surprised Deegan made the bench, would've gone for Soroka or Culhane. Will this be the final that Cullen finally brings McGrath off the bench?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,087 ✭✭✭Former Former Former

I feel very sorry for Lowe, especially if this is the year we get over the hump and he's not there, but Ioane is definitely the right call.

Think Clarkson is the right call too.

I presume Deeney is injured, would expect Ryan and McCarthy to go the full 80 if they can.

Forecast is 27 degrees in Bilbao tomorrow so going to be a lot of tired bodies and gaps opening up as the game wears on, and that will favour them more than us.

Great team, they will give everything they have and more. C'mon Leinster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,988 ✭✭✭ionadnapóca

Im bitterly disappointed. They've just gone and shot themselves in the foot.

Lost all faith in Cullen to pick the right team.

No Lowe or JOB is bizarre. Not starting Osborne. Also means no left footed kicking option starting.

& I still think ditching your back-up outhalf at this stage of the season is nothing other than mismanagement.

Paddy McCarthy, 0 minutes in 4 months is a huge risk and unnecessary. Harsh on Cahir.

The team that could have been picked:

Hugo Keenan; Tommy O’Brien, Garry Ringrose, Jamie Osborne, James Lowe or JOB; Harry Byrne, Jamison Gibson-Park; Andrew Porter, Dan Sheehan, Thomas Clarkson; Joe McCarthy, James Ryan; Jack Conan, Josh van der Flier, Caelan Doris (capt).

Replacements: Rónan Kelleher, Jerry Cahir, Tadgh Furlong, Diarmuid Mangan, Max Deegan, Luke McGrath, Sam Prendergast, Jimmy O'Brien or Ciaran Frawaley or Robbie Henshaw.

Do think Osborne at 12 and one of JOB or Lowe would be a better choice, but the team is what it is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,327 ✭✭✭TRC10

The fact that the game is in a football stadium on a tiny pitch is one thing that could really benefit Leinster. They have a stronger pack on paper, and there’ll be less space for Bordeaux’s back line to move. Neinabaars blitz defence could be really effective here. If they can make it an ugly, claustrophobic penalty shootout, they have a real chance.

Brilliant point. Is it definitely 68m? I know its UEFA measurements but is the space not there to go to 70m?

The pitch did look/feel tight in '18 now that you say it
