I'm not Maguires biggest fan but I feel very sorry for him missing out on world cup . Right to feel gutted

cas wont be playing this weekend.

Michael Carrick: “We decided that last week would be Casemiro's last game, I think that went as well as we all could have hoped. He’s been fantastic”.

“It felt like the right time”.

I agree… I’m not a fan of Mateta at all and would definitely choose Nunez over him in that scenario.

I think that’s a massive mistake from England. I thought he would have been a shoe in. Even if he’s not nailed on to start, he’d be next in line for a replacement, or drop in from with one of the others. Big mistake IMO.

I think its a mistake now, and I'm pretty sure that I will think it is an even bigger mistake after I see the final squad.

I'm going to be patriotic here and say Troy Parrot

Have to say I’m happy to hear both Maguire and Shaw haven’t made the cut, both are at an age profile where a proper Summer’s rest will hopefully pay off in spades with their freshness for Utd next Season!🤞🙏👏

Yes I'm half pleased in that way neither player has been selected. But I think Tuchel could be the manager to finally win something with England and would be a shame for Maguire to miss out given the stick he's taken over the years.

The England team could consist of all United players and I would still not be able to stomach them winning a World Cup.

Agreed a mutual termination. He was basically benched when Benzema joined due to limits on foreign players. That's not me saying I want him, not a hope anyway id say.

I thought Maguire's statement sounded very entitled. He's had an ok season after some difficult times but he was by no means a shoe in for the squad.

Can't blame him for being pissed when Stones looks like being named in the squad, in fairness .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,288 ✭✭✭jayo44

I agree. He has done well but it's a very maguire type statement. Same as back in teh day when he was paying muck but claimed because he was been picked by club and international manager everyone was wrong.

It's doesn't read that way to me. He's had a very solid season and popped up with some big goals. When you are getting dropped for Dan Burn and Quansah then i think you can feel a bit hard done by in fairness to him. Add in Stones who hasn't had a good season by any stretch of the imagination and i do have some sympathy for him.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

I know he’s a bit of a cult favourite but the players selected ahead of him show the level he’s at. While he could easily have gone, it’s not a massive shock to me that he isn’t going. He seems a good pro and worked his way back from a bit of adversity and all that but in fairness he has serious limitations as a player.

Whatever about Maguire feeling aggrieved, I'm amazed the media treat Shaw not being picked as a news item.

Maybe Tuchel actually watched him play and realised he's slow and rubbish.

Maguire plays best when the team is under the kosh or parks the bus and he has players close to him. Looks impressive at times at United, but obviously not what Tuchel is looking for as Stone is a very different type of player.

The one thing that seems to be coming out from the England team selection, is that Tuchel is very much his own man and doesnt get influenced by public opinion or the media. The media generally dont like managers like that. I admire Tuchel that he is picking the team on his own terms but you just know, if they dont start well, the media will bring up his team selection as a noose to hang him with.

I used to think that about Tuchel, that he was strong enough to have an opinion and stick by it.

Now I can't shake the thought that he is actually doing a Pep, by overthinking things and going with left field options for the wrong reasons and at the wrong times. The "too smart for his own good" thing. He wants his choices as manager to be the reason for winning, not just the best players going out and doing well.

Sometimes the right choices are the simple and obvious ones.

You can make the same argument about nearly every player he's selected ahead of Maguire as well. Listen, he's not an elite defender but in terms of box defending he's definitely better than those selected ahead of him. I think his passing has improved this season, doesn't slow the ball down as much.

I think Englands problem is that they keeps getting unbelievably easy qualifying groups so are never tested until the tournament. Anyway, I'll be delighted when they get knocked out and the inevitable shįtstorm happens. Plus, Maguire can do a full preseason now and we'll need him.

They better back him or we'll be back to square 1 by Christmas.

Again, I actively don't want to see England do well. The more Tuchel ignores what's best for the squad, the happier I'll be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,420 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

I think they will back him. Both in terms of trying to deliver a better overall playing squad but also time. Amorim was getting more time until he threw the towel in.

I just wish Tuchel had told them they're less likely to be called up as replacements if go blubbering on social media.

Carrick confirmed, Pep confirmed leaving, Rashford slagging off United on IG. It's all happening this morning.

Only one i feel sorry for here is Shaw, his usual stunt of staying fit prior to Englad playing in a major tournament has backfired spectacularly. All the Xbox games he missed playing

And yet you will still have people defending Rashford.

    Good riddance to him.

Seeing more and more links to Ederson. Of all the options we are in for he'd be bottom of my list. Admittedly, I haven't seen a whole lot of him but just not sure he's the profile we want.

The fact he wasn't selected for Brazil is surely a red flag?
