In the hope that Soldier Boy would turn, Sage planted the video of Homelander and Storm Front. It looked like it was working until Soldier Boy had a change of heart at the end.

Only catching up now, binging now near the end - great Supernatural reunion! Wasn't expecting Castiel as well. Damn I miss that show

Paul Reiser would have been a great addition from the start. Excellent character.

Alright episode but don't have much faith in how they are going to tie up everything with the finale next week

Yeah, have a feeling the finale will end up a pretty lacklustre affair. A lot of story strands to be tied up which at this stage will probably just be characters killed off as opposed to actually bringing their story to a close.

The parts with The Deep were great and nice to see the characters from Gen V show up, but putting Soldier Boy back in the fridge feels like a missed opportunity, especially after we saw Homelander get souped up with V1 last week and he just takes SB out with a chokehold which was laughably bland. Maybe MM releases him next week (which would help close up MM's story), but even then I barely care at this point. Looking forward to the show just ending.

    Frenchie No!

It was a pretty good episode overall, but they've definitely made some missteps in the middle part of the season.

    Well, that was underwhelming.

Yeah, it's what I expected in a way but the acting generally saves this show for me, which separates it from being another GoT level disaster in my book.

So whats the future of this 'universe', feel without Butcher, Frenchie, homelander it won't be the same

Thought they'd show Homelanders tomb/funeral/ashes etc

Underwhelming and pretty standard fare, but that's no real bad thing either. It ended the only real way it could, and at the very least it didn't try to pull off some last big twist for the sake of it.

That said, they basically had no other option but to end it that way given how the rest of the season was written, and it being so basic meant they also didn't give time/opportunity to close off characters' stories. No resolution to MM's hatred of Soldier Boy. Starlight didn't mention how the Deep assaulted her when she joined the Seven. Ashley just isn't President any more. Edgar is in charge of Vought again which ultimately means Butcher was right; there could easily be another Homelander further down the line. And worst of all, Soldier Boy is just frozen in a big tube in Vought Tower. Absolutely no resolution to any of that.

It could have been a lot worse, but they spent so much effort throughout the season on Soldier Boy which amounted to nothing but setting up the Vought Rising spin-off, didn't bother utilising the Gen V characters despite that show clearly setting up Marie as being powerful enough to kill Homelander, and Homelander himself did almost nothing the entire season other than whinge.

Could have been better, could have been worse. Either way, glad it's over and don't think I'll bother with any future spin-offs.

    I'm just happy it's finished!

I hate watched the last season as I needed to see how it ended.

I thought it was as good as it could have been (given the 7 episodes leading up to it). You could tell there were budget restrictions, but they did well with what they had.

However, nerds saying it was as bad as GoT are deluded. It was nowhere near as bad as that.

Loved the scene with Kimiko/Frenchie, and the final Butcher/Hughie scene was surprisingly touching.

    Good sh*t.

Was a grand watch, nothing special.

Underwhelming and a bit flat. Really expected more surprise. I found the entire season the same though.

A poor ending to a poor season - like the rest of you in just glad it’s over!

I was hoping that we’d see Homelander go fully unleashed against the general population but he only kills 1 person in the finale off screen!

The V1 plot ended up being totally redundant, just something to do before the end. The Deep/Oh Fathers deaths were funny but made zero sense - why would Starlight decide to fight the deep on the beach? How could MM hold in the gag? Anyway, I suppose it’s best to not think too much about it as the writers clearly didn’t.

Homelanders death was good but just too quick. It would have been interesting to see the full horror of not being all powerful - but we just get a dick/shít joke and then he dies. It’s in keeping with the dialog this season I guess.

Would have loved to see it end with an almost endgame like battle of every major supe trying to stop Homelanders rampage with Soldier Boy eventually depowering him(along with the rest of the surviving supes in the battle), and for Butcher to get killed while succeeding to release the virus. But hey, no chance of a spin off then!

Anyway I’m done with the Boys. Like many other big shows that ended poorly, can’t imagine bothering with spinoffs or rewatching it.

That's my thoughts. I think people are overreacting saying it's comparable to Game of Thrones final season. Yeah it's clear they ran out of ideas, there's only so much depth to say Homelander or Butchers characters. Final season was grand, overall a good series and an interesting take on the superhero theme.

Yeah unfortunately they just went with the easiest, simplest resolutions to everything. The V1 made Homelander effectively immortal, but if anything his powers seemed weaker (his laser blast previously cut Kimiko in half but just knocked her around here), then his powers were just removed anyway (by Kimiko who had to gain the ability to do it rather than his father, Soldier Boy, who already had it and had an existing relationship with Homelander which could have been used as a plot point instead of throwing him back in a fridge). Ashley made the ball gag so strong based on Oh Father's powers, but it instantly killed him when he used his powers as MM put it on him… Was Ashley trying to kill him? - Don't worry about it! Starlight doesn't just fight Deep on the beach, but also knocks him into the water where he can swim at superspeed and where he can almost control ocean-life, all without knowing that it would be the thing which killed him as she didn't know ocean-life wanted him dead. She basically just accidentally killed him even though he sexually assaulted her back in Season 1, so no catharsis for that.

Again, I don't mind the ending as such (other than the below) because it wasn't egregiously bad; just a bit lazy, simple and bland. But so many things left unresolved or so simplified that really could have been planned out better.

I also still can't quite understand the fact that Stan Edgar is allowed to lead Vought again and supes are still around, which as Butcher said means some day there'll probably be another Homelander (especially given that while HL was pretty much the worst and most powerful, the show clearly made a point about how with bad leadership and so much hero worship, many people with powers become so arrogant, dangerous and vile). At the very least it surely would have made more sense for Hughie and Starlight to become part of Vought and they be in charge of the supe side of things, maybe starting a new Seven with Starlight in charge and some of the characters from Gen V. Actually try to prevent the next Homelander as opposed to hoping it never happens. However, I guess they're probably leaving it open for future spin-offs (not just the Vought Rising prequel), so this was a way to write Hughie & Starlight out of the story.

The weakest season of the show but not it a terrible way. Without pulling some big twist where Homelander wins or The Deep becomes president or Sage succeeds in wiping out most of life on the planet, it was always heading the way it did so of course it's going to feel a bit underwhelming. As far as I'm concerned, they stuck the landing. A solid end that doesn't ruin what had gone before. It was satisfying too seeing Homelander finally defenseless and reduced to nothing. The biggest miss for me was, as said above, the Starlight/Deep showdown going out with a whimper (though I did like that the sealife got their justice). I get they probably wanted the original gang to be the ones to take down Homelander but it felt wrong how they wrote Soldier Boy out of the end. The final character wrap up was nicely done, especially Kimiko in France.

The wider failings of the season as a whole though are what bring it all down from the epic highs it had. The whole virus plot just never worked for me, primarily because it kills almost instantly and non-supes don't carry it, so how was it ever supposed to spread worldwide. It made no sense. In terms of the characters, I think they pushed Butcher and Homelander to extremes that they just became parodies of themselves. Butcher just became irredeemably unlikable and predictable. While with Homelander it's like they stripped away his menace and just left the super powered man-child that wants everyone to love him. Starlight also became increasingly unbearable… whether it's whatever the actress did to her face that he can't emote/act any more or just that the only thing the writers could think to do with her dialog is add the word "dick" into every second sentence.

Anyway, lots I'm sure I could pick at from this season but overall it was still very enjoyable and it gave a satisfying, if predictable, end.

The last couple of seasons have been disappointing, compared to what came before. It was still very watchable, but nothing special. The previous season felt like a bit of a faff. And after what they did with season, I think it really should have finished earlier.

Marie Moreau was meant to be powerful enough to rival Homelander. But it was probably decided to downplay what happened in Gen Z as much as possible, as the viewing figures were less than half of what The Boys got. Was there really a reason to keep The Deep around for so long? He didn't do much, other than be an odious, moronic prick.

I doubt I'll watch the other thing they have coming, after the way this went and how they treated Gen V, in the end. The couple of seasons of the latter was probably better than the last couple of seasons of The Boys.

Well that ending was incredibly underwhelming. But TBH the show never lived up to the promise of the first series really, and the last two were pretty meh over all.

At least they're not dragging it out to another one, two or three series and had the sense to call it a day.

    Is homelander actually dead ?

    He is a god

A disappointing ending and last season. For a relatively short show in terms of episodes its amazing how quickly it became mediocre.

Thought Maeve would return for the finale but I guess she had no powers so wouldn't have done much.

Seeing Homelander grovel was hilarious end to the character.

He lost all his powers and his brain was opened like a can of baked beans all over the table, you think he faked not being able to fly?

I tapped out id way through last season.

I never got into the books. Did the ending mirror what it was in the comics?

Dead, whether it makes sense or not in universe.

Starr isn't sticking around for anything more, given he's on record with disagreeing with Kripke on the character.

Saw something that Kripke discussed a Maeve cameo at some point in Season 5 but the actress has mostly retired from acting and their proposed scheduling wasn't going to work out for her, so she passed on it. Quick look at her wikipedia page shows nothing after 2022, so it's probably true.
