its been long speculated pep could be going, you;d have to think him and his agent would be aware of there being a very good chance Pep was leaving this summer.

    but, hope springs…

Never even thought about the Anderson situation....

    Muppet mode engaged!!

Sesko's handball was inconclusive. If he did touch it, the ball didn't change direction. Mbuemo's was a nailed on handball but if the ref is allowed to call it accidental under current rules then he's able to call it for every team. It'll be interesting if we ever see an incident like it again, my guess is that the PGMOL will want consistency among their members and staff, so probably not.

I think he'll still go to City irrespective of Pep leaving. We'll end up signing Baleba:(

I think the Baleba deal is already done, he was tweeting some stuff about good things happen when you wait.

Not the worst deal if its under 50m

Can't see Baleba and Anderson being signed. If Baleba is signed i can see it being a signing to partner Mainoo in midfield.

PGMOL and consistency did give me a.good laugh there, cheers.

We've already seen an incident like it this season. Georginio Rutter scored an injury time equaliser for Brighton against West Ham back in December having handled the ball in the build up. Because it wasn't Man United, the BBC reported it reasonably calmly and the ref was defended for the decision.

The video assistant referee (VAR) checked whether Rutter handled the ball before finishing - but the goal was allowed to stand.

The Premier League Match Centre said: "The referee's call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR - with it deemed that Rutter's arm was in a natural position and he did not deliberately handle the ball, and the contact with the arm was not immediately prior to him scoring."

The referee's decision regarding Mbeumo is even stronger than that to allow the goal to stand. Not only was Mbeumo's arm in a natural position and the contact non-deliberate, Mbeumo did not even score the goal that followed. Rutter handled the ball and scored the goal that resulted from the handball. The ref is being thrown under the bus by the PGMOL despite being consistent to the same rule that allowed Rutter's goal to stand a few months ago.

Maybe he wants stability- United will have probably the 10th longest serving manager in the PL by the time the transfer window opens. We scream stability now, should be an easy decision for him to join us /s/

Why would Baleba be a good option for Man Utd (for 50m quid) when he's not even an automatic starter for the Brighton team ?

He was excluded from the last Cameroon squad.

    What am I missing here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,753 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

He's not a good option imo but Wilcox may see the contrary.

Not even consistent in the same match, as we saw in Bournemouth.

I think you're all in for disappointment

I feel he is "50m CM" that gets quoted, Tchoumeni or Anderson will be the expensive option.

The only thing VAR et al has done is move where the bad decisions are made and have them take 10 times longer to make. It has been absolutely shocking for the game.

    Offsides yes

    Goal line tech, yes.

Anything else needs to be left in the context of the game and subject to the referee on the day.

Absolutely this. But I'd even question the offside - not been consistent either, and there are still subjective elements to the laws.

If they keep VAR, no slow mo's or freeze frames allowed - real time only. If it needs superslow mo it isn't clear and obvious.

there are still subjective elements to the laws.

There has to be, otherwise any time a ball touches a hand/arm it's handball and the subsequent disallowed goal or penalty awarded, no matter the circumstance.

I think people will be in for more disappointment when it's likely him and Ederson that are the two main CM signings.

What's hilarious is that Webb actually said there were justifiable reasons as to why it wasn't given as handball and then goes on to say it would have been expected to be disallowed. It's almost like he's reacting to the media backlash because Utd got a favourable decision rather than anything else.

I see Éderson isn't in the Brazil squad, could be a positive if he does sign

I don't know enough about Ederson to neither say hes the answer to all our problems or that he will be total shite. However I find it insane that lads are seemingly setting themselves up to be pissed off at the club signing an actual real DM. All I know is that for the past 3 or so years hes been very highly rated and talked about. In theory he sounds like a player that will be able to enable Mainoo + An Other to play higher up which I assume is what we all want

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,599 ✭✭✭fatherted1969

I know VAR is a melter but I'd still rather it instead of no VAR, the alternative of totally relying on the on field ref to make the correct decision is a lot harder to take. I was over for the FA cup game last year where there was no VAR and Maguire scored a late winner while being well offside. I'd like to see it remain in place but just better is all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,753 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

The problem is his form this season has been disappointing. If its because he was sulking and laid down tools over missing out on a move to United well that's worrying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I've only seen Ederson in European games and he looks decent, especially when they won the Europa League final.

If Athletico Madrid wanted him too he can't be too bad 😅

Bring back UEFAs umpires I say.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭BenK

100% about the slow mo's and freeze frames. There should even be a limit I think to the number of replays allowed to be shown. It's taking far too much time to assess even obvious decisions at times. Football should not be stop start like rugby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,264 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

My greatest fear is no new midfielder arrives. Like last summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,860 ✭✭✭SteM

There's no way we'll loose Casemiro and not buy a midfielder.

Keane misquoting Bruno to have a rant about him only caring about assists. Think that’s the end of the overlap for me, but I will miss the segments in Neville promoting Huel by saying he wished he had protein in the 90s
