Tickets available Tommorow on Ticketmaster lads, think it’s 12, Midday.. not 100 percent on that…

14,500 in January 2004 when they played Meath but health and safety put pay to that

Anyone there in 2001 for an epic Cavan performance against the Rossies in a league semi final? That was definitely more than that. Mighty outing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭mogue77

I was there ! It was some match, one of the best Cavan games, I remember someone from Roscommon laughing about Michael brides physical size and saying was the Cavan i16s playing when the team came out they were fairly impressed with him after.

That game was 2002 I thought and yes Cusack Park was packed and definitely over 11,500 at it but think like another poster said they have reduced the capacity since, health and safety yada yada. We scored 5 goals against the Rossies, not sure have we scored that many in a game since! Unfortunately followed up by one of our worst performances ever in the final against Tyrone, took us half an hour to score and was out the gate of Clones with over 10 minutes to go in the game.

Yeah 2002. God the final against Tyrone was some come down. It was sunshine and vibrant football in Mullingar, it was torrential rain and being bet out the gate by Tyrone. Canavan was majestic that day.

Sold out in 5 minutes ffs there be feck all from Cavan at it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭baconsarnie

Yeah those of us who got tickets are 100% going to be in a minority. They're normally poorly supported but goes to show you that success brings in fans.

Expected good demand but selling out in 5 minutes is fast! Believe they had held off for some sales at the pitch and locally in the stores but they have no doubt gone now too. Any fair weather fans from Westmeath who seen the scenes in Mullingar on Sunday after the win no doubt wanting in and esp as bank holiday weekend too. As it turns out away that weekend but will be a great atmosphere with a full stadium, hopefully Cavan bring them back down to earth.

it’s being moved to tullamore! Word from Mullingar county board tonight

Really? That would be great. They (Westmeath) might as well make hay when the sun shines and get as many people behind the team as possible. Sure Breffni is even bigger than Tullamore, we could be nice and accommodate them….

Have to completely disagree with you here. 12pm is a mad time for a game for what is one of the longest trips in the province. Getting 16 year olds up at 6am, trying to carb load them, on the bus for over 2 hours, get there in time for sufficient warm-up etc is not right. I was at the match. Clear the lads were off it 1st half, but came rightly back into it 2nd half where they were way better but kept getting suckered when they had to all out attack. The travel absolutely had an effect that early

Shouldn't have to be a case that they get a hotel or staying over. Literally no need when they could instead set the match for 2pm. Crazy you'd even say that when we already have rising costs in GAA. Like look at the semis this weekend. Omagh not as bad a trip, but still a trip. 12pm again. Meanwhile neighbouring counties Donegal and Derry is on at 2pm for shorter journey. This is literally just stupid stuff from Ulster and not good to be doing this to young lads. Both these times should be reversed

That was a class game alright. Some amount of early goals and just remember it being a savage day of football. Remember a hurling game before it too, and no sufficient nets behind the goals meaning lots of people got hit with sliothars. Saw one fella leaving with blood pouring from his head

Got sorted yesterday for tickets, but was a bit of a shambles from Ticketmaster. Wasn't a 5 minute sell-out, was still some available half an hour after. Just was a case of only adult tickets. if anyone selected Student/OAP or Juvenile they said no tickets at all, but was a way to select 2 x adult a few times etc and get sorted

Don't see anything about this. Something about them not moving from Mullingar though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Cavan county board paid for an overnight stay in a Cavan hotel for the senior team and mentors for a home game last year. In that cost environment, I don’t see the issue with our minors staying overnight in Derry before a championship game and early throw in.

What was the hotel? Did Cavan win that match?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Home game vs Donegal which iirc was a record loss. They stayed in Farnham Estate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭Blue47

Was that not the time some business person paid for them to stay?

In this day and age the GAA and ticketmaster should be looking at previous attendance for games like this. I know a few lads who would miss very games league and championship who will be sitting at home due to bandwagon supporters. I'd say theres quite a few Westmeath fans feeling the same.

And does not make it right, or meaning we have to for a minor game when a better time is available that day. It's madness really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭baconsarnie

There's very few Cavan bandwagon supporters at the moment sadly!! Westmeath traditionally had very poor support. Coming off their win in the Tailteann Cavan easily outnumbered them in Mullingar in the league. I was talking to a few Westmeath lads beforehand and they were scathing about the lack of support. So if they can build something based on wins, good attacking football and a charismatic media friendly coach, it might be worth exploring in other counties….

Bandwagoner here, herself went and bought three tickets for us and the eldest. I'm down the club coaching the tots though, do I get a pass for that?

I'd rather watch paint dry though.

First they came for the socialists...

The same bandwagoners who took the corn from our mouths!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Did they? I never heard that. Even if they did, there’s a lot better uses for the funds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Anyone else finding WAC’s opinion on the minors inconsistent? A couple of weeks ago O’Hanlon was making the most of a limited bunch of players and they had no stand out players like Bradley from Derry. Personally, I would agree with the first part but not the second - they aren’t as good as last year’s team as a whole but have better individuals.

After a comfortable win, albeit it against a team they described as “unfit” and “poor”, on the latest edition all is very positive again.

Tyrone & Cavan very cagey at the minute. 5 points to 4 at HT. Jake Brady with a 2 pointer for Cavan prior to HT. Tyrone do seem to be getting through our defence a bit easier, had a half goal chance just before the whistle that their player fortunately put over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭large_palette

Our minors are a dread to watch. The TG4 commentator is losing his mind. 0-01 to 0-01 after 19+ minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭cavan4sam

Christ they are a different team 2nd half hopefully they can keep turning the screw now .
