Didn't think the Keane book today sounded great.

I'm a big fan of Dave Hannigan but given he's been away for so long I'm not sure he's bed placed to comment on what Ireland has become.

I read it and thought it was decent

I spent the whole Gazza story waiting for someone, anyone, to correct Gary Parker to Charles.

Fanning (Brendan this time) is so dour on every podcast it makes me never want to pick up a book or article he’s written. Gerry might get overexcited half the time but at least it seems like he has a bit of grà for the bloody sport he’s covering.

Poor Shay is having a Eoin-facilitated meltdown trying to get Kenny to admit Arsenal are good defensively

Ray Cuddihy playing 'The Look You Give That Guy' by Eels on Late Date, I'm half expecting to hear Gilesy put Ken in his place.

You couldn’t pay me enough money to listen to a podcast about some random dead golfer one of the staffers had a hard on for

They missed Valverde Bowl completely with this stuff

Gavin Cooney leaving The42. Anyone know what his plans are?

Jesus I'm shocked he's brilliant I presume he's being snapped up by a "bigger" outfit.

I enjoyed Nick Ames respectfully, but completely disagreeing with Ken about VAR. I side with him on this and Ken definitely goes on about way, way, too much.

Dara Ó Cinnéide is a beautiful human being. I seem to be in the minority but I like Paul Flynn's analysis , he just needs someone alongside him doing the coverage. Dara is a great addition

I assume it will make no difference to his Second Captains appearances, anyways. He's a good journo but his actual depth of knowledge of any given sport tends to be masked by the breadth of sports he covers.

Him bouncing between trying to flay the GAA/Ireland for getting the Steelers game, tennis, golf and football where he's usually talking with actual expert beat journalists like they're on equal footing can be whiplash-inducing at times.

long story short: a goal was correctly ruled out by var that probably would have stood without var. the referee and the var officials made the correct decision in the correct way in very pressurized circumstances

Interesting that he is not able to say - best of luck to him, I agree, really enjoy his contribution to the pod and his writing style, his reporting from the last world cup in particular was excellent

I like Gav as contributor. Interested to see where he ends up next. I wonder will he be focusing on one sport at a bigger publication. Was suprised that he didn't know off hand how many majors Scheffler currently has, guess that's the risk of being spread across many topics.

It depends where’s he’s going I would have thought. I don’t think Ruaidhri O’Connor has been on the pod since the Indo started their podcast

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,176 ✭✭✭deisedude

I think thats standard enough in media that they can't say where they are going. Must be in contracts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,232 ✭✭✭✭siblers

I hope he'll be able to come back on the pod but the way they were talking, it felt like he wouldn't be

I mean they've just been rotating pundits, and have featured second dour Fanning a few times instead of ROC or Thornley. The Indo have been doing rugby pods for years and years. All these journos write for papers with podcasts at this point. Wilson is on so many he might get prostitution legalised in the UK as a test case.

I did a quick search on my podcast app and it seems the last time that Ruaidhrí O'Connor appeared on the podcast was this time last year (May 2025).

Joe Molloy's Indo podcast started in September 2024 and RO'C has been regularly on that from day one. The Left Wing has been going for even longer than that and RO'C has been a regular contributor.

Maybe RO'C realised he was spread too thin, or else the lads were happy that they had the 'Irish rugby journalist' angle covered by having GT

Maybe Newstalk finally got their man or the independent got there hooks into him, will be interesting to see where he ends up!!

Commiserations to Ken and all the other Celtic haters around the world, fairytales aren’t real but Paradise is

And the penalty on Wednesday was very clearly the right decision ;)

    Hail hail

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,122 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Could swear he's been on the last year.

    Maybe not 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭jaykay74

I don't think Kens level of interest in Scottish football registers enough for him to be a hater. Largely indifferent I would think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 726 ✭✭✭Tucker.Tim

I see Ken has written his mea culpa to Celtic in the Times today

Better late than never for an Irish catholic, radical socialist footballer supporter to see the light

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Quite a reactionary piece from Ken.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,085 ✭✭✭cheese sandwich

A bit too try-hard at a contrarian take

People complained about teams with the biggest budgets winning everything. Now, they're complaining because the smaller fry have come up with a way to compete again. A real shame that Celtic won it again, hopefully Hearts go one better next year.
