aiken own both live at the marque and ATN. Exclusive rights for festival is about other promoters Stealing your headliners or undercutting the specialty of your line up by having act play too soon near the festival date.
as ATN is sold out and kneecap at marquee will sell out instantly they is no risk with the marquee show.
Win win for aiken, kneecap and cork audience

Wouldn't have a clue, but a stand alone gigs only 3 weeks before the festival itself is a bit strange.

Still hoping for another 2 or 3 big international acts to get announced, can't believe that Mary Wallopers are billed so high up, they're good fun but can't be considered sub headline standards really

Festival bookers have set budgets for each stage and judge bookings on the fee asked relative to known demand in ireland. They want to get the best buck for their euros.

if an artist who can sell whelans is asking for the same fee as artist who can sell out vicar/olympia which one are you going to book.

lineup definitely feels 1 or 2 acts light at the top. wallopers billing doesnt give me much confidence in what they've got in reserve (if theres anything even there) . just gotta hope further down the bill fills out well with next announcement.

I know Fanirish will jump on this and disagree, but the top end of lineup is most definitely missing a headline act for one of the nights, could do with another sub-tier international act too, and I fully expect to see the next main announcement add acts at that level, not buying the budget spin either, I can remember EPs with under 15k punters with bigger lineups, ATN expanded last year, it's probably expanding again to +35k, ticket prices are up, it's sold out in record time, corporate sponsorship is there in abundance, I just can't see them skimping on the lineup especially when they are riding the hype wave after last years success

The more I look at the poster the bigger the gaps I see in relation to main stage headline / sub headline, headline slots are probably Pulp, Kneecap and Underworld (and I 'd suggest Kneecap won't close main stage), but disclosure DJing, there is no way they are on the main stage, that's more a SKOW or Lovely Days act, if they were playing live they are absolutely main stage material, I know Bicep headlined last year but Chroma was a beast of an AV spectacle and they had toured the world with it and all major festivals, that is not what a disclosure DJ set is. Below the 3 headline acts I am struggling to see any names on that poster that would warrant a sub-headline, last year London Grammar sub-headlined for Bicep, wet leg for fontaines, I don't see that calibre on lineup for this year yet.

Id guess a couple of sub headliners to be added, not expecting massive acts or anything but there's something to be added in the upper level surely. Christy Moore obviously a very big act but he'll most likely get the Max Richter spot of Sunday in SKOW around 5pm so in terms of timings he's not really exactly a subheadliner.

Comparing this year to last year there is clearly space for stronger sub-headliners

Yeah they need a big pop act, Lorde/Nelly Furtado
Something in the world of Sugababes and Natasha Beddingfield as well

If you look at something like Y Not Festival on the same weekend in the UK, there is plenty there we could take

The Libertines, Scissor Sisters, Happy Mondays, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Vanessa Carlton, The Vaccines, Kaiser Cheifs, The Streets, Reytons and Two Door Cinema Club, surely youthere is one act from that list we could take for sub-headline our side

    I agree Disclosure for SKOW

disclosure on the main stage on the Sunday with underworld as well.
maribou state headlining SKOW after pulp on the Friday. Kneecap and the wallopers Saturday night on main stage. Christy moore playing SKOW on Saturday evening

Kind of agree. What do people think are the two closing acts for Main Stage and SKOW for Friday / Saturday / Sunday. so 12 acts in total

6 late Main stage acts: Pulp, Underworld, Kneecap are all gauranteed. Who else? Maribou state?

6 late SKOW acts: Disclosure, Mogwai, Mall Grab, Floating Points, Mary wallopers? Gilla Band?

and there will be a midcard international acts in next announcement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,037 ✭✭✭Fanirish

wallopers and disclosure are not playing SKOW. Main stage acts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 275 ✭✭MiniFridgeMen

Main Stage headline slots I believe are
    Friday - Pulp
    Saturday - Kneecap
    Sunday - Underworld

scissor sisters would be a great add

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭Le Bruise

The Libertines, Happy Mondays, The Vaccines, The Streets and 2 Door Cinema Club would be great. Have seen them all before, but some good nostalgia there.

I can see Disclosure doing something similar to the Groove Armada DJ set on the reformattted Bandstand area last year... I think on the Saturday night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭Gus Ivey

Would wallopers be last or 2nd last on main stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 752 ✭✭✭Blackie_IRL

Kneecap and Wallopers as headline/sub-headline on a Saturday night for a main stage for 2nd biggest festival in the country is weak as f***, CMAT last year was 2nd sub-headline and that is IMO what Wallopers will be, leaving a gap for bigger act on the main stage to either headline or sub-headline, a large electronic act is generally the closer on the Saturday night

I see Guinness is now gone from the "partners" on the bottom of each page on the website but still appearing on the dedicated page for partners.

kneecap are the strongest headliner out of them, pulp and underworld. the wallopers sell a lot of tickets in ireland, that the truth in the matter.
kneecap are a high energy electronic act with a dj. Them into the late night stages is apt tbh.

This is Kneecap at the biggest festival in the country in the middle of the afternoon last year.

No doubt in my mind that Kneecap are a worthy headliner for Saturday night at ATN at this stage.

What I'm more curious about is seeing if/when we'll get an act like The Streets, Example or Scissor Sisters to round out the sub-headliners, as well as some homegrown talent with a good current profile like Kojaque, KhakiKid, Curtisy, MOIO or F3mii.

While I'm asking for things I'd love Joy Crookes also. (I know she's playing FF already)

will be a few international acts announced in late June. Won’t be scissor sisters level

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 752 ✭✭✭Blackie_IRL

Taking about the combination of both as headline, sub-headline. Kneecap with a stronger sub-headline is fine.

Hoping for a few big announcements yet. Agree the lineup last year vs this year has a lot more in the sub/ mid tier IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 752 ✭✭✭Blackie_IRL

Westlife just sold out a dozen nights in the 3 Arena, selling lots of tickets in Ireland doesn't always equate to the right act for a headline or sub headline act at a musical festival, as much as I enjoy the wallopers they are IMO not the right type of act to put on a mainstage at 10PM on a Saturday night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,037 ✭✭✭Fanirish

they are perfectly fine for a 10pm riotous slot on a Saturday night at ATN.

The Wallopers played the main stage a couple of years ago. Load of shite if you ask me, but each to their own. It was early evening, still well bright. They shouldn't be anywhere near a closing set
