Ghosts !!

Heard two people discussing some house being 'haunted' and 'full of ghosts' ……

I do not believe in ghosts or 'haunted' …… have visited a few 'haunted' places but never saw anything out of the ordinary …… and am pretty certain there is no such thing as haunted and there are no such thing as ghosts ……

People who 'see' ghosts or feel a place is 'haunted' may be seeing an optical illusion ……. light has a funny way of reflecting and producing shapes …… or hearing an animal …..

The related banshee is most likely a tomcat noise …… I think that there are more logical explanations for 'ghosts' and 'haunted' …… because I do not think ghosts exist and 'haunted' is a state of mind ….. a place being spooky and a place being haunted are not the same imv ……

    Thoughts ??? ….

yeah. its all fake. there you go, saved us all a load of arguing since fake and not real is usually what people like yourself want to hear. People dont have these experiences and some of them decide to make stuff up just so they can be humiliated by people who know better.

There is nothing supernatural in this, or any other world, except for Santa of course, he's real alright.

With all our tech, fancy cameras, heat sensors etc, available now, if there was anything paranormal it would have been filmed properly by now. I'm not talking some of the terrible, shaky, grainy stuff you see online, but proper HD footage.

The reason we have none if because there is nothing to film. Many people believe in ghosts, paranormal etc and because of this they will be more inclined to see a shadow, a glint of light, a natural phenomena etc as something it isn't. These folk tend to believe in astrology and other such nonsense as well.

There has been been numerous TV shows all over the world, for series after series, and they have zero footage. Zilch.

100% ….. there would be some evidence filmed or photographed of this stuff by now …… plenty AI stuff of ghosts, mermaids, aliens, etc. …… doing the rounds …… but nothing authentic ……. because none of this exists …….

Remember visiting that Loftus Hall place years ago ….. was a hotel at the time …… and heard the story of this stranger getting shipwrecked on a wet stormy night sometime in the 1800s …… and seeking help at this place …… later the stranger is fancied by one of the upperclass women in the house …… presumably her and family/owners were of gentry class ??? …… later again they are all playing cards and someone drops a card …… and sees the guest has 'hooves'/a cloven foot …… the man suddenly vanishes ….. the man was said to be 'the devil' …… and the house forevermore is 'haunted' …..

Precisely the type of thing that does the rounds ….. first Loftus is not haunted is the truth …… it is in a remote treeless area which would make it 'spooky' …… second there is no proof if the event described even happened ….. and if it did it was probably embellished …… any number of possibilities here other than the man being 'the devil' or 'an evil spirit' …..

The man may have been eccentric …… the man may have worn a type of shoe/boot not common in 1800s Ireland but typical in say England ….. there is also talk the woman in question suffered from mental illness and may have seen something that was not there !! ….. or maybe the IRA made it all up to associate the devil with the gentry/landlord class !! ……

Today it serves the tourism agenda and I remember the place being considered popular for Halloween …… it has become a sales gimmick …… for me that is as far as it goes ….. it is totally made up or embellished …… but appeals to people who believe in ghost stories, mediums and astrology ……

Well if you are going to cherry pick your own meanings for those words, what hope have we? You just put them goalposts wherever you like and that doesn't suit you you can always move them.

I've read an almost identical story about the card game and the cloven hoof but it was in the Hellfire club in Dublin.

ah lads - ye’s are in the wrong forum. If you want to beat your chests and tell us all how intelligent you are, go find another forum to pontificate about. If you’re too cynical (like major love child) then move on like good lads as no-one here wants to bother with ye’s. People are almost afraid to post in case the ‘I know it all’ gang arrive. Ye’s don’t know it all - let that sink in

It appears this same story …… or a close variant of it …… happens again and again ….. Loftus, Hellfire, Castletown, Achill Island, Scotland's Glamis Castle, etc ….. the origins of the story and whether it occurred in any form at all are questionable ….. but what is not is that no devil, ghost or pagan god like pan appeared ……

My guess is maybe one or a few of these events did take place in some form …… but were severely embellished as the years went on …… for the Loftus incident there was a ship called Earl of Sandwich that got into difficulty in the Hook head area ….. in 1765 …. passengers were thrown overboard here ….. perhaps that was the basis of the story ??? ….

Let us say one of these survived and made land near Loftus ….. let's say he wore some ship-related 'strange' footwear ….. let's say he was eccentric …… then hey presto automatically he is 'the devil' ….. and if he was not 'gentry class' and if the daughter of the family fancied him …… her parents would say he was 'possessed' ……. the superstitious nature of the times did the rest ……

With regard to the Hellfire Club …… I have read that people deliberately went there to dress like the devil and it is inevitable that one of them would try and pass himself off as the devil …… with gullible people believing him !!! …… this goes on the whole time in recent times …… 'moving' statues anyone ?? !! ……

The devil at a card game seems to be common all over Ireland, England and Scotland ….. often drink alcohol or swearing during the game as well …… one myth was added to another ….. and the tourism industry have kept it alive …..

the hellfire club purposely created myths of ghosts etc so people wouldn’t be nosying about

lots of video of apparent paranormal occurrences btw. The issue is it’s too easy to fake them so unless it’s something you see and record yourself then you cant really say.

As with any of the devil fables - just like Castletown, there is never a year given - no date, no time. Just made up pishogues to frighten kids and gain attention.

Whats that rubbish though got to do with the paranormal though? You’ll be pretending science knows where consciousness resides next.

I hate golf but you wont catch me in the golf forum telling people how much I hate it. Wonder why people who (apparently) don’t believe in the paranormal seem to hang around posting about how silly the idea. Madam doth protest too much. ye’s obviously love it!

Sorry for going off topic…but I'm genuinely curious…what's with all the…? I've never seen so many ellipses used before. Although an ellipse is usually three …

Aww stop. There's no point having a pop at science - it's not your enemy in the long run and it'll be a better friend to you than superstition ever will.

I don't like golf either but golf exists - unlike ghosts.

whos having a pop at science?

We dont know where consciousness come from. are you pretending we do?

'I don't like golf either but golf exists - unlike ghosts.' - translation - I am cynical about ghosts as I completely have no interest in believing about them even if I had proof'. A sceptic would say they just couldnt prove a ghost exidsts so therefore it probably doesnt. Whats a 'ghost' anyway?

here @Major Lovechild - have a peek. Maybe even learn

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aynzcAYnnJU

Get yourself to that Golf forum and give out. Makes as much sense as doing the same thing on the paranormal forum

also - superstition? Who is talking about superstition? Ive often told you of the experiences Ive had personally - not superstition. Lived experience - dont be belittling someones experience by assuming they are confusing it somehow with superstition. Be honest and just tell them you think they are lying - as that would be the truth of what you'd be thinking. I think its a bit of an ego thing. 'I never had a paranormal experience so I will **** on anyone elses experience'. in reality you're just dying (pardon the pun) to have one. thats why you visit this forum

You obviously don't like it. Don't get yourself into tizzy about this. I'm not pretending anything. You're going down the old dodgy semantics route again. Also you are trying to tell me what I'm thinking - and that won't work at all at all. You want the skeptic to say what you want the skeptic to say and that's not how it works.

But - if you can offer conclusive proof that ghosts exist - then I'm all ears.
