Next weeks warm spell is getting shorter by the day. However Ive seen a lot of long range forecasters showing a warm June. However Sligo has had colder weather least year and this even in the so called warm Summer that it was 14 to 16c most of here and too windy and cold for the beach.

This year all the months so far have been colder than last year and May has been Winter. ...not evrn Spring bar day one and two the other 15 have been colder than normal as below.

Those years were cool in May due to a persistent easterly breeze for a few weeks.

Today was just cold from early on. Little warmth in the air

2c, calm dry, on west coast, at 03:00 in May! The sky is crisp clear, tapestry of bright stars

Cloudy in north Longford so far. I can see brighter sky's in the distance west and south. A chilly feel at 6c at present. Had my birthday over the weekend, feeling a bit tired so won't be up to much today.

Yep remember those cold May nights of 2020. New potatoes got a right scalding. Set them back for the year.

Not sure where you got easterlies from, easterlies don't have the same cooling effect in May as they do earlier in the season unless it's properly long fetched from the northeast which can happen but rare enough. 2010 and 2020 were northerlies, 2021 was westerly with cool air within low pressure.

@sryanbruen said in his forecast yesterday that there would be a fiery sky at dawn in Connacht. Attached is the dawn sky in Connemara this morning, that guy knows his stuff!

Last night Straide got down to 0.3c in the hourly update, not sure if it got any colder. Claremorris 0.4c.

I think May is going to be a month of 'Lies, damn lies and statitics'

Take the last two days here in DA, absolutely miserable, lashing rain and only 6-10 degrees for nearly the whole 48 hours.

However on both days a single'window' when it reached 13 degrees so both days will probably just go down as 'average' but not. Both horrible days.

Also earlier on in month temperatures reading ok but 'wind chill' meant it was freezing most days.

This is one of worse starts to May I ever remember!

I'll take your expertise on it, but I remember the veg garden was parched, we are sheltered from northerly breezes and plants got wind burn that year. I had to put up a wind barrier it was so severe.

Today another horrible day. Heat back on

The only positive I can say is that in Dublin, the first week or so of May was at least dry a lot of the time if a bit too chilly feeling. I am in full agreement that it's gone complete arse ways since though.

Cut grass this afternoon as the humidity and impending deluge it be twice as high later in week. Glad got that done. Raining since 5pm. Kids did all their sport tonight in rain. Can hear it lashing out there now.

    10⁰ raining. Meath

Its very overcast and grey with intermittent rain in north Longford this morning. Feeling mild at 12c.

certainly today feeling a bit milder than recently. Yesterday was first proper rainfall we've had here in Meath, grass still on the brown side but it's getting greener.

Bring back the dry cool weather I say! It was a lovely few weeks before the rain came back. That said I know the farmers need rain and higher temps for grass growth now. I did a lot of driving over the weekend - Limerick, Cork, Kildare & Dublin and I noticed that the south got a lot more growth than Galway/Dublin. Especially grass and I noticed silage was being cut in Cork/Limerick. Maybe it was because I was driving around the Golden Vale. The whitethorn/hawthorn trees were amazing all over the countryside. A feast for the eyes.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Can't wait for this 16 degree heatwave in Dublin at the weekend, according to RTE, will be a nice break from the 13c we've been enduring for weeks .

Sun popped out in Greystones for a bit and was feeling relatively warm. 16c. Cloudy again now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭odyboody

Think the whole heatwave thing is because a lot of the reporting comes from UK rag top news reporting.

Ill stick to the lads here and MET

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,380 ✭✭✭squarecircles

Theres no heatwave and the warmth that was looking likely at the weekend has been pushed to early next week for 48 hours,

that now too is being watered down as the Atlantic pig muck is edging in further on every run, diplacing the high further east,

we should be back to standard misery by next Wednesday/Thursday irregardless - southwest pig flow, extensive stratus cloud sheets, cool, grey gloom, dull, mist, drizzle, overcast, windy, bouts of rain.

must go light the fire now.

In the long range thought at least only had to deal with rain Monday and today. Tomorrow might be dry. Thursdays rain for my commute wasn't on my radar 😛 Rain in 20⁰......sure you can't wear a raincoat in that. Least the weekend get a welcome break from precipitation for family gatherings.

    Spilling rain. 12⁰ Meath.
