Westmeath were in div 1 the Paidi year. Remember the documentary Marooned they were losing games in div 1 to teams like Kerry.

Wouldn't be surprised if they delayed for RTÉ

    This too shall pass.

Class from Westmeath, delighted for them

What started out as a dull affair became fairly exciting. Westmeath very nervous with the finishing line in sight in normal time, but so composed in extra time and fully deserving of the win. I know they parachuted Heslin in, but he was full value in extra time and I'm delighted for him. That Senan Baker lad too for Westmeath, he was a complete game changer when he came on. Wonderful player and leader.

Dublin have big problems. A mess on the kickouts and it was the handful of old Gavin players who were trying to control the game and take it to Westmeath. Only so much they can be expected to do when no one else steps up.

Beat meath, Kildare n Dublin to win Leinster, would have got good odds on that a month ago!

Dublin in transition for a few years now and with a lack of underage success it's hard to predict when Dublin will win Leinster again. Well done Westmeath fully deserved their win and dominated extra time

Dublin have big problems !! Indeed they have , at all levels nothing coming through, Dublin are finished will be 10 years+ before Dublin will bother any of the top 8 Counties again. Amazing ly money is not helping them now 🤔🤔

Delighted for Westmeath. Doesn't matter that Dublin are on a downward slope.

I am not very knowledgeable on Gaelic Football, but watch virtually every televised game, so maybe I am very mistaken . Ciaran Kilkenny, so many all irelands won, has been one of Dublin's key players for many years and was again most effective today. However, I find his contributions very safe and very boring, generally a relentless series of short handpasses, effective I'm sure but that generates little if any excitement. Some of the new forwards that have emerged in weaker counties including roscommon and westmeath today, are far more exciting to watch. Just my minority opinion.

They are not in transition in my opinion. They have a few old guard but no base of young players at present. They have a similar issue to Mayo but are probably in a worse place

Haven't won an U20 Leinster final since 2020.

Best players Kilkenny, Scully, Costello, Howard, Byrne, Paddy Small are on the way out. 4 of those over 30.

Leinster championship wide open for years to come.

No your right, he is the metronome, not flashy at all. Probably the best to have done what he does.

What I find most amazing that in an era where you have strike runners at wing-back contributing to the attack, like Wallace and Whittakker today, Dublin don't seem to have any. McMahon jibbed it when he had a point attempt in the second half.

Imagine what Paul Curran, Jack McCaffrey or even Kevin Moran would do in the modern game.

Looks like Armagh are doing enough to keep out of Monaghan's reach

    This too shall pass.

He's still a great player. Was probably Dublin's best player today.

Doesn't have the pace to beat players anymore though. 33 soon.

Ulster Final a different level. Either team would have beat either team in Leinster final

    Plays the percentages

    Roscommon and Westmeath respective champions

This is why Athlone was split in two - nature herself knew they'd be too powerful if combined

Not a big fan of the split Dublin talk when they are winning all round them.

More of an advantage than every other county by far.

They are now at a low point (if losing a provincial final could be called that).

Is this not the best time to split?

Already one of the best Armagh forwards I have seen. Consistenly brilliant for three years now

One of the best forwards in Ireland for a few years now and still very young.

It's great to see Dublin's dominance in Leinster come to an end, but i'm just delighted for Westmeath really. Congrats to them and their supporters on a brilliant and well deserved win. Westmeath is the place to be this evening for sure!

    Mod Note

We had the Dublin Dominance/ Should be Split for a long time and it went Absolutely no where and was Banned from the Dublin thread for a reason.

Kindly keep it out of this one too.

And we shall not be going down the Kerry Dominace/ Should be Split nonsense either - no more of that from now on.

Any issues, PM only, do not reply on thread.

You are spot on Kilkenny was a vibrant aggressive minor very direct up there with David Clifford as one of the best minors of All-Time, two footed . But all that off the cuff stuff was coached out of him at county level.

It was grand under the old rules he destroyed Tyrone with the constant same safe runs in final one year.

But in the new rules a Ciaran Kilkenny type player needs runners off him. Otherwise many times the momentum of an attack goes dead. It is frustrating to watch. Kilkenny can pick a pass too but lads don’t run enough for him. Personally I would have Kilkenny at centre half back let him dictate how play there, is my logic.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Armagh going forward look very good. Fairly slippy and wet conditions but are racking up a nice score, 1-19 in 55 minutes.

It's a clear transitional period but a transition to what they are at the moment, very ordinary where Division 2 could be their level for a few years as they watch others win Leinster
