Well done to Bulgaria. A real banger and a very worthy winner. Delighted for them. I loved Australia too. Delta has nothing to be sorry about. She was fantastic. Only watched those and the UK song so far but, honestly, what the absolute hell were the UK thinking? I got 2 minutes in and just left it at that. Awful. The UK could absolutely have sent something like Angebangera without breaking a sweat. I mean it actually sounds like like a lot of what’s contemporary in the UK right now. Before watching I felt they were maybe robbed with 1 point.. but they weren’t.

The UK submission had deteriorated significantly in the past decade. Last night was just another rubbish song, and I thought they had reached rock bottom in 2024.

I did like their effort last year. This year was almost a classic contemptuous Eurovision entry. Austria basically said "we're good" this year with their entry as well.

Did the people who voted for other countries (who didn’t win) waste their time and money? Or just those that voted for Israel?

I watched the voting sequence this morning (on YouTube, so no commentary.) Well, the negative things I heard about the presenters all week were true. I half expected Victoria to step out from behind the podium at some point to declare she was AI and didn't really exist. That said, I liked how she said several times during the voting that not receiving any televote points didn't mean no one voted for you, it just meant you didn't make the top 10 in any country. I also found it really odd as well that the scoreboard didn't reorder as the lower points came in, and waited until the 12 points to rearrange itself.

They really need to do something about those spokespersons building up their part. It should take 15 secs max to say "Hello Vienna, this is Berne calling. Thank you for a wonderful show, our 12 points go to Malta. Goodnight and thank you." Instead they all dragged it out…"Hello Vienna, this is Valetta calling. Thank you for a wonderful show, it was truly, truly spectacular and you have indeed proved tonight that we are all united by music. I can't believe it's been 18 years since I represented my country in Belgrade, and I'm so, so happy to be back with you all again [even though not a single person remembers her.] I know exactly how it feels for all of you in the green room and I'm thinking of you all. You have all done your country so proud tonight, and you can all return home with your heads held high. As you can see, here are our early points. And now, the big moment, the big reveal, the moment you've all been waiting for…the 12 points from Malta. [She then bursts into the chorus of the song with which she finished 14th in the second semi-final in 2008.] Our jury has spoken, and it has decided that our 12 points go to……………………………………………………………………Moldova."

Seriously, we need a new rule next year, every spokesperson gets 15 seconds to deliver their 12 points. If they fail, cut them off…the EBU already knows each jury's points as the juries voted Friday night.

I also watched the interval act. An interval act featuring past participants singing a medley of past entries? Groundbreaking.

This idea needs to be killed now. It was fun in 2019, and tbh, it was great until 2023. But now it's tired. Whatever happened to giving the host country a chance to showcase their culture?

And they mimed too. That was rubbish. And am I right in thinking that Dara mimed her reprise? It seemed that way, especially for the part in the green room.

There is far too much filler between the last song and the beginning of the votes being called out. I didn't watch it last night but did watch the 1995 one from Dublin, the whole interval was just 6 minutes, now it's nearer to 45, that year there were 24 countries (just 1 less than last night's final), there were just jury votes BUT they were all called out, not just the 12 points. The whole contest ran to 2h 55m.

I'm not a fan of also rans from previous years being dragged back to sing someone else's song, like you say "ground breaking" get rid of it.

The video was from the full rehearsal on Friday night. From what I can gather, the rest of the delegation had an early start doing admin stuff Saturday morning and didn't need to be there til the end.

There is no need for the phone lines to be open for around 40 minutes after the last song is sung, especially since the lines were open since the first song. I'm old enough to remember a five minute televote window! Either open the lines AFTER the last song and keep them open for 30 mins max, or open them at the start of the songs, then close them 15 mins after the last song.

And while the jury votes cannot start to be revealed until the phone lines are shut, there's still too much of a gap between the lines closing and the first jury points. Don't forget, the jury votes were collected and verified on Friday night, so there's no excuse not to start them sooner.

Romania snuck up on most people with a fantastic song and performance - a lot of people blindsided due to it being more for the metalheads and not the mainstream pop crowd.

Surprised Sweden finished so low - great song but her vocals were pretty poor.

Nothing against Israel ….. not a fan of the regime there ……

Might watch the 1996 contest later on.

‘Ooh Aah…Just A Little Bit’ - timeless pop classic that deserved better on the night.

Already talk of Belgium boycotting next year’s contest.

VRT are the Flemish controlled channel and believed to favour a boycott. Let's see how this plays out with the EBU later this year - I'm not sure German and Austrian TV will be in as strong a position to fight Israel's corner given that the hosting and staging in Sofia will have nothing to do with them.

It’ll never taken but what happens if a winger decides to boycott because of Israel? I know then Israel likely get first right of refusal to host but given the reason the host boycotted in that point it wouldn’t look good. More a thought exercise really. Bulgaria will be delighted to finally host. Good luck to them.

Good article from Politico - the referenced article from the New York Times is also very comprehensive.

Seems Israeli "interference" has being going on longer than previously thought.

And EBU has refused to detail public voting patterns which is suspicious… data that is know however shows at least some countries who have a negative view of Israel, their public vote for Israel was significantly large (e.g. Spain)

I’d say the EBU are in a precarious position now. Chances are they knew Israel was cheating ages ago and either failed to deal with it or dealt with it privately by back channels expecting they were dealing with a reasonable country which of course they weren’t. Then they couldn’t force their hand due to legitimate support for Israel by EBU member countries. Now they’re hiding voting data trying to cover up the whole mess. The whole situation has discredited the neutrality and impartiality of the voting process and competition.

Basically Israel have destroyed Eurovision. Well done!

Or maybe people in Europe don't have the same bizarre hatred for Israel that the Irish seem to have.

Maybe they see beyond the Palestinian sob stories and see them for what they are, i.e. willing to murder ever Jewish person if the opportunity arose.

And remember a lot of Europe is still scared from the Holocaust, there are people who still remember their school friends and their families being rounded up and transported to their deaths, just because they were Jewish.

That never happened in Ireland, we don't have that memory.

The Irish are really on the wrong side of history here.

There are many absolutely massive fans of Eurovision. I was never a massive fan but regularly tuned in just to hear Terry Wogan's spot-on commentary and in later years, Marty Whelan and Derek Mooney et al. There have of course been many fantastic songs over the years - I thought Bambi Thug was a shoe-in. And I recall my first memory of ESC when ABBA won in '74.

But for all those die-hard fans, it must be heartbreaking to see their joy turning to dust - for the sake of banning the demonstrable cheater which is Israel. And without doubt, that includes many Israeli fans who also must be disgusted too.

If they are banned, I'd say the collective sigh of relief over Europe and beyond will be palpable. But it is necessary to try and rescue the institution of ESC for the good of those core fans. At least put it to the vote and not let the EBU pussyfoot around again.

We’re at a point now where the problems are obvious even to the most sceptical or disinterested viewer. You can only deal with Israel and its influence by an outright ban. The current situation can’t continue. I think our run of success in the 90s was a similar inflection point for the contest. I think it was feeling stale by that stage so opening up to the newly created Eastern European countries was a real shot in the arm and injected new life into the show. Eurovision at present is dieing. It’s a rigged contest which nobody is willing to address. They simply have to take the bull by the horns here.

The fact that the split screen involved Israel both this year and last is significant - realistically their songs both years would have merited maybe coming around 12th to 15th, so really makes their positioning in the top two suspicious and meriting serious investigation by the EBU. The reaction videos from the media centre in Vienna before the televote for Bulgaria showed how tense the atmosphere was and the palpable relief and joy when Bulgaria won. It really was a case of delight that Bulgaria won but equal relief that Israel didn't. This situation is simply unsustainable and needs to be dealt with once and for all.
