we cant be doing too much complaining really , that penalty got us back into it when we were really struggling in the game , we got one or two soft ones in extra time too , great game in fairness , penalties is an anti climatic way to win a hurling game , it works well in soccer because its more exciting than the game its self , but in an exciting game like that it almost feels like an end of training session feel to it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

might win by the under 20s albeit on penalties , whatever worries we might have about our seniors full back line , having guys like michael o'halloran and ronan loftus coming through eases any long term worries , daniel costelloe and ronan kilroy had excellent games too ,

michael collins had a fine game but its going to be hard to find a place for him senior with the likes of stritch going for the same role , kilkenny of galway await for the final two weeks saturday

Hon the Banner. Unreal work rate from the lads. Brilliant from Sheedy on penos. Penalties really unfair way to decide a game especially for young lads.

Three outstanding saves from the Clare keeper.

Penalties are a solution to a soccer problem. I.e. you could literally play for an hour without anyone scoring. Not needed in hurling.

Instead of playing a set 20 minutes of extra time, you could play first to 7 points. Change ends after a team gets to 4 to balance any wind advantage.

yea sort of like a tiebreaker in tennis, that wouldn't be a bad way to decide it I guess, certainly better than the bloody lottery of a penalty shootout

Could be a rematch of the 2023 minor final , against Niland, Rabbitte and co.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 804 ✭✭✭supernova5

think I'm prefer Kilkenny in the final, Galway forwards are absolutely lethal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

they are good but we have excellent backs in this team , tonight there were 2 starting tipp forwards , fair enough oisin o'donohue came on late but we held our own against a serious forward line

we are exposed at the other end of the field if thomas o'connor is not wining ball too many small lads in the full forward line the ball just didnt stick enough tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,263 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

you want to face the best, this is ultimately a development grade

anyways, they will play the best as it’ll be whoever wins the Leinster final

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

if this team starts we will lose , but giving we are up against the master of dummie teams there is almost no point in buying a program tommorow night 🤣

if cathal malone is not back in midfield by 7 oclock tomorrow night , then terrence fahey will be the senior coach next year ….

A lot of people calling for john conlon to be called in as a sweeper or as a 6 ,

lads he is 36 and only has a 20 minute game in him , its time to start the younger lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,263 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,263 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Conlon was probably man of the match, and it could be seen as a bad sign that we were going back to the past for solutions.

but today younger lads like Stritch, Lohan, Rynne, O'Farrell were excellent, they had probably their best days in a Clare shirt (so far!). Adam Hogan looked back to his best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

the one thing that annoys me about lohan is he needs it to be a disaster before he changes things , but in fairness he is a good man to get things right , not one on here could have ever predicted that we would have a starting full back line of john conlon and david mcinerney tonight

daragh lohan was excellent tonight , o'farrell and stritch excellent again tonight if sean rynne can hold his cosistancy he would become a serious hurler , david fitz had a good cameo too tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

yeah i honestly could never have seen this coming and it worked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭another36

I was someone who wishing him back as I felt if he was on the bench he could play and felt the back line needed a mentor, but I suspected he would have 50 or so mins. What blew my mind was seeing him still running to the last second. Just incredible. Every ball he was there.

Slight hints of 2013 about it, sweeper and tight defence, great long range point taking.

Stritch like his clubmate Colm Galvin, TK still doing TK things, Ian Galvin like Podge..

I won't be getting as excited just yet , there is the limerick blockade that has always been a troublesome wall to knock and we have yet to Play cork this year in any meaningful game

We have a bit of a sign over cork and limerick and ourselves seem to go every second game..

We will have a better idea where we are after next Sunday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 385 ✭✭King Power Fox

Cork with 4 starters definitely out for Sunday. Play like ye did on Saturday and I think ye will win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭another36

Not sure it's that easy with a week break. Few Clare starters are likely to be out too.

Just as happy to go in the back door

Kelly has a serious enough ankle injury ive heard . Rodgers will hardly be risked either after the knock he took

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,263 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Sunday is not a dead rubber!

These Clare lads don't have a Munster medal and this possibly their last shot at it.

If we have a proper go on Sunday and still lose - then we'll have 5 weeks before an All-Ireland quarter final v Leinster opposition.

    6 weeks to a potential All-Ireland semifinal.

Absolutely, Lohan will have them all out to win on Sunday. Probably down a couple with injuries but a chance for lads to step up.

Bit early for them things, someone would want to show them back the limerick game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,263 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Rodgers is out of Sunday’s game , Ryan Taylor too.

We’ve a decent squad though so can still go and beat Cork.

Good win for the minors. The treble is still on !

    Clare 1-18 2-17 Longford

A good win for the visitors as clares taltainn cup hopes fade in round 2 , clare were bosted by the return of dermot coughlin to the starting line up and eoin cleary and emmett mcmahon to the bench , the latter came on for the last 15 minutes and kicked 4 points but it wast to be

Still missing a chunk of last years team paul maddens side were lacking up front , longford had no such problems with dylan farrell and oran kenny kicking two pointers to set the tone for the visitors , farrell had 0-4 of longfords 0-8 first half points , at the other end 6 of clares 0-7 first half points came from arron griffin and mark mcinerney

A tame start to the second half it took nearly 10 minutes for daniel renolds to open the scoring the game caught fire a few minutes later when cillian rouine found the back of the longford net and set up a frantic last 20 minutes , mathew flynn struck back straight away as both tea,s went point for point up to the last ten minutes

Four points from Emmett McMahon wouldnt be enough to see clare through as kenny and farrell both found the back of tristan o'callaghans net , longford had a 6 point lead with 3 minutes to go before two 2 pointers ,one from the boot of mcinerney and one from mcmahon brought it back to two , with seconds remaining eoin cleary had a shot half blocked from 50 yards out but as the hooter sounded longford held on

conor meaney , brian mcnamara ,Aaron Griffin and cillian rouine the best for clare , dylan farrell and oran kenny excellent for the visitors finishing with 1-7 and 1-4 respectively

    Clare Scorers

    Aaron Griffin 0-7

    Emmett McMahon 0-4

    Mark Mcinerney 0-4

    Cillian Rouine 1-0

    Fionn Kellleher 0-1

    Alan Sweeney 0-1

    Dermot Coughlin 0-1

yeah , you would hope we would have enough in attack to cover the injuries , not trying to sell us short but a defeat is not the worst thing with an old panel and a few injuries , if we lose its 4 weeks before the all ireland 1/4 final ,but i imagine the likes of kelly malone and shane o'donnell would take your hand off at the chance of wining a munster

hopfully tomorrow is the day o'donnell finds his form again hes been quiet the last few games , a good test for daragh lohan against the speedy cork forwards somthing daragh dosnt lack , he had a good game last week in thurles , i imagine we will see cathal malone in midfield too he played as a 3rd midfielder for most of the game last week
