There will be countries querying that Israel result again.

They still need to fix the issue with televoting. It's still a big issue. I see the EBU changed the rules and only allowed 10 televotes instead of 20 per person which probably swung it for Bulgaria. Its still a mockery.

So happy for her! She'll represent Eurovision very well. Checking hotels is Sofia.

    JJ calling her a bitch.

Simple - just stop public voting but they won't because of moolah

It started with Ukraine and hasn't stopped and won't stop until public vote is gone.

That screeching Austrian just there was cringe. "BITCH BITCH I knew you'd win"

"What does that even mean, vetting?"

This. Televoting has been a farce from day one. Should have been scrapped years ago.

Who won ? And was it a good song ?

Honestly public voting in any show is a cash cow but a race to the bottom in terms of the competition. Honestly, I know feck all about soccer. That doesn’t mean I should have a vote on who gets on a team. Leave it to the experts.

oh yeah deffo - wouldnt be out of place on BBC Asian network (if its still going)

Thought that Australian performance was the best on the night, and it should have scored better. No issue with the Bulgarian entry winning, and it won with plenty to spare. Will Bulgaria be able to host the show next year, given the expense?

I hope RTE announces a continuation of their "boycott" very soon, so we can get that over and done with. I have to say that I enjoyed both semi-finals, the second more than the first, and I really enjoyed the final tonight, without the negative input from the Irish media. The coverage on the BBC was excellent, as always.

I would expect more countries to pull out next year

I always speak from a music standpoint when it comes to ESC - which is why, for a second year, this happens - Israel’s placing is completely undeserved.

‘Bangaranga’, ‘Ferto’ and ‘My System’ were the songs fans loved the most. Not a single person had any praise for ‘Michelle’ - it wasn’t on ANYBODY’S radar.

Something really has to be done about the televoting - completely unreflective of the viewers taste.

So what did I miss? I opted for the PGA coverage on Sky, before doing what I did the past two years, put on a 90s feel-good flick. A friend of mine messaged me after the jury vote to tell me Israel did better than expected than the jury vote and he had a bad feeling about what was coming next.

It appears literally everyone who didn't want Israel to win, both jury and the public, all got behind one song…Bulgaria. Imagine what could have happened if the jury got behind one song and the public chose another? Eep.

It's the stickies in the RTE union who will decide if the boycott continues.

    🙈🙉🙊

The most immediate way to stop any party monopolising or influencing the public vote is to scrap it. Simple as. No tweeks will mitigate the efforts of a state or oganised campaign to influence the public vote.

Wow, I gotta thank Bulgaria for saving me buying a new TV just as I was about to fling it out the window

Delighted Bulgaria won, voted for it!

I'd say that the Eurovision organisers feel they dodged a bullet. Can you imagine how many countries would have boycotted it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,050 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I think they were more worried about dodging a riot in the audience

This is said every year for the past few years. Nothing changes. Nothing can change with Israel’s back room support. Next year will be the same and someone will say the exact same thing. Maybe more countries will pull out. Who knows. The EBU care more about placating one particular competitor than the integrity of their contest.

Well done to Bulgaria and their neighbours Romania.

Romania would have been better winners imo.

If it was a split-screen between Bulgaria and say, Australia, then fair enough. Both brilliant songs with great performances and staging. The audience both at home and in the arena latched onto them, in a way that can’t be explained - they just ‘connected’.

But the fact that ‘Michelle’ made absolutely no connection whatsoever - practically forgotten about by 8.20pm - that’s when the hand goes to the chin.

But ho hum, here’s to ESC 2027 where the EXACT same scenario will play out again.

    it's that M word again..momentum.

I posted a few weeks ago about Occidentali's Karma, the Italian entry in 2017 which, until a few weeks before the contest, everyone assumed would win easily. It didn't.

Then, the following year, there was Fuego, which no one paid any attention to until rehearsals started. And all of a sudden, it was being discussed as a likely winner.

And so to this year, and Bulgaria wasn't even noticed until a few days ago, then it picked up speed after the semi-final, and here we are. Finland was losing momentum, and by the time the contest started, most people seemed to have forgotten Greece even existed. Doesn't seem like that long ago people were provisionally booking hotels in Athens.

Momentum…no matter how much you plan or prepare, you never know what could happen in the hours before the contest.

Anyhoo, congratulations to Dara and her team.

Thoroughly well deserved - fantastic song, fantastic staging and a fantastic performance.

And hats off to JJ for continual use of the word ‘B1tch’! 😁😁
