We do this every season, brief we won’t spend much and then go over our ‘limit’. Better that then Woodwards ‘we can do things only other clubs can dream of’

I don't know anything about Charles other than he's a Wilcox kid, what type of player is he?

This summer transfer window could/ should be as big a as 89/90 ...we brought in Pallister, Irwin, Webb, Wallace,Phelan Ince. FB, CB, 3 MF + Winger. It was the foundation we needed and set us up for years

Imo we should be going for best in class as much as possible. I would go all out for Hall and Tchouameni. Either Fernandes or Baleba as seco d middle of the park player. No harm in giving Collyer or Thwaites or Fletcher game time as the 4th choice. At some stage you have to give youth players a chance. Nunez is a left field call, but a good shout imo if wages are not crazy. There is a decent player there who would be also able to play up top with Cunha behind him

I think though if there is any chance of Barcola we should be all over it. We badly need a LW as well as a LB. Something totally different to Cunha on the left

Whatever about CL next season, we need to push on and be a challenger for the league

Possibly need to add more than Nunez to the front three given how off the boil Amad is and that Casemiro is joint second for league goals. And no way they pay a transfer fee on a player whose turning 36 soon. I'd INEOS in general will be hesitant to spend money on players over 28 especially 30 since they love resale value.

Defensive midfielder, good technique and passing range. Very high potential - could be the next big thing. Type of player that Palace pick up as a repalcement for Wharton and people are hyping him up in 2 years as the guy to buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,513 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

aagree on Amad, but unless we are selling him i don't see us buying, especially if the club view Dorgu as a winger.

Cunha, Dorgu, Bruno, Mount, Mbeumo, Amad, Lacey, Sesko, [Striker].

Can argue availability or performance levels - but from a squad number and budget perspective, i don't see how you add more to that without sales. I'd sell Amad, I'd sell mount, I'd look at Dorgu for LB. But I don't see the club doing those things - even if they might want to sell Mount (no market)

Don't think Dorgu is anything other than a squad player...definitely need to shift Mount on if at all possible

Same so googled him and obviously Google will hype him a little bit because it's taken reports from articles others have posted. Was mentioned somewhere else he can play RB also.

Shea Charles is a highly-rated, tactically versatile defensive midfielder for Southampton and the Northern Ireland national team. Standing 6'2" tall, he is celebrated for his physical dominance, press resistance, aerial prowess, and defensive intelligence, though he occasionally shows inconsistency with his progressive passing.

    Key Strengths

    Physical Dominance:

His height and strength allow him to easily shield the ball in tight spaces, win physical duels, and consistently dominate in the air.Defensive IQ & Interceptions: He is an expert at reading the game, tracking runners, and intercepting passes. His tackling and defensive awareness are standout traits.

    Press Resistance:

Despite his size, he possesses deceptive agility and tight ball control, allowing him to navigate challenges and evade opponents in congested areas of the pitch.Ball Carrying & Driving Power: He can carry the ball forward from deep positions with composure, driving his team out of defensive blocks and initiating attacks.

    Positional Versatility:

Highly adaptable, he can seamlessly transition between a deep-holding midfield role, a box-to-box midfield position, and center-back.

    Main Weaknesses

    Passing Inconsistency:

While he has the capability to play line-breaking passes, he can occasionally force forward balls that are not there, leading to turnovers or overhit passes.

    Risk Management:

In his eagerness to transition into attack, he can sometimes make higher-risk passes that offer opponents interception opportunities.

    Developing Output:

Because his primary duties center around destroying plays and building from the deep, his direct goal and assist numbers are still developing, though he occasionally pops up with crucial actions.

Dorgu has the versatility to play LB or LW IMO. And we'll need him at LB once Shaw comes back from the WC injured.

If Wilcox thinks we can get by with only a replacement for Case in midfield he should be sacked on the spot, which is why I don't believe those reports. And banking on Mainoo not missing a large chunk of games through injury next season would be a huge risk as well.

A second striker is almost as vital as midfield with Sesko being prone to picking up niggles and neither Cunha or especially Mbeumo looking like an alternative.

Dalot, Ugarte, Zirkzee and Onana will probably be moved on before Mount, DeLigt and Martinez. Nobody's buying from our knacker's yard of injured players unfortunately. Either way, I reckon the squad will still be light at the start of next season and we'll be relying on our reserves to play early domestic cup rounds etc.

2 year deal is what i would have offered so happy enough. Gotta keep Holland with him too.

With Sancho, Holland and Casemiro gone, and hopefully shift Rashford, Ugarte, Zirkzee that's some saving in wages already. Add in the 70 to 100 million from champions league and we on paper should be able to a lot this summer. Feels nice to see positive vibes again.

Think it is a bit unfair on Dalot to lump him in with the other three.

I would 100% keep Dalot as a squad option - great versatility and fitness which is what you want for a back up and can be hard to find. Great attitude and effort too, wages don't break the bank. Won't sulk on the bench

A new LB will have to be bought regardless of Dorgus versatility. FB is a vital position and plays a big role in how teams attack. Can't be relying on Shaw and Dorgu to get you through next season.

I wouldn't believe a word of the one midfielder thing. It doesn't seem to be reported anywhere and these Twitter pages always have quotes up from a podcast if Ornstein actually said it. I'd say it's someone putting 2+2 together from Ornsteins comments about how they'll be approaching the window.

I really hope they push for Mateta. Could surely get him for less than the £26M Milan bid in January for him. They're supposedly still showing interest so might prefer guaranteed first team football. 41 PL goals so far in his last three seasons and a decent age where he shouldn't affect Seskos long term future but also a player Sesko could learn from.

Should be tried at left back just to see if he can do it. Not at the expense of buying a lb though.

Just do the experiment now rather than next season

Dalot is abysmal and the fact he has miraculously spent 8 years at United shows everything wrong about them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,513 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Dalot is good enough that other positions are always more important to upgrade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭ollkiller

I see the logic of him at left back. But in 2 games before he got injured he was flying at LW. Could be really good in that position in time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,287 ✭✭✭✭JRant

Mateta would be a shrewed bit of business but he could cost a lot, even with only 1 year left.

I haven't seen anything from how Carrick sets us up that FBs are that important to how he wants to play. In general I'd agree with you but we don't have the funds to buy a RB and LB.

Spot on about the FBs. We need a few upgrades along with CM these are the 2 critical positions in the summer.

Watching Carrick presser there and like honestly I love the club and love the history and I don't care if he isn't a top tier manager and even if he doesn't bring the league title. He loves the club and gets the fans and I'm delighted he gonna be manager next season.

If we look at it and be heartless yeah maybe they are a better option out there but sometimes the best option in paper is not the best option for the club.

Would love if if he won a trophy next season. They need to back him.

And versatile aswell - hes equally comfortable on both sides. Type of player Fergie always used to keep a few off in the squad.

With deLigt crocked I wonder how much Burnley would want for Esteve?

The dream signing up front would be Thiago.

Never happening now with Sesko purchased last Summer.

If he was to say I only want United surely £20M would be enough to get him. Unless they're stubborn and just refuse to do business with us whatsoever. Could see Newcastle pushing to sign him and Nunez.

Can't really do much with Shaw at LB TBF. Can do a job in certain games when you need a LB who'll defend but you're getting literally 0% from Shaw in attack anymore. LB is a must for the summer with Dalot and Maz being alright given the needs in other positions unfortunately.

For me ST, CM, and LB are the three areas that need need new signings. A back up keeper fair enough needs bought if Vitek leaves whether on loan or sold. Could find one cheap enough.

Agreed re Shaw hes not getting injured but hes not running enough to get injured

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,643 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

Milan almost signed him in January and it was rumoured to be 30m fee and 3.5m wages.

If a similar deal was doable now ,it would seem like shrewd business.
