Enrique is not a realistic option, neither is Flick or Simeone, so pointless mentioning them as they are not going to leave their current jobs for Liverpool at the moment.

Someone not mentioned who might be available after the world cup is Ancelotti, but his Everton connection probably puts an end to that. Very hard to know who will take over if Slot does go, which he should. Alonso seemed the obvious answer, with his connection to the club, good track record, available and having gotten the best out of Wirtz, but, the club or maybe Alonso himself didn't fancy it.

No real obvious candidate now, until the Chelsea rumours are confirmed about Alonso, I'd Still hold out some hope that the club might move for him.

I'd be surprised if Slot and the club part ways during the summer and it's presented as a parting of ways rather than a sacking.

Enrique & Flick should be the two main targets.

I doubt either is available but that should be who the club are targeting.

FSG are asleep at the wheel as far as I'm concerned. There is no metric were Slot is doing enough this season. I had hoped that this was all a smoke screen and they were working behind the scenes but it really appears as if Hughes and Edwards wanted to give him next season.

I think that ship has now sailed but we've one candidate less to go for. The post Salah made and most of the players liking it is a direct attack on Slot. This has turned toxic as **** and Slot is done. Pity it's taken this to force FSG to deal with the mess.

Those comments from Salah show him in a very bad light.

A petty man loving the opportunity to get a sly dig in at Slot.

It’s ALWAYS been all about Salah as far as he’s concerned and I don’t think he cares about the club 10% as much as he cares about himself.

I still think the club want to keep Slot, and are probably hoping with Salah, Robertson and a few others gone over the summer, that he could somehow turn it around, sheer madness, but, that seemed to be the plan, but, I think it's blown up in their faces big time and things could get even worse,.

CL still not secured and the team in open revolt against the manager, relying now on both Bournemouth and Brighton not to overtake us, as can't see us getting anything from Brentford now.

I thought that with his post-Leeds comments but less so now. He's been talking about standards for quite a while now and if this season is anything to go by, those standards have disappeared on the pitch. We're facing into a season without Mo, Robbo and possibly Alisson. 3 huge characters, all of them leaders. Slot has overseen a team in freefall almost since we won those first 5 games of the season and, if anything, standards have dropped on a weekly basis.

He's run out of road, long since run out of excuses. I'm ok with this being flagged now. I'm not even sure it's a personal attack on Slot, moreso at the club as a whole.

As a side issue, Ornstein reporting that Alonso to Chelsea is done. Things are going to get very heated over the next few weeks.

I don't see a single word from that Salah post that could be construed as "anti-club." It's nothing different to what's been echoed in here all season, not good enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,873 ✭✭✭John arse

Yeah was thinking that myself, hard to figure out what's behind it when he's leaving the club this summer. For me he's always been about himself - people saying he's a legend, he's this that and the other but he has done very well himself out of Liverpool, let's not forget that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,162 ✭✭✭Damien360

I agree. If we were playing well and Salah wasn't getting a game those comments would be seen as petulant.

But given the situation the club is in with regard to performances across the board, his comments just shine a light on what so many fans have been complaining about.

It's probably the first sharp comment from a direct Liverpool source all season. Before this it's been just fan speculation. And now it's out in the open.

But he talks about the team crumbling to defeat and changing the style back to 'Heavy Metal' football - Klopp's football style, hanging Slot out to dry imo, which might not necessarily be a bad thing?

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Alonso has agreement in principle to join Chelsea.

I wonder what is going on behind the scenes now. Those posts would have been created with help from their agents or pr team. I can't see how Slot can stay on.

Ancelotti just signed a new contract with Brazil to 2030

I've only ever seen them post in this thread when they're having a go at Salah. That post is no different.

If Slot is still there at the start of next season I will be lumping on him to be the first manager sacked next season. The pressure on him to have a flawless start next season will be immense. Just one glimpse of the absolute dross we have seen this season and the pressure will mount to sack him. One or 2 bad results in August and he will be gone by the first international break.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭antimatterx

I like the idea of Xavi tbh. I’d love Enrique but never happening. The most unrealistic option, but I’d love it is Klopp to return. I wonder if Pep left would he sign a 2/3 year deal.

He made a flawless start to THIS season....

Mo isn't wrong on what he said, but it's a cheap shot on Slot at the same time. Just leave if that's what you want, no point throwing a grenade over your shoulder. Classless in truth.

There does seem to be a slight mood music shift over the last 24 hours - the likes of Joyce and a few other commentators questioning whether slot will be there next season now....

Salah is a club legend but he's been absolutely dogshit this season.

He's in no position to be throwing sly digs in

He should STFU as far as I'm concerned.

You're as bad as Slot, scapegoating Salah. Whole team is sh it this season, who's fault is that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,625 ✭✭✭Floppybits

They were even **** then just about getting the result but there was never any improvement and it just got worse and worse. All the good will Slot got in the bank from winning the league is gone with what he has produced this season.

The buck stops with him, he picks the team, they are his tactics and it has been an unmitigated disaster. He has been unable to turn things around and look at us unable to produce a performance at any stage even now coming to end they can't produce.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,065 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Hmmm i was all prepared to give Mo both barrels and say "what's your problem with Slot? He should have dropped you earlier"

But now that i read the post, I find it hard not to agree. What Slot is either trying to do or arriving at by accident at the club is not acceptable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 432 ✭✭Tommysocks11

Its all a smokescreen lads, end of season slot comes out and quits to take ajax job as more suitable as regards family etc and liverpool will paint it as a mutual parting, that's why they haven't sacked him due to his league win last year, out of respect but he knows himself to go or else get sacked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,873 ✭✭✭John arse

Yeah but no-one else has come out with the sound bites that Salah has especially the first one when he couldn't handle being dropped when he was playing crap- still got the big wages that week though, don't forget?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,065 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    8m doesn't go to 40m in 8 years.

The point was we bought Kerkez based on established Prem performances and he still struggles to bring the Bournmouth game.

There might be mitigating factors but Robbo didn't have a first season like his, Klop refused to play him much in the first half of the season IIRC but once he was in he never looked back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,407 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Ajax is not a suitable fit at all for someone who won the league with Feyenoord. Would take a lot of time to earn goodwill there.

I'd see him in the Bundesliga next

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,873 ✭✭✭John arse

Would have quite fancied Alonso personally, got sacked at Madrid with a win record of over 70% and also brought Wirtz on great at Leverkusen but I know some didn't fancy him, we'll see,,,,,,,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,563 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

fabian hürzeler and his staff, plus Milner

But Brighton just signed him up long term

Klopp started Robbo very early on in that season and he was whipping cross after cross in. Crystal Palace I think it was and we won. IIRC Klopp was quite scathing of Robbo after that game, and he wasn't seen for a while after that.
