I just worry that I’m going to end up waiting and waiting and waiting with no news and not being able to properly plan ahead with a potential acceptance / rejection email at any time.

Yes the delays seem excessively long and this issue must be the biggest bottleneck for getting the numbers up. Has anybody identified what the main delays are caused by?

I recall I had this battleax aunt (we used to call her the witch) who refused point blank to have her name mentioned at all in my application process. I put her down anyway and there was never any questions about it.

That's helpful but again the gardai are trying to recruit from different communities and when people apply the vetting takes years and these people end up not joining the force. The meeting with lots of different communities and delivering speeches about joining the gardai is a big publicity stunt and nothing else. I dont know why do the gardai waste their time and the everyone joining that are born somewhere else.

the english police on the other hand only need 3 to 5 years of history for the vetting.

    Still waiting

My son is going through the process and he passed the fitness test no problem but his BMI is high due to being a former rugby prop. They have given him 10 weeks to get his BMI under 30 and certified by his GP with the cert sent to Garda CMO for review. So I'd say you're ok.

what’s the idea with the station interview to begin with and why do some do it and others don’t

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭MrJonsb25

Just depends on your background and what could show up in your vetting. Basically a mini interview. Just asks about any friends or family who might have flagged and how well you know them.

The Super I had asked me about why I was interested in joining and what my wife thought.

When are you called for station interview? Is it after everything else is done? I'm waiting on sign off on Medical but everything else is done.

It seems to be near the end of vetting but in saying that I did mine in January and Im still waiting so who knows to be honest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭Mike277

I got asked to one no idea it was even a thing until I read it here. Don’t know what to expect from it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭MrJonsb25

Theyll possibly ask you about your vetting. If any of your family flagged as having had interactions with them. How you know them and you relationship with them. Just be honest about it clear about everything.

He asked me what my family thought about it and how it would impact my kids. He also asked me a question from a list he had. It was explain one time I broke the rules and why. So id assume they have a few to choose from.

Probably do well to be dressed for the occasion as you would any interview.

But they are grand enough to be fair. They arent trying to catch you out or anything

Commissioner has said that the target is to increase the size of the force from current numbers 14600 to 15500.

If that is the case then between the existing numbers currently going through the vetting process and including the new campaign candidates from one just launched for 2026.

They only require another 900 to reach the target strength.

With each intake of over 200 at a time entering Templemore, that target could be met by the end of this year or early next year.

They've set up a separate unit to deal with Garda applicant vetting, which hopefully will speed things up.

The bigger problem is the scale of the vetting. Vetting all your family members for their life. Your uncle was summonsed in 1992, but that was pre-Pulse, and the outcome was not recorded. Right, let's ask the member, but he retired in 2012. Right, ring his final station, anyone have a number for him? Rng him, does he remember summonsing your uncle in '92? Does he f@!k…..

Now throw in a couple foreign jurisdictions, and the Garda HR have no control over that. They apply, and then they just have to wait. Wait 3 months for the Greek police to reply, cos you spent that summer working on Eos, incomplete information, re-submit…….

does anyone know the average wait time for vetting to be complete or is just case by case basis?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭Mike277

is there a reason they pick certain people to do the station interview and why other people just go straight to the college. Like you said yourself it’s no guarantee on anything you can still be waiting for months if not ever hear back again. @MrJonsb25

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37 kevmac07

Everyone does station interview. The ones who got straight to college are going on conditional offers. Basically there vetting is still in progress and if something bad shows up on it they could of wasting there time and be thrown out of templemore. Its a risk going on conditional offer. They will still need to do station interview before vetting is fully completed

I know, but family members shouldnt effect us,we cant control what they do,and its not fair

Everybody does it? Right I didn’t know that, that clears it all up. So why do some people get conditional offers and some don’t. I would imagine the station interview would be the last thing before the vetting being cleared. Is the conditional offers something you have to request from the Gardai recruitment themselves or are they handed out to certain people for certain reasons.

I have all done except vetting. They have sent it back looking for more info that I cannot find! Looking for my mother’s partners parents history. Her partner has never met his dad and has no information on him. Genuinely panicking over this as it is not even blood related! Has anyone here gotten through vetting with some info missing! It’s beyond frustrating at this point to have passed everything else!

Any offer is sent from the Appointments Office no candidate can request it.

I did one with the sgt AND Inspector in home (district HQ) station last September and did a second one with the superintendent in Divisional HQ a month later and still waiting.....goes through anything flagged on Your vetting and general natter to see if You're a good fit for the job

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37 kevmac07

Im guessing anyone who receive a conditional offer is because when they checked over everyone on vetting nothing of serious concern shown up on it (thats only a guess) I have a few bad pups on my side of family and few bad eggs on wife side also, nothing serious just minor offences but im guessing thats what holding mine up. I had sergeant interview 3 months ago he was happy to sign off on everything but im still waiting for offer 😔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Edsjd227

Think the same here....had some relatives who had interactions with Gardai in the past but minor things......Inspector asked me if I knew about weather I knew about it which I did but didn't know much about it

Has anyone gotten through form b process with affidavit re family members from solicitor? Sorry for all the questions but I have exhausted all avenues to find information about people I do not know!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 Conn007

They told us that no more affidavits you just have to find all the information about the people yourself and thats the end of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 Inspector Morse2026

I applied Jan 2024. Had PCT in June 24, medical July. Had station interview in November 24. Started in the college June 25. Vetting wasn't finished until late September 25. So don't expect interview any time soon. It's a slow process.

    Hope that helps.

18 Months for Inspector Morse from applying to receiving an offer and starting in Templemore.

It has been said that the process can take up to 18months to complete, so that time frame would be with in what was said it takes.

Then you read what other candidates are experiencing 28months and still waiting, indeed some candidates have posted they are from the 23 campaign and still waiting.

Does anyone know of a candidate or candidates who had been waiting longer and eventually received an offer.
