We wouldn't even be making Europe without Van Dijk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,162 ✭✭✭Damien360

We won't be making CL next year or Europa for that matter if we keep going at this rate.

VVD is still good but has definitely lost some pace. He is absolutely incredible with regard to lack of injuries. How long can we rely on that given his age.

Hes had to do so much defending this season because of the midfield shambles.

Remember we won the first 5 games of the season. Seems years ago. Only for that we'd be in the bottom half. I said we'd scrape over the line. I'm really not sure, Brighton or Bournemouth could absolutely pass us. I have zero confidence we even draw with Brentford

Remember when Salah was the defining problem and is being forced out as a result.

Hasn't Salah started nearly every game he was available for in 2026?

A shameful period with so many so called experts happy to row in.

Salahs form has fallen off a cliff though. Slots style doesn't suit him as well as Klopps but he was mostly average this season bar the odd game or part of a game.

Not having a proper replacement for him really hurt us.

    You'll never walk alone.

Lads I can't believe that we're actually in a position that us the fans are in manager out rather than back the manage that won the league in his 1st go.

Yes this season has been a **** show but come on to f**k. Benitez didn't achieve it and Houlier didn't achieve it. Two managers that gave me great memories as a Liverpool fan.

    Arne deserves more time

We don't deserve to play CL football next season.

Don't really post in this thread too often as I'm only a casual fan but a regular reader and poster elsewhere. Had said in my whatsapp group very early on this season that I wonder how long it is before Slot becomes under serious pressure for his job, at the time I didn't think it was the type of thing Liverpool would do especially after the success of last year and the tragedy of Jota's passing - but things have gotten so bad since. It's at the stage now it's hard to think of a single reason it's worth keeping him on.

Alonso seems to make so much sense. Loved at the club, has said he wants to manage us in the past, has a good track record overall and a one of the true highly rated coaches in football right now. I'd argue his 'system' (although I think he is more flexible than we're led to believe) is more suited to the squad we have right now than the way Slot wants to play. Slot arguably needs about 4 new players for the starting XI (2 wingers, DM, RB) whereas Alonso could probably get away with less. It may have been hard previously to see how Salah would've fitted into the Alonso plays but considering we have virtually no wingers as of next week it would surely be the ideal time to move to a manager who doesn't really use them?

Isak Wirtz SzoboszlaiKerkez Grav new signing Frimpong new signing VVD Konate/Jacquet Alison If Arne is kept on and given €200m+ to spend in the summer I'd seriously fear the position Liverpool could be in come November time as it's very hard to see him turning this around. Not to mention it's very possible Jones/Alison could also leave this summer if he stays on (possibly leave regardless). Give him the golden handshake and payout this week, speak with Xabi, seal CL football next week and give Salah/Robertson the send off they deserve and allow people to look forward to this summer and what lies ahead. Slot too deserves a positive send off - undoubtedly supporters would have bitten your hand off if you said Liverpool would win a title and get CL football in the two seasons following Klopps departure, although maybe not in the order you'd expect.

Has there ever been a manager who has recovered from this level of bad? Genuinely.

Edward, Hughes and Slot all being out of contract in one year is the more worrying part for me the lack of long term stability of the club is at risk now.

FSG gave the fans everything they wanted last summer after winning the league a huge summer transfer window bringing in top class young talent.

But for some reason decided to let the three men who have control over the club and those transfers run their contracts down.

Perhaps but everything he says about the keeper is pretty much spot on. I was at Anfield last weekend and seeing him in the flesh highlights how poor the other elements of his game are.

It's ok to point out that we need to upgrade even if other parts of the squad are in need of update. It speaks to a general decline in the recruitment in recent years in general.

We've lost as many games this season as 2 of the 3 newly promoted sides (us, Leeds, and Sunderland all have 12 losses)

We're 2 goals off conceding as many as United did last year when they finished 15th.

It's a miracle we're still in a CL spot, even if we win on the final day it'll be the lowest point tally for 5th place in almost 20 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,768 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

We are exceptionally lucky that both Chelsea and Spurs are basket cases currently, and that 5th place gets CL, even with all that and the fact we won our first 5 games, we are still hoping other teams slip up. We are in an awful state and keeping Slot next season will do long term damage, that could take years to recover from.

The reality is next season is going to be a tough season regardless who is in charge, the the club seems to be in a bit of disarray behind the scenes, confidence and morale has drained away from the squad, plus there will be lots of player turnover and there are large gapping holes in the squad. This summer is extremely important and we need to get a lot of things right

Id say so. I'm not saying slot is a certain but you never know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,563 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

See I DON'T believe it has, as every other player has experienced the same fate. If team was functioning correctly, Salah would have 20 plus goals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,098 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

When the players stop playing for you - and they have - you don't recover.

No point beating around the bush for the sake of endorsing the club's philosophy.

We've now lost 4 games from our final 10 (9 played, 1 to go) this season.

From 16/17 to 23/24 we lost a total of 7 games from the 80 that made up those seasons' final 10s. 2 of those losses came in 19/20 after we were confirmed champions.

Defending champions. Biggest transfer spend in the world during the summer and get a performance as embarrassing as last night. Hard to comprehend how badly it’s gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,563 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Brighton manager is very young, but Fabian Hürzeler has been compared to Klopp by Milner, how playing for Fabian reminds him of how Liverpool played under Klopp. Plus Fabian and Klopp have a good relationship, Fabian has spoken of how he has called Klopp for advice. Can see why Brighton just gave me a new long deal. He never wanders from his philosophy, this is who we are, this is what we do. Slot will try anything to get a tune out of team. Amorin never changed, I admire he refused to, and fell on his sword.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,002 ✭✭✭mormank

Well, that and the fact that football inflation is among the fastest inflation on the planet and the price of every player has almost doubled since we signed Robbo ten years ago. If you go back another ten years you could get prime Shevchenko for only 30 mill as the most expensive transfer ever at the time.

Plus it was pre Neymar to PSG inflated the market probably about 25% over night with that one transfer.

I've read an awful lot of negativity around Kerkez but I firmly believe he will be our left back for a very long time to come.

I mean we did win a trophy last year but I see his point.

He knows how to pick his moments doesn’t he

have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it. Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games. Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on.As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.

Very pointed comments about 'heavy metal football'.

There's backing the manager and then there's backing a guy with record numbers of defeats who among other lowlights this season, Lost 4 0 to PSV, 3 0 to Nottingham Forrest, 3 0 to Crystal Palace, Defeat to Wolves the bottom team, draw at home to Burnley. How much more evidence do you need to realize he isn't the guy to take us forward.
