the chill factor of that north wind is bitter, just in from a run, and the warmth of the post run shower was as welcome as one in January. We seem to have had a stronger run of winds than usual in recent months

Id imagine its just that windchill thats making it so cold. The car hit 17c at one point yesterday, but when I opened the door it nearly took it out of my hand.

I remember the fine start to the summer last year. Anyone looking for grass was hoping for a few of them May showers. Sure we're never happy.

I think this is the problem. It's 10 degrees for example this morning but with that 'wind chill' the real feel is 3 which sounds right.

I still think it's unusal we haen't had a day hit 20 yet, or maybe I'm just spoiled from last year! Everyday at start May hit 20 at DA in 2025!

The Scaraveen in full force this year.

Was a wind more aptly named.

Exactly, the average max temp for early to mid May is around 14º, which we have reached almost every day in Dublin at least.

The nights have been a bit cool at times but it's also been very dry. It's been a decent enough stretch of weather by Irish standards.

    And it's still only spring.

And it looks like it'll warm up nicely from next week just in time for the official start of summer.

Yep even windier today, horrible day and looks like wind is staying around for a while

awful winters day today, very chilly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,212 ✭✭✭Neddyusa

    Wind chill is absolutely baltic!

Had sleet and then hail in one of the big showers earlier.

We seem to be getting a very long running northerly?!

Very impressive rainfall totals for 12th May

    Dublin Airport = 0.7mm

    Mace Head = 6.4mm

    Valentia = 11.6mm

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Whatever about the temperature, go out in a tee shirt at the moment and see how you feel. Baltic.

Yeah, it's not really a case of just comparing the temperatures. That wind chill is freezing! The last few days I've managed to find sheltered spots in the garden to get some of the sun but it's not even possible today.

Yesterday evening/night was a lot more showery here. I was expecting today to be worse but any showers are over before you know and more sunshine than yesterday and less windy.

Very strange weather here in Dublin 8. One minute lovely blue skies followed by intense showers that finish up very quickly. Still really cold as well

Raining on and off here so not even getting a chance to get out .

And cold. Woolly jumper on 😬

Absolutley lashing here in D16 at the minute and freezing but it was clear blue skies about 15 mins ago but still very cold in the breeze.

a huge change today in Meath, dry spell definitely over now after multiple showers of rain and hail, very cold and blustery, feels like early November. Everyone walking around in winter wollies and rain gear.

Sharp showers throughout the day......took shelter from at least one deluge while on a jaunt on the bike on the Boyne Greenway. The clouds and various shades of black, grey with intermittent blue made for great patterns and photos. Plenty more showers in afternoon.

Another heavy shower there now followed by a double rainbow. Folk wearing wolly hats at a local gaa game.

    Sunny and cold.

    10⁰ Meath

This is normal. Last year 2025 was one of the earliest this century on April 29th, only 2011 (April 10th) and 2019 (April 20th) have been earlier. 1948 was exceptionally early on March 9th, a clear outlier.

The 1991-2020 average for the first 20C at DA is May 23rd. 2022 was June 9th and 2023 was June 11th.

Casement and Phoenix Park tend to be earlier than DA, perhaps a bit more unusual for them to not see 20C by this point though I don't think much of a difference overall (some individual years can differ a lot.. for example, Casement was April 10th in 2020 but DA wasn't until May 19th). The Irish Sea's relatively cool temps from thermal lag have a big effect on getting warmth this time of year here.

LiLight rain falling here in north Longford for the last hour or so. 7c, the wind has become a lighter breeze and doesn't feel near as cold as the last couple of days. Its looking likely there will be an early clearance to just showers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,101 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Well it hasn't started that way. Another cold one again today in Dublin...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,506 ✭✭✭✭tom1ie

Feels colder than yesterday to be honest.
Id almost stick my hat and gloves on when I go for my walk!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,585 ✭✭✭✭leahyl

It's been grand in Cork the last few days - as in, don't feel it particularly cold. Yeah, it was windy yesterday but still not freezing and it's been mostly dry, the odd shower.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,323 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

it could honestly be any month form March to October it’s just brighter.
