Lovely day in North Ros, lots of sunshine. Although don’t think many are getting to enjoy it here after a long night in Ros town! 🇺🇦

had a few light showers this morning, first rain I have seen in almost a month, that cleared quickly and a lovely day followed.

Outlook looks a bit more unsettled but we could find outselves near high pressure again, not an atlantic onslaught.

It was a cracker. Had a camera club talk in Waterford, finished up early and got a nice treat before heading back to Dublin.

Cloudy morning with patch light drizzle in north Longford. Some brief bright spells too. 10c, feeling cool in the breeze but not as bad as recent mornings.

Wind is freezing in Dublin and got soaked on way to work in heavy drizzle. The cold can hang around till mid June or so if previous years are anything to go by.

Jesus the wind would go through you here in north Longford. I'm mowing lawns for the young crew and myself and if it wasn for my heavy jacket cap and I wouldnt be able to stick it. 15c the car says, but it feel raw. We have had a few light showers, but the breeze is so strong you wouldn't notice it on the grass.

Cracker of a day here in Dublin city centre, definitely has boosted my mood , and Eurovision later as well 😀 even though Ireland are participating I'm not breaking 16 years of tradition, was nippy last night but this hospital is like a sauna so I ain't complaining

it’s very bright and sunny to look out at but the wind is bitter and strong. Sun is strong but the wind is obliterating the heat. Pity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,512 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

Yeah I'd take overcast and still over this. Running was horrible today. Have I mentioned I hate the wind?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,323 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

I saw someone mention it’s a cracker of a day in Dublin City Centre TM?

Sunny but stormy winds, ruins the day for me personally

I’m with ya on that. I’m a runner myself and that wind is an absolute nightmare. It’s cold and uncomfortable to run into. It’s been hanging around for so long too. There was a break last week but it’s back with a vengeance now.

The wind will be even worse tomorrow I'm afraid. It will ease again after.

Blustery today. Some showers but not too bad. Radar starting to pick up and tomorrow looks pretty wet and blustery here.

Yesterday. Today is very cold and strong wind.

Temp was measuring 17degrees in the car . The wind chill was reducing that to somewhere between 10 and 12 by the sea 🥶

Heard that earlier. In the Pacific .

What will that mean for us ? Lots of storms ?

ENSO influence on our weather directly is minute or small. Historically strong El Niños have coincided with some very mild winters with minimal cold weather and any cold weather there was tended to be later in the winter. The last strong El Niño was 2023-24 (though not a "super" Niño as this one is forecast to be) which whilst it had a cold first half to January was one of our mildest winters on record. 2015-16 is another notorious mild El Niño winter, one of the strongest El Niños on record and included December 2015 which was one of the most cold devoid winter months of all-time and the wettest month ever on record in Ireland.

El Niño summers have historically also been mixed at best, all the best ones have been when it was in a weaker phase. That does not mean 2026 can't be a first.

Oh my God that wind!! It seems to be directly westerly in my part of Kerry. I couldn't bring myself to stake up the plants in front of the house earlier because the wind would skin you! Its tough on young plants and new leaves, I think tomorrow is to be worse?

Is it just me or is it cold so far for May?

In Dublin no more than max of about 13 degrees each day, surely that's low for May and with the wind chill it can feel even colder.

Now the sunshine has been brilliant, can't fault that but we would usually have at least one day at 20 degrees at this stage.

The wind was bad yesterday but my goodness this morning feels bitter.

Yeah, bitter here in north Longford too. Showers tripping each other as well. A typical May day i suppose except for that northern wind chill.

It has been cooler than average but not exceptional.

Dublin Airport is averaging 14.5C for the first 12 days, that's only 0.3C below par.

The same period in 2021 had an average of 12.9C which is nearly 2 degrees below average.
