You would think Vingo won't care about losing pink but apparently sprint teams are going for this so that's gonna be a problem for the break.

The stage profile looks like (a much harder longer version of) every single one of my cycling routes.

Movistar/Decathlon putting the hammer down on the climb now, break nearly caught

My stint on the top of the league is over, too many near misses by my Lidl Trek lads.

the fact I’m leading tells me no one picked Magnier

I followed the cycling news ticker yesterday and was sure it would be a sprint stage but fair play to Moviestar for that, would love to have seen it on the TV. While they didn't win the stage they did come second and added some excitement so kudos for that, I was gutted they didn't take the win.

Is there really sprint points on the top of a mountain today ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,796 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

Jamie Meehan is a very strong break today with 13 riders in horrible wet conditions

Redbull however are not giving them much leeway today

Jaysus talk about a 2 man drama for the last 10k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭Sammy96

Another snoozefest today apart from the drama at the end. Weather didnt help.

After last year's Giro Snoozefest, let's hope things improve as two boring years in a row would be a bit disappointing.

Not sure what more you could want from a stage like today? It was literally made for a breakaway

Early stages in tours used to be far worse than this in terms of racing. Problem is a lack of anyone to cheer for or against. I spend every finale thinking "who is this guy ?" with no real emotion as to who wins.

This isn't really anything new for me and the Giro with a few exceptions. It always seems a lull between monuments and the TdF.

I haven't got to see any of it yet. Is there big mountains coming up soon?

Aw Jaysus. It's very seldom I sit down and really watch a stage in it's entirety and myself and the missus did tonight. That was one of the best nights tv entertainment we've had in a long time. Fcukin AWEsome stage.

The weather, the speed from the start, the battling for a breakaway, the sphincter puckering descents in the wet, then yet man going off on his own, then caught by the Bahrain rider. All the time the commentary is that the lads are wasting their time they never hold off over the 50k from the top of the last climb. Then the drama between the 2 and the emotion at the end. That was an extraordinary stage. And an amazing result. Winner deserved the stage win and the other gets the pink jersey, which her could keep now for several days.

I'll take today any day over a Pog dominant snooze finish!

Todays route while flat is short by Grand Tour standards and has a cobbled finish so while a sprint finish should be on the cards some teams might be suffering from the wet days. And if it rains again today then the cobbled finish could bring chaos at the end

Rob Hatch really grates on me now, the over-excitedness for anything/everything, Would nearly make you miss Carlton Kirby

A 244km stage with nothing happening for the first 230k, and now the final climb might be shortened due to strong winds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭Sammy96

Is it the decent after the race they are worried about with the wind?

Another 200km stage today where it really isnt offering any excitement.

Yeah, he pushes my buttons too with his over-pronunciation of everything. But in his defense, the nature of the sport and "fill-the-gaps" commentary is such that I honestly don't think there is ANYone to which you could listen for the entire length of a cycling stage that wouldn't eventually get on your nerves in some respect.

Not seen enough of it with the TNT/ HBO Max not available in Ireland sh*tshow. It has turned out a lot of my cycling watching was actually on catch up. Keep on missing even the highlights on nowTV.

TNT put up 5 minute videos on youtube of the last 5k or so of races. Not that useful but for those boring sprint stages where nothing happens it can fit the bill nicely.

And thats the Giro over with. Next..

*edit - not as clear cut as I thought it would be

I paid for a VPN and watch SBS online (Aussie Broadcaster). Covers practically every major cycling race. Think the commentary team is Mitch Docker and Simon Gerans. They're not bad at all.

The podium looks competitive. Guess it's another week before we hit the real mountains but being the Giro anything could happen between now and then.

    decent performance from Gall there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,831 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Why has there been a few mentions of Vingo's family today. Has something god or bad happened to them ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,835 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Ah it was over once the startlists were announced really. Gall better than expected but he'll lose 3mins+ in the TT to Vingo. Podium battle will be interesting.

He's on the phone to his wife/manager immediately after every stage, has been doing it for a few years now. Don't think there's anything else going on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,831 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Ah fair enough. He was blowing kisses to them mid stage too so I thought it odd CN were pointing these things out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭Sammy96

Gall is the real deal. He has improved every year. Heard his TT has really improved too.

Doing this too, have NorVPN free as part of my Revolut plan so didnt cost me anything extra. They're doing a nice hour long highlights of each Giro stage too which is perfect for the late evening turbo sessions
