Would you let dealers bid on your car instead of taking one trade-in offer?

Sorry but what does that have to do with how you sell your current car? Nobody is suggesting you buy your new car online

I'd rather negotiate the trade in than sell separately. Just my preference.

Problem is that with a trade in you are a buyer for a dealer, not a seller. So you are often screwed. If you are selling privately it is you who decide the price and have a leverage. If you don’t like an offer you don’t sell it. Trade in is convenient when you want that one particular car that popped up in a market and have no time selling privately. And if on PCP trade in is your only option.

This is something I am considering now - to be honest we've launched this and had great demand so far, but if your listings are full of 2008 Ford Fiestas with 250,000km dealers will probably end up ignoring the majority of emails eventually so I am thinking on this angle now just didn't want to alienate too much of the market.

Yeah that makes sense for sure, appreciate the feedback. I think it depends on the category of car people are buying, when it comes to newer cars it feels like people will always have some kind of main dealer relationship. I guess our target is people who hang back in years a bit - 2015-2022 kind of range people who might be just looking at cost of change to go up a few years without having ringing around every dealer to see what they'd offer.

Good to know! We're only charging sellers currently just to try wedge our way into the market a bit. Eventually the actual business seems to be in charging dealers though for sure.

Seems it can be a high fee! Wow. They have the scale to do so though obviously.
