So thick, their thickness continues to astound!

I remember the chin bra brigade with particular fondness!.....especially the ones you would see out in the open air wearing the chin bra......a sub cohort to be interviewed by Louis Theroux

Why should the irish taxpayer be burdened when the privileged few get discommoded in their travels?

“I can’t pay my staff or mortgage with instagram likes”.

"Irish passengers from hantavirus ship isolating in HSE-run facility for 42 days."

Not enough though. They should be locked up for at least a year, so plaque would not spread.

    MOD EDIT: Warned for trolling

Plus the problem was the amount of time that a person could be infectious before they became symptomatic. Or even just have mild symptoms and think they had a mild cold. Sure by the end of it we were avoiding anyone who coughed, but at the beginning, especially in China, they didn't have that knowledge.

This is interesting and have seen it in a few places that are good sources. At the back of the mind could this variant of hantavirus have a few more tricks up its sleeve which only get exposed over a longer time?

An American national and a French woman evacuated from the cruise ship hit by a deadly hantavirus outbreak have tested positive, officials said on Monday, as the complex operation to repatriate those on board continued

Actually, in China it was common to see people wearing face masks even before Covid.

Americans are so far gone that they take this so seriously. Looking at the comments under the youtube video of your man’s speculation, most of them see to be lapping up what he says; he is contradicting and conflicting with the official messaging. It isn’t just the CDC he is trying to sow seeds of doubt about; it’s basically all public health officials in different countries who are saying very, very low risk to the public and clearly pointing out this is not another pandemic.

The likes of this Allen guy make their money and generated a lot of their money and profile from covid so it’s no wonder he is trying to self-promote with this opportunity, by being a contrarian. At least the Irish media are starting to let this story die at least.

And here too . Many people with immunosuppression due to treatments or cancer or with respiratory diseases wear masks because picking anything at all up will make them seriously ill.

I can't abide way the usual suspects come out laughing at vulnerable people with no clue as to what is going on in those lives is embarrassing on its ignorance .

This is a rare form of a virus that has come to the fore because of the occurrence of it on a wealthy cruise ship

People in poor countries die of Hantavirus every year and the world takes no notice . It's not highly contagious even if high fatality rate .

Once these people are cleared from quarantine it will go back to relative anonymity . Unfortunate that some will succumb because of the unusual transmission mode but it is still nothing to be making a big deal of and certainly not a 'here we go again 'moment .

Its another agenda. Just as the WHO has one. In addition to a problem to contain and understand, they also have an evolving message to manage. Goes with the territory. A bit like getting vaccinated for Covid19 lowered your infectiousness to others should you catch it..but that wasn't true. So contradicting worldwide official sources that chime with the central.WHO world clock is.not necessarily a bad thing. Keeping an open mind to all data is important.

Where the Irish media focus should not be a test as to the importance of matters.

If they locked down for years for Covis-19 - what would be the difference if Hanta came to Ireland.

    People seem very relaxed…

News organisations regularly prioritise stories for clicks as opposed to importance. I've heard the WHO and several immunoligists say there's nothing to be worried about for the general public. They are more qualified than RTE. This virus has been in South America for decades with no panic. Covid was a brand new virus that caught the whole world off guard.

    I wouldn't mind another lockdown!!!!

Seeing this doing the rounds. Q is how reliable is NBC these days ie click bate?

"It has been assumed that the virus is contagious only if someone is in close contact with someone who’s having symptoms. Some experts now suggest it’s possible it may be more contagious than thought."

This is where I start to wonder about the “behind the scenes” drip feed of constant stories the last week. All officials are not indicating any risk of a pandemic and the response to quarantine the ship customers is just caution rather than concern. Nonetheless these little seeds of “doubt” being sown in articles where “experts” are questioning if everything is as okay as made put to be make me wonder whether there is a coordinated media campaign being undertaken. Comments on articles and social media already seem to be missing the official message that this is not covid. It’s also not helpful seeing the wfh-lovers dying to be able to sit at home in their PJs doing f-all and almost hoping for another covid.

For instance, looking at the influencer on the boat Jake Rosmarin, a good friend of the state of Israel, and seeing that his sister is involved with a public health crisis consultancy firm which assists in emergency responses to things like covid.

It’s just the attention being given to the Hantavirus is not proportionate to what the credible public health officials are saying.

Ah here. Now you're inventing your own conspiracy to suggest it's more serious than the "experts" say it is, and also a conspiracy that the "experts" are tyring to manufacture a new lockdown, just so they can WFH again.

I don't expect conspiracy theories be completely coherent, but I expect them not to have only two points that contradict each another.

Has it occurred to you that you're the only one scaremongering, and the only one you're scaring is yourself.

Is the ship considered a superspreader event yet and what with each country of origin for the passengers having completely different rules for isolation and or quarantine how long will it take for info to trickle out from everything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 416 ✭✭SpoonyMcSpoon

Don’t worry, I am in agreement with you that this is a bullsh1t virus clearly of no risk to the wider public.

I’m saying the public health officials are clearly saying it’s fine but then the media are wheeling out dubious “experts” who are planting little seeds of doubt about the official message. Basically, the media are the only ones making this into a big deal, not the WHO or any health official which has spoken in Ireland, US, UK etc.

I am just questioning why the media keep trying to push the story and are trying to make it a bit muddy, when the message is clearly this is a nothing risk to the wider public and is never going to be like what covid was!

My original comment on the thread touches on why I think the media is pushing this story and it is connected to the pandemic treaty deadline which was missed just over a week ago. It seems that perhaps some wealthy corporates might be dying to have this pandemic treaty signed as they stand to benefit financially - I mean; what are the odds that a potential pandemic starts literally the week of the deadline to agree a new pandemic treaty?!
