Ya sorry I was forgetting Kilkenny are on 3 not 2.

It was pathetic. He had no idea where the idea of Clare diving came from, why Adam Hogan got a bad name nor why Conor Cleary keeps getting pinged against Aaron Gillane. Can’t think where or why! Then topped it off by saying any other team would get the foul when Rodgers jersey was pulled and only Clare don’t get such frees. I can’t verify the truth of the rumour that Robbie O Flynn was listening and spontaneously combusted at that point….

in all seriousness though, all teams can point to times they were ridden by refs, not a Clare phenomenon by any means

If Offaly beat both Wexford and Kildare the odds are that the Dublin V Kilkenny match will end up a winner takes all clash with the victor's going to the Leinster final while the losing team will exit the championship. Thats based on Galway winning v Dublin. Should a draw occur in that fixture it would then cause a 3 way tie between the teams with points difference counting.

A Wexford win next Saturday would see them keeping their hopes alive, but still needing to turn over Galway.

Its great to have so many permutations with 2 rounds left. Leinster is often very predictable, but not as much this year.

    I was at it.

The fact Offaly haven't beaten Kilkenny since 1998 might have something to do with the attendance! But results like this will draw the crowds back hopefully.

Exactly, Offaly fans turned out in droves a few years ago for the u20 team, they won't be long returning if there's a whiff of a bit of silverware. Can understand them not being optimistic after the league they had.

Kilkenny fans have never been great but there's very little buy in with the current set up. If things continue as they are that set up won't be around much longer

Very hard to be sure, but having watched it backed a number of times, I reckon the call on the Offaly 65 was correct. Looks like Corcoran knocks the ball with his hand just as Kelly swipes at it. The reaction of the two players would suggest that also.

Waterford as good as out once again 😔

If Tipp lose to Clare then it's curtains for 2 in a row as Cork, Limerick and Clare can be caught going into Round 5

Chances of Waterford beating Limerick would be remote anyway. You’d never rule anything out in Munster, but it would take a huge surprise.

3 hurling matches on TV next week but all on gaa+. How do you promote hurling when most of the attractive games are on pay per view television?

I know Kilkenny are no longer the force of old, but what a performance by Offaly yesterday and they were unlucky not to win. Offaly seem to have some cracking young hurlers coming through and hopefully they might get out of Leinster this year. Hopefully they might inspire Wexford to get themselves sorted as well!

Getting sorted is a long road and Wexford really need to get started. It's gonna get worse before better so important to keep the worse bit as short as possible.

Just hopefully it won't be getting relegated to the Joe McDonagh and Christy Ring cups levels of worse.

The Dublin Kilkenny game in Parnell Park should hopefully be a belter do or die game.

IIn Fairness it's only 7yrs ago Wexford were Leinster champions and blew a great opportunity to be in an all Ireland final...

Wexford have hurlers but they don't have the same ambitions as the lads who played in the past and Keith Rossiter is no Liam Griffin... in fairness not too many people have the Drive in them that Liam Griffin had when he was coaching the YellaBellies...

I dont know much about the Wexford scene but they seem to have good numbers, should be doing better at underage, its where they shoupd be targeting first, no suprise Offaly are doing better after having a few good years at minor/u20 and getting those players through to senior level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,837 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Do they have hurlers. I can't see them suddenly improving because they gey more ambitious.

Who do they have that wasn't on that 2019 team that is good enough to be competing with the best in Leinster and what does the immediate future look like underage ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,370 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

TThey have loads of clubs so numbers is not the issue but hurling is not the all consuming passion like in kilkenny or tipperary for example. Soccer is massive in wexford. Although majority of fellas can balance gaa in summer and Soccer in winter.

The fact they play hurling and football equally means less time to focus on the skills than hurlers in kilkenny, tipperary or south Galway . Hurling in the 4 main towns don't seem to be in a great place. Potential there to be doing better

LLooking Ahead to this weekend. Some huge games. Clare and tipp has massive consequences. Tipp loss and they're out. Have to expect a reaction from clare and the u20 win last night won't do any harm either. Some great prospects. Really difficult to call, tipp haven't got going this year at all bar the first half vs waterford

Offaly wexford interesting too. Offaly will be in a strange position as favourites. Mitchell is a loss. Wexford are just down too many bodies and don't have the quality at the moment. Love to see Offaly win.

Galway will qualify for a leinster final with victory over their bogey team Dublin. I can't be the only one who doesn't enjoy watching matches in Salthill. Not sure do Galway enjoy playing there either.

There'll have to be a reaction from Tipp' - they won't want to cede their title so timidly, and it's hard to envisage Clare fixing their chronic defensive problems in a matter of weeks.

If there's ever a time for Offaly supporters to follow their team, it's now. In with a great chance of qualification, and up against a Wexford side which seems to go from weakness to weakness. Will Screeney be available?

The Galway/Dublin championship rivalry this century is interesting with 5 wins apiece and 2 draws. Even when you would think Galway should have a much superior team, they struggle to get over the Metropolitans for some reason, e.g. 2018, when they only won by 1 at home. Then, last year, when Galway were generally awful, they won with some comfort in Parnell park. There's nothing wrong with watching a match in Salthill, it's a fine venue in it's own right, and no more breezier than anywhere else, in spite of what many would insist to the contrary. The Dublin defeat 2 years ago was Galway's only championship loss there since the RR came in, IIRC, so it's not a bogey ground for them. A little bit of pressure on the home team to get a result, they won't want to go to Wexford park needing a win, and I doubt Dublin will save themselves and concentrate on the remaining home fixture with Kilkenny.

In the other matches, Kildare will put it up to Kilkenny for a while in Nowlan park, but the home side will surely gradually pull away - there's also the matter of scoring difference vis-a-vis Dublin to keep an eye on. Even though they still have a mathematical chance, it's impossible to give any hope to a beweakened Waterford team against a Limerick team with their tails up.

Teams can try and talk all they want about reactions but it's easier said than done. I don't see how a reaction is gonna make Clare good at defending or Quilligan better at distribution.

And what happens when both teams have a reaction. Do they cancel each other out or is it down to who out reacts the other.

According to championship physics, rival counties reactions obey Murphy’s law…. not Newton’s.

i think the issue with clare was , we got away with it against the likes of dublin , wexford and waterford , all the warning signs were there and we changed nothing , we got our arses handed to us by probably the best tactical side in the country and bullied physically too

its a big diffrence in oppisition to two weeks ago , the reason the game will be close is becaus both teams are pretty much at the same level as each other at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭thamus doku

Clare lost to Limerick and did not play well and Limerick played really really well.
Tipp and Clare tomorrow could go either way , Clare won the all Ireland 2 years ago and tipp won last year. Also Neither are in great form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,048 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

i think limerick destroyed us in every faceset of the field that day , i genuinely think the tipp game is a more even game but lohan has a lot to get right if we are to win

    best of luck horse !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 603 ✭✭✭thamus doku

same to you. Tipp clare is a great rivalry. I was at the u20 final the other night. Great game and Clare have some very nice players on that team.
Was tough to lose but Clare were Worthy winners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,048 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

we have a good few tidy hurlers coming through but all small lads up front , i was impressed with how our full back line played against jake ormond ,steffan tobin and oisin o'donohue,

whatever about wednesday night with what tipp have coming through , it would want to be good,

we dont process players as fast as ye do either to senior level

Do RTE have rights to games on Saturday that are not finals ?

I thought Saturday was always streaming but that may have changed.

All on gaa+. Never thought we'd reach a stage where people would miss the sky sports deal but here we are. I think in terms of promotion of the sport it's a disaster that they're putting so much of it behind a paywall. Used to be just relatively niche games but it's increasingly the more attractive round robin fixtures.
