Unpires can make inexplicable decisions, and kilkenny have been on the end of them too. The worst I remember is last year's all Ireland final when seamus harnedy had a shot at goal deflected yards wide by a tipp defender. The umpire, no more than 15 metres away waves it wide, when it was the clearest 65 you'll see.

Fair enough, hope you got a good rest after 👍

Didn't the same occur v Linerick in the 2019 all Ireland semi final

The reality now is we have win our last two games against Kildare and Dublin. If Dublin beat us we deserve to be knocked out and maybe it will be the best thing to happen us in the long term. If we qualify for the Leinster Final and the All Ireland Series that will only hide all the issues that we have in Kilkenny and nothing will change.

Leinster Minor final fixed for Monday 18th May at 7:30pm. Come on Leinster Council, a Monday. Our seniors and Galway seniors both play on Sat so why not Sunday?

What kind of injury? He was helping with the warm up drills anyway, throwing balls in and looked ok.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,831 ✭✭✭me89

I heard he had a knock from the previous week, if so why was he playing? He was warming up by himself with resistance bands and not in some of the drills which i had never noticed before.

That's right, Limerick sideline ball, went off Cillian Buckleys hurl. Waved wide, game blown up then, we won by a point

Except that it should have been a Kilkenny line ball to begin with. Two errors by the officials and I would say justice prevailed.

Need to keep him fresh for the Dublin match now, I'm sure they will stick Liam Rushe on him.

Yes that deprived us of an increase of 50% in our second half score.
and ye think ye have complaints?

first of all it should have been a KK sideline ball.

Agree with that John as I said above better off to be gone. It might start the revolution. Would the county board top brass not be meeting with the team management today to discuss the situation that we find ourselves in? And if not why not.

    Sir

Enjoy reading your posts from time to time. Don’t normally comment much but I’m just curious why you say it has feck all to do with current management?

What do you see or who do you see as the problem

    You seem a knowledgeable poster

Infairness when we're winning you will always spin a negative on things anyway so I'm sure you're quite happy.

Very worrying times ahead. Before we start talking of having to beat Dublin we first have to get over Kildare and I don't think that's a foregone conclusion They were 10pts ahead of Galway at half-time(ok wind assisted) Would we be confident if that scenario played out against Kildare?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,638 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

I only saw the highlights but Galway must have been very complacent, Kildare are very well drilled under Dowling and extremely honest but when it comes to the crunch some of their players are very limited.

Back in January there was a lot of talk, particularly in the media but also here about Kilkenny waltzing through Leinster. I didn't buy into it then though I thought Wexford, not Offaly would potentially be our undoing of a spot in the All Ireland series. Now we are indeed facing into a knock out match and potential elimination by Dublin and/or Offaly. Except we're now concerned about beating Kildare before we even get to that point. Notwithstanding the fact that Galway and Offaly have made strides our lack of top level talent coming through is now biting hard. It's really hard to tell with underage but I do hope we can bring through some high level talent. At least S&C doesn't seam to be the gap now. It's ability, talent, X factor - particularly in the forwards. I attended a few of the underage games last few years just hoping to see that coming.

I am also reminded of the interview Enda McEvoy gave a few years ago where he said Kilkenny wouldn't win another all Ireland this decade and the reason he believed that is he didn't see the emergence of a top team underage - basically a group coming through together. Yesterday in Tullamore I was telling my young lad of all the great underage battles we had there down through the years with lads like DJ, Pat O'Neill, Charlie Carter and plenty others taking on Brian Whelahan, the Cahill's, Jonny Pilkington etc. and we can plot a lot of our success in the following years to teams like those and others. I'm starting to believe more and more in what Enda said there. At the time I thought it was a bit extreme and we could muddle by.

I agree that some of their players are limited unfortunately some of our lads have their limitations. On Dowling when Derek Lyng decides its time to go would Dowl8ng be a strong candidate if indeed he would be interested

Yeah and they were missing Cian Boran and David Qualter too, very physical side with good size and play with intensity but they’ve struggled to finish out matches all year, they wouldn’t have much in the way of depth and seem to struggle when teams are making subs from the 50 minute mark on, I think they’re much more difficult to play at Newbridge than they are when are away, get an early lead on them and they can struggle when having to chase a game, they can be very sticky if they get out to an early lead though

What I was referring to was the production line drying up, or certainly slowing down in the last 10/15 years. We just don't produce or have the players that we used to have. The current management are not responsible for that. They are working with a far greater number of average players than we are used to in Kilkenny.

I'm not saying the current management are perfect by any means. We have clear problems in our set up and our style of play. But it's folly to suggest that removing Derek Lyng will suddenly return us to the glory days. Far from it. I have huge respect for Lyng, Brennan, Rice who were fantastic servants to our county, helped give us some of the greatest days we have ever known, and are Kilkenny men to the core. They give a huge amount of their time free of charge in a genuine effort to bring us success. It's the men above them that have failed us and failed us badly over the past 15 years, and judging by Michael Fennelly resignation this year, continue to do so.

Would love to see him take over in kk tbh. He has had a tremendous and sustained run of success with extremely limited resources in kildare, while also having success at home with the college (less limited resources there admittedly!) and the camogie. If we want someone who can knock a tune out of a team with some limitations, and someone with a serious tactical mind and who players reasons to, for me it's him or mullally right now. Shefflin might be in the conversation but he needs to prove himself with this u20 team before he is in for serious consideration, imo, his tenure in Galway is not a great advertisement.

Either way, we surely do have to be thinking that, unless there is a major turn in our fortune, at the end of this season lyng needs to be relieved of his duties. A great servant of the county but he has had plenty of time and never put a stamp on the team, and doesn't seem to have harmony in the dressing room at this point. Obviously our troubles don't begin or end with lyng, and he came into an impossible situation, but as part of a general root and branch review of our whole setup, the senior management is still an issue here.

On the match my only comment, as I only heard it on the radio (and the highlights would make you think we had a great game!), is that it's madness moving tj out the field these days, given what he offers under direct ball on the edge of the square, and it's further madness just point blank refusing to take off Cody no matter how out of the game and off form he gets. It's ok, like, he's a great player and he's a big boy, he'll get over it and have better days, just take him off when it's not working.

Yeah. That decision by linesman and umpire probably cost limerick 6 in a row.Definitely gave Tipperary a handy AI.
