There should be no doubts over Arteta, he's literally one of the top few coaches in world football! Pep has lost many a game doing stupid stuff trying to be clever.

He made a stupid mistake overthinking things as White unlocks Saka so much better than anyone else, so he tried to go as like-for-like on that over bringing Mosquera in.

The thought behind it wasn't stupid per se, taking Declan out of the middle was the stupid part! But at least it was rectified.

Pity for White. He was brilliant but he's physically finished. Wrecked himself for the club.

No i was like you, wasnt happy as it should have been an easier win. But when all is said and done, winning a match that late and surviving a late VAR check is as good as it gets. Not great for the heart, but result is all that matters.

Finally watched the highlights there, think it's a foul on Raya but just about. The jersey pull swings it for me, without that then I doubt it gets overturned. You can say justice done but given some of the refereeing around those kind of incidents we've seen this season Arsenal have probably ridden their luck ever so slightly there.

I cannot wait for this season to be over. Whatever about freeing up the players to go on and win more, it should free up the fans to maybe enjoy the journey. If Arsenal get over the line I could probably happily watch them feature in a title run in next season without thinking that not winning the title would be a complete and utter disaster.

I was very angry with Califiori when he went to ground far too easily in the first half and they went down the wing and crossed in for the diving header that Rays saved. It could have cost us. He ghad no reason for going to ground and the ref was quite near the incident and waved play on. He then immediately got to his feet but the ball was well down the wing then.

I really hope Ben Whites injury isn't as bad as it looked.

He left the stadium in a knee brace though so it looks like it's season over for him

I didn’t see the game today and followed bbc sport for updates, delighted with the win and I think it’s our 10th 1 nil this season

White will hopefully be ok for the World Cup though. It seems the gutter press tried to sabotage Trossard but it worked in reverse. 2 more games & it’s in the bag if we keep it together. If we did the double that would be chefs kiss!

Congratulations David Raya on winning the Golden Glove outright this season. It's his third in a row. Superb goalkeeper! 👏

As the game was going on I wasn't, but when all is said and done, at this point - with two games left - I think the manner of the performance doesn't matter as much as the actual result. If this was earlier in the season, I'd be concerned, but it's all about just falling over the line in two games time now. However it's achieved.

And, to be very unlike myself, and be glass half full about it: The first half and large portions of the second half weren't great, but they did stick at it. Fair enough, Arteta gambled with the substitutions, but he did rectify it and he kept making attacking subs as the game went on. I think when the chips were down in the final 10-15 minutes the team showed courage and quality, even if they hadn't shown too much beforehand.

The job still has to be finished. I suspect it'll take wins in both games, but, thank god that WH away game is done.

The whole of the Gooner Valley is rapidly turning into an serious alcoholic zone.🤣

Friday I was out lunch time, 1PM, in the Islington Sportsbar by Holloway Road station met loads of auld school Gooners, & joined in the session, got back home Archway at 4AM. On Sat, had couple of pints lunch time, traveled down to Brighton & back at 2AM for a gig. Yesterday I went out after the game, met local lads who went WHU away, who got tickets in their part of the ground. Only managed 10 Guinness, I'm sure I got the Heebie Jeebies a few times!

Most local Gooners are nervous wrecks, as many say Arsenal never win things easily. One game at a time is the best approach.

A local sensible Spurs lad even said to me he appreciated the result! 😎

Gotta have a break from the beers until the next game of madness!

the only thing I love more than winning is winning in controversial ways. I love when a decision causes people to lose their sh1t salty tears are the best.

my heart says it disagrees! That was harrowing actually and I can’t even remember feeling like that watching Arsenal playing, maybe the 06 CL final but too much time has passed there and memories suppressed!
What I do find funny is the talk of a controversial decision, it wasn’t not even close.

I said after the city defeat if we won the last 5 we'd win the league, 3 down, 2 to go. I believed we'd do it then & still believe now.

Always felt this game was the toughest and so glad to have it behind us, when I got the livescore notification for the 'equaliser' my heart sank further than at any point this year. The VAR process was a complete headf*ck but the relief when it was disallowed was incredible. Seeing the replays later on having already known the result, it wasn't even close, it was a clear foul & was always likely to be disallowed.

Reading the reactions to Arteta moving Rice to RB yesterday, I can't say I'm as concerned as most people. We have performed well with a midfielder at RB in the past (eg Partey), so that in itself isn't unheard of. I also wouldn't expect that switching Rice for Zubi would have had such a big impact as it did, and I think part of it is coincidental.

The main thing for me is that I don't think this was a spur-of-the-moment decision. I'd hope that Arteta and his team had talked about this being a possibility if White was injured. For me, it was good to see Arteta try something different and make the correction fairly quickly when it didn't work out. He's often criticised for being stuck in his ways, but the last month or two have shown us he's still willing to try things. They won't always work out, and thankfully yesterday didn't cost us.

I read the injury to Calafiori made Arteta make the change. Bringing Mosquera on and switching Rice back to CM. I believe Arsenal would not have won that game if Rice stayed at RB yesterday. We lost too much momentum and allowed West Ham back into the game with Rice not being there. He's far too important to us and needs to be in his best position.

only after coming around now after the madness of yesterday

madness for anyone to have any doubt about Arteta, look where we were when he took us over to now, we’re on the verge of greatness

Not sure I actually believe Calafiori was injured. He was running around like a madman after the game and even possibly when Trossard scored… I'd have to double check that part though.

It was 100% a course correction made by Arteta's idiocy in the first place.

It also meant we couldn't shore things up after getting the lead because all subs had been used. (Zubi-Mosquera-Havertz-Odegaard-Madueke).

don’t mean to be a Debbie downer but we haven’t won anything yet. On the verge of something special indeed but fine margins and all that. 3 1-0 wins and he gets a statue, don’t beat Burnley and it could unravel. Personally I think if we win the league we’ll beat PSG but after yesterday’s performance Burnley and Palace could be similar games. Buckle up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,817 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Would be surprised if Burnley is that close but any kind of a 6 goal win to pad the goal difference ain't happening. Palace on the last day of the season definitely looking more iffy now, whether they rest their entire team or not. Actually you're probably better off if they don't rest players, anyone coming into the team that day would be playing for a spot in the final whereas anyone who knows they'll be playing in it probably just wants to avoid getting injured.

In general you want to win the league yourselves but I am sure noone will be complaining if Bournemouth took points next Tuesday.

Surely Pep has to go stronger against Chelsea than he would have if the league was still in his hands?

Would be absolutely delighted for Arsenal to win it while they're all round Jamie Vardy's house watching the Bournemouth - City game on TV, but based on how this season has gone I think we all know Arsenal will be protecting a one goal lead at Selhurst Park when the board goes up to say there'll be 8 minutes of added time.

    😬

Yeah, great result yesterday, understandable outpouring of relief, but I will resist the champagne cork popping until it is done. The team does have a characteristic of putting themselves and the fans through torture, so I would expect a dash or two more of it somehow.

I think it's more likely than not that they'll finish the job from here, but it still has to be finished.

Yeah going to that final with the league won would make all the difference. It's a little crap not being able to fully enjoy the build up because even against Atletico there was just that feeling that crazily this wasn't even Arsenal's biggest game of the week arguably. Would be great to go out and get a couple of early goals against Burnley but the sad thing is we have seen repeatedly that Arsenal struggle to make their pressure periods count on the scoreboard.

I genuinely feel like the way Arsenal are playing these days just sums up the desperation from top to bottom to just win something. Have this weird feeling that getting over the line just frees everyone up to enjoy it all again, including the players. Use some of the windfall to just invest in a couple of attacking players and get back to a better style of play. If Arsenal could be more devastating and unpredictable up front (a bit like they were that first season with Jesus etc), you are looking at an incredible team.

The last time Arsenal retained the top flight title was 1935........

Let's hopefully get to enjoy this season's title first before we start taking about doing it again. We've still got 2 games to go, one away to Palace and Conference League final or no Conference League final, that's gonna be one hell of a tough match. This is so far from over yet.

The real challenge is actually not the opponents imo, its the mental pressure to deliver, overcoming that hurdle will be the real test. Nerves will 100% be at an all time high for most of our players and managing that to a level their performance is not hampered will decide where we end up.

Im Confident we'll win both, but we won't be comfortable in either game i suspect.

I'm not getting carried away as one draw could ruin it. However we should be beating Burnley handy enough at home even if they played well enough at the weekend. The Palace game away is hard to gauge as they might have their eye on the Conference Final and might rest players. I think Palace will know their team for that final in advance of our game too. Both Burnley and Palace could do what West Ham did yesterday and play everyone behind the ball and they could be hard to break down.
