    Par4success.com

He was on the mindcaddie podcast in February and had a code at the time for a free consultation on mobility which I assume would then lead to a program. Spoke a good bit about using tennis balls to free up muscle movement.

Code at the time was www.par4success.com/mindcaddie

Not sure if it still works.

Tread carefully with chatgpt. I work with an online coach who has a personalised diet and a training plan that's tweaked as we need it. I ran a physique assessment on chatgpt with a recommended plan and nutrition and it was way off. To the untrained eye it might seem like a solution but when you get into the detail it was fairly basic

Mike in RAPID physio, west Dublin. He worked in the TPI centre in Texas with a few big names in the golfing world. The exercise/strength exercises I got were all home ones, I just needed to pick up some resistance bands.

I generally looking for more distance (Just with driver) but mainly more strength & mobility. I used to do cross fit regularly but since the kids came along I havent time to do both (Golf & Gym) I found the reviews on some of the apps interesting now the keep coming up on my feed 😂

I did pay €500 last summer for a online golf physio who turned out to be based in Australia lol.. I enjoyed it but was only for 12 weeks and way to expensive imo

Regular stretching and bodyweight movements (especially squatting) will definitely help mobility and all round strength. I'm massively sceptical of golf specialist physio's or trainers and the prices they charge for generic workouts.

Hence there reason for an app as there cheaper

I’d agree with the above comment on a specialist assessment, it’s like YouTube golf videos just doing a general program with no idea if it suits you. Or is going to help at all with any specific issues you have. Most of them won’t do any real harm, but may not be any help either. Say if you have poor mobility in one shoulder for example, some exercises just make your better one better further imbalancing you. Im always impressed with the tpi videos with pros and most of them have specific movement issues and specific joints that need addressing even with their own trainers for years.

What could be the reason for a GUI h/cap being X and a club h/cap being X+3 ?

Both track up and down, the cushion remaining at 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,097 ✭✭✭coillcam

I think you mean course handicap rather than club and WHS index rather than GUI.

Your WHS index is your "true" handicap. However the course handicap is dependent on the difficulty of the course.

The course rating and slope are entered in a calculation with your WHS index to give you a course handicap.

Depending on the tees played your course handicap can vary plus or minus a 1-3 strokes.

    More info here: https://www.golfireland.ie/handicap-system

Thanks for clarifying. So if say 10 players have a WHS index of X, they should have an identical course handicap of X plus or minus 1 to 3 strokes. My question is how can one of these 10 players have a different course handicap to the other 9 if everything else is equal ? (Same course rating, slope, tees )

You mentioned Fit for Golf earlier. The owner, Mike, is from Cork and based in USA. He has been on a golf podcast I listen to (Chasing Scratch) several times. He comes across very well and his stuff on YouTube is good.

    Probably worth checking him out.

Think its the decimal points you don't see. Rounding 0.49 to 0.5 which would give a different outcome to someone who is 0.44 even though you would see both as 0.4

  • Administrators Posts: 56,565 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

I think all WHS indexes are rounded to 1 decimal place.

  • Administrators Posts: 56,565 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

It can vary more than 3 strokes. I don't believe there's any limit.

  • Administrators Posts: 56,565 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Two players with the identical WHS indexes, playing the same course, off the same tees, in the same competition (or general play), should have indentical playing handicaps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,894 ✭✭✭Gandalph

The number they give us is rounded to 1 decimal place but the actual calculations are to exact value afaik.

The Golf Ireland app has got a major overhaul.

There is a section now to see your statistics, things like driving accuracy etc, was that always there? I wonder how they plan to get that sort of data.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭paulos53

You have to enter the stats data yourself and can only be done on rounds played since the app update.
It is far from perfect but fine for a free feature. The club selection option is missing some clubs, it doesn't handle a scratched hole too well etc.
If you want info like FIR, GIR and to see which side you are missing on then it is fine

There was yet another issue with Club V1 again today so couldn’t top up my account to enter Competiton at my club today. Assistant in shop just said to fill in card and if computer was still down after round, just sign my card put card in box in the locker room. I see now my account had topped up and Competiton entry deducted later this evening. I presume my score will have to be manually entered by club and will then show on my Golf Ireland record ? I had a decent score and will result in a cut for me so want it on my record.

excuse the ignorance but which one is the Golf Ireland app?

    Is that the BRS App??

and while we're on the subject I was trying to get to see my last 20 roundrounds & 8 counting roundrounds on the brs link from my clubs website and can't see how to find it there, Would anyone have any pointers to this data and /or any good tips re tracking & /or analysing it , etc, etc???

    all info greatly appreciated

The golf Ireland app, Search for it on the playstore.

    Free Palestine 🇵🇸

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭JIdontknow

golf Ireland app is separate to the BRS app. Download the golf Ireland app and set it up and you’ll see all your rounds, you can add friends to see their rounds, check handicap on other courses etc.

A question for anyone in the know.

How is the Stroke Index of individual holes calculated? Is it just based on somebody's opinion of which is hardest and ranked accordingly or is there some mathematical equation involved?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,562 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

Generally based on stats from previous rounds played

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭JIdontknow

golf Ireland clubhouse can also generate a report based on all the scores entered over a period of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,189 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Its basically scoring. I remember the HDID site used to show the average scoring per hole in each competition (it may still do), and generally you'll find that it tends to track.

Most clubs should re-index every couple of years. Like my home club this year switched 4 holes on the front 9.

    1st and 5th, and 7th and 9th were switched

  • Administrators Posts: 56,565 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Yea but it's not purely based on score because they do distribute the indexes over the 18 holes, usually with even numbered indexes being one 9 and odd numbered indexes being the other 9.

So index 3 might actually score worse than index 2 (i.e. might be harder), but it's a higher index just for distribution.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,189 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Yes, most courses split odd/even, but I don't think thats mandatory?

And I know that there are general guidelines around how you should attempt to distribute the spread of indices too.

I dunno if it's mandatory to do odds/evens but I think it's mandatory to do some sort of distribution.

I am pretty sure you can't just look at the scoring and index them exactly as the data suggests (unless it's naturally distributed I guess!).
