In fairness if he does want to play a different style of game wouldn't that be more down to needing better/different players to play it rather than pivoting now to how he wants to play?

Not really. Try it now, see who works and doesn't work. It's why I want to see dorgu given a go at left back.

The performances of Amad have been extremely disappointing this season. He was been below average in a lot of games. Poor again today. He will need to really buckle down before next season if he is going be getting the minutes he has been.

Mitten also interviewed Carrick recently and he said he’s playing how he wants to play right now.

Brutal performance yesterday. Our midfield is in dire need of improvement.

Cunha is a frustrating watch. At times so good, and other days contributes nothing.

Mbeumos dip in form a concern too.

This squad has no chance of handling the added challenge of CL games next season. Serious investment needed

Results and points total since Carrick has taken over is brilliant but so many red flags individually and throughout our team performances.

2 of Amorims favourites Mbeumo and Amad have massively regressed under Carrick.

    Cunha hasn’t kicked on.

Despite all the hype about Mainoo he has had a total of 4 or 5 decent games all season and really poor yesterday although he had little to no support.

Heaven dropped despite being one of our most promising in the last few games.

I could go on Mount ,Zirkzee should be game for action but no interest either.

Shaw despite playing every game is a shadow of what he was and needs replacing.

Midfield needs huge investment not just taking a chance on some of the cheaper options that might come good down the line.

I’m very undecided on Carrick despite the good results.

What I’m hoping for with this CL qualification is that players come that will eliminate the issues we have when we have to rest our best 11.

I’m very sure we all have our players we’d like to see on that train to bye-bye come summer, but players like Ugarte and Zirkzee must go for me. Absolute rubbish that very rarely had any sunshine on their very rainy days at OT.

I agree with the ability to react our best eleven. I would also hope that at least one or two of the players that come in will be part of the best eleven hopefully we get rid of 2/3 of that squad and maybe 2/3 of the youth team can make the step up to game time substitutes..... if they don't we need to change our thinking on the youth set up

Zirkzee, Malacia, Ugarte and Casemiro definitely gone for me, coupled with a midfield overhaul with possibly a new manager also. The changes need to come quickly this summer, cant be hanging on until august if we've any hope of pushing on

Sounds like it's happening in the background

I would say there is an almost 0% chance the manager changes in the summer now. It will basically only happen now if Carrick decides to not take it IMO.

I hope we can find buyers for Ugarte and Zirkzee but I suspect it will be clubs looking for loans. Have a feeling one if not both still be here after the summer.

We were able to reduce the squad slightly due to no European football but that needs to be rebuilt this summer.
Demote players from the 1st team to being the backup and buy to replace the 1st team players, the likes of Shaw, Dalot etc..

We won't have a perfect squad come September but there needs to be a big step up this summer if there is any hope of becoming a team that gets CL every year.

Anyone else get the impression that with CL and almost certainly 3rd secured, they’ve switched off and Carrick is just giving lads a run?

Badly need 2 decent CM players, 2 wing backs, a backup striker and a pacy winger for next season at the minimum.

Have to say too, breaking the bank and taking a gamble on Iraola wouldn’t be the worst idea.

I honestly don’t think anyone was taking it easy …. I think yesterday’s performance showed just how weak our squad is in general and how vulnerable we are without Casemiro. I hope whoever’s responsible for our recruitment were paying attention.

I think its likely a combination of all things. Yes our squad is poor, yes they had an off day yesterday and yes some of them probably feel like the season is over now that CL is secured.

I still reckon we need a Champions League proven manager for next season.

However I would attach a condition that Carrick be kept on as Assistant Manager.

    This too shall pass.

Yep I’d agree with that - shop window stuff is easier when they are playing.

Don't see why Carrick would would agree to stay on as an assistant manager tbh.

I didn't see a whole lot different yesterday to how a lot of games under Carrick have gone being honest. We just didn't nick a goal yesterday but other than that is was largely the same. Surrender possession and drop deep. It's been the same nearly every game since he took over.

Rooney has talked about being open to coaching roles but only if United or Everton came calling. But he's coming from a position of failed stints as manager and likely not gonna get offers in management.

Carrick has had a very successful stint managing United. Said when Carrick took this job his view was hoping this role opens the door to management jobs that probably wouldn't come his way. Whether he actually gets the job full-time or another PL offer comes his way. Maybe gets offered the West Ham job if relegated and no PL offers come.

They definitely will have their hands full this summer earning their paychecks. Not only do you need to find the right person to fill his boots in CM but you also need to find a way of making up the goals he's scored this season.

Watching that match yesterday I'd put money on Casemiro finishing the league season as our second best goal scorer this season. And thats also not including the depth that will be needed in midfield to support Mainoo and new CM or making us more effective in attack from FB.

Rooney for a attacking coach for Sesko in front of goal would be a good shout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭kyleman

Apparently he already has Berbatov so hardly needs another attacking coach in Rooney.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,440 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Really didnt know that, no complaints there if true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭kyleman

Probably more of a mentor than a full time coach.

Reported that he spoke to him adding aggression and movement to his game but had also done training sessions with him.

I'm kinda on the fence re Carrick. I'd have concerns around the drop-off in form of our wide players since xmas. Whatever system Carrick has going doesnt seem to be getting the best out of them. We seem to be back relying on individual moments of brilliance from Bruno which isnt sustainable for next season. That'd be my concern around Carrick.

Ugarte, Zirkzee, Mount, Martinez, Malacia all need to be moved on during the summer. All bar Martinez offer zero to the squad and Martinez fitness and recent brain farts are problematic.

Rashford, Hojlund, Onana will be gone too.

That's enough cash coming in to add quality to the first team and bolster the squad. Added to that a couple of academy players and we'll be okay.

Next season. Top 4 finish, a cup win and a reasonable run in CL and I'd be very happy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,099 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Malacia is out of contract and would have been gone in January if Dorgu didn't get injured. And honestly whose going to take Mount? He's here unfortunately until his contract expires in two years.

Despite missing that chance, M.Fernandes looks some player. Big, quick, physical but also very composed. West Ham were using him like Bruno as their quarterback at the end.

Would take him a million times over before Baleba, particularly now that WHA are going down. Fear Liverpool will snap him up.

Rashford with a superb free kick to put a Barca hand the La Liga title in a Clasico. His value might have gone up with that.
