I would always microwave it, but if you're using the oven you'd need to seal it well to avoid it drying out. And maybe add a bit of milk? (I'm only guessing there, never tried that)

I find this the best mash. Add your own butter, seasoning or whatever. Its plain, nothing added. And good value. I can get 4 single portions out of it for 2 euro.

It has cream, butter, salt and white pepper added no?

Look, proper mash should be just enough potatoes to carry all the cream and butter. If you have floury enough potatoes you may get the magical 1:1:1 ratio.

    Anything else is just spuds.

Be sure to have good medical insurance if having this regularly!!!, exercise is not enough.

Back on topic, the tubes of garlic, chilli, ginger, lemongrass etc. are just the ticket to supercharge stir fry or quick curry.

I used to love the 9 pack of sausages they did, much nicer than the supposed Superquinn sausages 12 pack knock off. But now they seem to have changed the recipe and they have a strong smell and taste of garlic. Ingredients on the back confirms this. Mad how they can mess things up so badly. Last time I'll be buying them sadly

    Garlic you say 😋

They also do actual garlic sausages for those so inclined. This style sausage should absolutely not have garlic in it

Am big fan of fresh mash from fridge section. Always microwave, I remove cellophane top and put own microwave lid on. Stop half way and fork over a bit then at end a good bit of butter. If only one portion you can do half amount adjusting times a bit. Also use this to top a cottage pie when can go in oven with a bit of cheese on top to brown.

Can't find the post but whoever mentioned this bar before - 🫡🫡.

My goodness, it's delicious. Nearly didn't spot it the other day because it wasn't on the sweeties aisle, it was on the middle shelves that has mostly branded stuff.

I know it says brownie but I thought it might be biscuit inside. But it's actually soft brownie texture, inside a thick slab of chocolate bar🤤. It says there's gooey chocolate sauce too but I can't see or taste that. Maybe it melted into the brownie to keep it soft, idk, but eitherway it's still lovely.

Picked up two of these in my local place last night: https://www.aldi.ie/product/butchers-selection-irish-pork-fillet-000000000000387821

€2.99. Wondering what the catch is, other than potential sh*te quality, for that price. Haven't gotten around to cooking them yet. Seems ridiculous value if they're half way decent.

Nothing wrong with them. We get the cajun marinated one. We make pulled pork baps + home made chips. Tasty.

They’re amazing value and are excellent if cooked properly, cook it to medium using a temperature probe and it’ll be tender and juicy.

Those are the ones I always get. They're usually slightly more expensive but on offer to €2.99 a lot. They usually have a long shelf life on them too.

We usually get 2 and use the middle of both, stuff and roll together with some fatty or streaky bacon and tie it up for a roast. There's usually a bit leftover for a few sandwiches too after feeding 2 adults and 2 teens. I use the top and bottom then for a pork stirfy after trimming the fat for the dog.

Cooked properly, it's probably my 2nd favourite cut of any meat after a juicy rib eye.

These are my new favourite cheap burgers to have in the freezer for when Im lazy, absolutely lovely for anyone nostalgic for the BirdsEye burgers we had as kids (BirdsEye burgers still available but now they're tiny, cost a fortune and smell like dogfood)

Nit a recommendation but I’d avoid the fig rolls. I’ve bought the Lidl ones and enjoyed those but the Aldi equivalent were fairly tasteless and also overly browned yet there was no crispness to the pastry. Just a crumbly tastelessness. Felt like a failed batch if I’m honest but they obviously passed QA so must be what’s intended.

I had the same question about batces passing QC control. I like Aldi and Lidl food, i mainly buy fresh produce. But twice last year, I bought the Aldi brand mutipack crisps. The first multipack bag, I think there were 10 small packs .. every single one of the 10 bags were open, as if the seal failed under slight pressure. I threw them out, they were all stale. A few months later, I picked up another multipack, the exact same issue. Aldi must not be keeping a close eye on some suppliers. I didnt bother complaining, i just wont get them again.

I worked for a producer to customers like Aldi and other supermarkets for 9 years. Once the initial spec is approved, one of the ways that quality is continually monitored is by the consumer complaints system.

The complaints and their corrective actions are shared between the customer and the producer and are very much in focus.

At the producer there are daily panels that sample product and packaging internally to catch non conformances, and occasional customer audits looking at the whole process.

But it's very beneficial for consumers to complain through the right channels to maintain product standards.

Hello Eeshaw. That is insightful. What, for my info, is the proper channel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭Eeshaw

Look on the pack to contact the producer's customer service, or to the supermarket customer service. To the supermarket often carries more weight as they will expect an answer quickly from the producer.

My last complaint was to direct to Yorkshire Tea via email. They were very helpful.

I saw these in the store- while I’m sure they’re very nice, €4.99 for a 200g Aldi chocolate bar is too much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,848 ✭✭✭barneygumble99

either 4.49 or 4.99 I forget. Saw them yesterday. Just too expensive for me tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭road_high

same- they’re €4.99! I saw them this evening- too much for an Aldi branded small enough bar. I’m sure they’re very nice but I wouldn’t pay that either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,583 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

It is very expensive for a chocolate bar. I didn't even look at the price in store and only found out how much i.paid when I later checked online 🥴.

Tbh, it really was very very tasty so it was worth it.. But I don't think I'd pay it again.

(Although, I said the same about the Dubai chocolate bars aswel. Too expensive but I loved them & did end up buying them a couple of time again 💸😅)
