Aged 16 I worked in the Deli in Dunnes stores. I reckon all the supermarkets in your city or town are looking for people.

Where in the country are you?

I’m looking mainly for the south side county Dublin.

As i said, check out, pun intended, every supermarket in your area. I'm sure a few of them are looking for someone.

yeah I checked they are looking for people and I did check places. Plenty of managers came to me saying because there’s alcohol in the shop they can’t have me there which I think is just an excuse😂

Well as I said i was working in the deli at 16, but keep looking.

    Check out Lidl and Aldi:

Yes, Lidl Ireland employs 16-year-olds, but with specific limitations

. They can work as Warehouse Operatives, but generally, they cannot work as Customer Assistants (store staff) because that role requires selling alcohol, which necessitates being 18 or older.

my kids found it v hard under 18 - try mcdonalds and penneys, coffee shops and any hotels, supermarkets will all be 18+

people will tell you call in person, then the shops will send them off again to apply online, it's v hard getting the first one

The truth is the vast majority of 16 year olds are not ready for the workplace. You can work in a supermarket and on the tills just you cannot serve alcohol. Source my wife was supermarket manager for one of the large chains. The real problems are mobile phones and knowing their rights without the responsibilities. The manager doesnt want to work out if you are good or not, too much time and effort.

Better off try McDonalds. Now I am no fan of the Golden Arches food but they look great on a CV, "this guy knows how to work without giving lip", "time to lean, time to clean" attitude.

Still having problems? Work in a charity shop for 3 months for a reference. You may have to as part of the UN sustainable goals to have it on your CV. Maynooth University have a module in it.

Best of luck you are a shining inspiration.

What about cleaning windows, it’s almost impossible to get a reliable one who will come every month or so. All you need is a ladder and bucket. Charge 20/30 squids per house and do at least one an hour.

not just a ladder and bucket, he will also need a car to go around. what happens when he fell, is it your house insurance to cover that

Possibly although if he concentrated on one estate he wouldn't need a car. TBH, me and a friend did it from aged 14 - 16 on summer and Easter hols when we were too young to get proper jobs, stuck to the houses we could walk to with a ladder carried between us. It's a good few years ago but ladders are much lighter now so any 16 yr old could easily carry an aluminium ladder.

I've had window cleaners on and off over the years and never asked to see an insurance cert.

A petrol lawnmower and suburbia is your oyster. Lots of elderly and working people looking to not have to mow their lawns. Put it up on the local facebook groups and keep your regular customers happy.

Lawnmowing is a great idea, a few of my neighbours are using a local guy that calls regularly, I’ll be looking for him in another couple of years.

I think it's a shame a 16 year old is facing such problems getting a part time job. I started working at 16 in 1976 and it was a great learning curve for the future. Any job - even a part time one requires a lot of discipline and commitment that should be learned earlier than 18.
