why would you not challenge in the air against a jump in their 22 there?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,632 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

In my defence they'd just conceded another try! Great comeback. Great game.

    damn,what a turn of events

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 33,954 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

I feel like high tackles simply shouldn't exist when a player is going for the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,288 ✭✭✭ironingbored

Unlucky. Was going high on the ball but you can't argue he didn't make contact with head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 922 ✭✭✭HanShotFirst

    That is a sickner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,706 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

fair call, thought he might have some mitigation for initial contact, but can't have any arguments on the penalty try. missed kicks costly in the end.

correct call but incredible play from Doak to hold him up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭Canyon86

Sickened for Doak that was some covering for the try

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,377 ✭✭✭bingobango12

That’s a sickener for Ulster. Probably the correct call but a tough one to take.

They are behind Cardiff in the table with equal points but have won one less game. A Connacht win tomorrow and I presume they will need to go strong next week to try get a win vs Glasgow.

Sickened for Doak there. Had a terrific game. Has to be no. 2 to JGP. His kicking is something else too....

Great performance heading into Montpellier in a couple of weeks. Stormers livelier than the French.

Hard for Leinster Lions and Connacht Munster to match this but what an end to the league phase.

    Well done Ulster...very impressive....

The Stormers mean business and are going balls out for Home games all the way on this tour....

Cardiff havent a hope against them next week....

So I predict that Cardiff will remain on 50 points which wont be enough for top 8 as Connacht will get past them in the end....

No one can clinch top 2 now this weekend, because of that result.

Also likely keeps Connacht at least mathematically still in the hunt to the final day, with any result other than a loss to Munster.

not a disastrous result for Ulster with being down to 14 for 20 minutes and missing players like Baloucoune, McCloskey, Hume, Stockdale, herring and McCann (& also Mcnabney/Moore).

Stormers have some outstanding players, particularly their 9-10-12.

In my head there was something about the ball carrier chicken winging a while back, being an offence. It looked like ball carrier lead with their forearm which would be the first offence and negated the head contact

For any Irish side facing the stormers in the play offs, always tackle and hold the 10 SFM. He nearly always dummies the pass and will always try to get up from a tackle.

He's a fantastic player who backs himself every single break, rather than distribute

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,462 ✭✭✭FtD v2

I think stylistically SFM is the closest 10 I can remember to Dan Carter. Obviously not saying he’s even close to that level, but he’s fantastic to watch.

Really excellent performance from Ulster last night against a quality Stormers side. Lots of great performances: thought Izuchukwu was really physical, Augustus was superb, McIlroy looks a new player at 13 and Doak was immense.

He was hugely unfortunate with the late decision; think Richie Murphy was right when he said that sort of tackle is happening 10 times a game in other parts of the field and not being called.

Real shame for Henderson that he’ll likely miss the Challenge Cup Final now; he more than anyone up there deserved the chance to lead them out in Bilbao, but he can have no complaints, it was a shocking clear out.

Away to Edinburgh is a very tricky fixture for Connacht not guaranteed any points. Tomorrow is a must win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,462 ✭✭✭FtD v2

I’d generally be more confident beating Edinburgh away than Munster anywhere.

In reality - if they can’t go and get a result in Edinburgh, they’ve no business in the playoffs anyway, but I’d be very confident they’ll get it done.

Henderson very well may have cost Ulster the game and the final in two weeks. Really disastrous for Ulster. Was a great game though, enjoyed every minute of it.

Did the TMO take it on himself to review the final tackle? I don't think anybody on the pitch thought it was a high tackle.

It's a bit sickening after the Bath game last week and people insisted they were all correct calls.
