I don't think there's anything Munster management can do here that'll make anything better. Every option they have doesn't look good.

They will eventually have to answer questions on what happened but doing nothing publicly and just focusing on the rugby at the moment looks like the better option. They still have to fill the position, who knows how McMillan is feeling, and what's going to happen with Randle's coaching career. The Chiefs haven't said if they'll take him back or not yet so there's a lot of questions that they don't even know the answer to yet.

Well lads. Desperate for two adult tickets for Saturday if anyone has them. Will happily pay face value

Munster team to face Connacht on Saturday evening

No JJ or Beirne makes it a far more difficult task.

Ya, that's not ideal. Strong enough pack (excluding TH) and good to see Bartley on the bench

No Crowley is a blow again

I bought mine last week or the week before, they didn't sell out overly fast

Had thought the word on Crowley was positive. Hopefully just precaution and he’ll be good to go for the rest of the season.

They said he was available for selection earlier in the week. Which doesn't seem great.

Why would they swap Nankivell and Kelly? Nank has been playing great stuff beside the 10.

No but I'm assuming both teams have injuries and agreed to postpone the game

Compulsory redundancy on the way as the voluntary ones didn't get enough applications

Considering everything that has happened and reading these quotes I'm guessing Randle is going to leave at end of season unless something drastic changes with coaches (attack) & players (NIQ).

“Very early on, I communicated to the Irish Rugby and our boards and our players that if I’m not the right person to lead this team forward, then people can make that decision and I’ll accept it.

“You’ll need to speak to those people around how they feel about it, but I feel a huge sense of loyalty to our players who are looking to me in pressure situations to understand what my position is. I have their back the same way that they have my back.

“Now, I think there’s still a bit of water to run under the bridge. There are things that people are going to reflect on and I encourage that because there are changes that I think need to be made to give me I guess the confidence that I have the support to be able to do the job that’s needed.

I’m fully committed to the team until the end of the season. There’s no doubt about that. Other people might make a decision around whether I’m next year or the year after.

“If that’s what people decide, if I’m not the best person to lead this team forward, that will be their decision. But I don’t walk away from a fight easily. There are plenty of people in this building who, I believe, want me to stay here and believe in the direction that we are heading.

“To walk away would feel like I’m letting them down,” he added.

I wouldnt be surprised if he's given the IRFU an ultimatum on what coaches he now wants and what NIQ players he wants.

Im sure IRFU will be removing the CEO but will they be able to satisfy McMillan?

It reads to me like he's intending on staying, but that it may not be his decision. Especially this quote.

But I don’t walk away from a fight easily. There are plenty of people in this building who, I believe, want me to stay here and believe in the direction that we are heading.

“To walk away would feel like I’m letting them down,” he added.

I dunno. Equally I feel like he is setting them up for an impossible situation - it seems like basically a "don't do anything like this again or I'm gone" and I'm not sure they can give him that level of freedom. It is just not how the Irish system works.

Anyway, in other news this doesn't sound great

“Jack Crowley has just got an unusual injury where he's losing a little bit of strength in his leg. It's kind of a neural thing, so he could be running around free as a bird, feel nothing, and then the next day it feels like a dead leg,” McMillan said.

“So we just weren't prepared to roll the dice with him this week, even though it's a big game. We have a lot of faith in JJ Hanrahan. It's familiar territory for him so we don't lose anything in that regard.

Yes thats why I put that in bold.

“To walk away would feel like I’m letting them down,” he added.

But he's really saying unless you (IRFU / Munster or Both) make-

"changes that I think need to be made to give me I guess the confidence that I have the support to be able to do the job that’s needed."

-Im going; because I cant now do the job thats needed.

    What are those Changes?

To me thats - Splash the cash and get me:

    1. Top end attack coach that I now want

Can Munster do that financially? Or will the IRFU have to do it financially? Can they? And would they?

    and I'm only guessing at the next one because it would fully constitute "Changes";

    2. 1 (or maybe 2) very good NIQ that I now want

    See above

IRFU might just say 'sorry, but we cant do that.'

Can munster / IRFU afford TWO contract pay offs??

That would be a really terrible look in the face of compulsory redundancies.

Personally i hope he stays. Hes a very good coach who doesn't put up with bullshit. The question will be if the structure around him is put in place to his satisfaction. Mossey lawler is a far step down from jason holland unfortunately if hes given teh attack coaching role, and especially if he ends up doubling up with his skills responsibilities as well.

Do they have to pay him off if he's the one that wants to do runner?

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 45,404 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

why would he quit when he could negotiate a contract break "by mutual consent" as always happens in these situations??

hes contracted for another 2 seasons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,094 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Or tell him put his big boy pants on and get on with his job or quit if he's not fully committed and do away with this by mutual consent BS.

If Clayton isn't here next season it's because Clayton wants to leave not because the IRFU/Munster feel he should leave.

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 45,404 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

If Clayton isn't here next season it's because Clayton wants to leave not because the IRFU/Munster feel he should leave.

and thats pretty much the exact opposite of whats being reported.

But I don’t walk away from a fight easily. There are plenty of people in this building who, I believe, want me to stay here and believe in the direction that we are heading.

“To walk away would feel like I’m letting them down,” he added.

“Very early on, I communicated to the Irish Rugby and our boards and our players that if I’m not the right person to lead this team forward, then people can make that decision and I’ll accept it.

so whats being reported is he says he wants to stay and that if he doesnt stay it down other people making that decision.

so yea, impressively, its the exact opposite of what you are saying.

Maybe Munster Rugby will just fire him, without an explanation to the fans or a replacement lined up, 6 weeks into next season. Kinda like what they did to Rowntree

    well… there is form ……

i think this whole clusterfcuk is going to be the downfall of Flanagan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,785 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

I'm surprised he hasn't been given his marching orders yet to be honest, although who would be the person to fire him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,018 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

Not only that, I'd go as far as saying I think this whole clusterfcuk HAS to be the downfall of Flanagan.

wouldn’t agree there ….he can feel rightly let down on this whole charade …the buck stops with Flanagan and Costello…they have to go .of McMillan goes Munster rugby could turn into a complete basket case ..what top coach or player would want to come here
