Is winning your provincial title now reward in itself??

3pm in Saturday in Killarney on GAA+

Losing a provincial final gets the same reward.

Provincial finals are now not regarded any differently by the powers that be than U12 Go Games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,660 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

**** the powers that be every player should want to win their provincial championship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,965 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

Of course they should, but it should be recognised as an achievement in the championship series worthy of recognition.

Now it has the status as far as the championship is concerned of a game that never happened.

Saturday approaching and still all quiet. If Langan is available I give Donegal a good chance of beating Kerry but without him I fear a beating and short summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,660 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

No idea what to expect. Even without Langan, we might never have a better chance of beating Kerry in a Championship game in Killarney.

Both teams surely want to win. While losing isn't fatal, it means you definitely need a 2nd match to make a QF. Add to that, Kerry won't want to lose at home and will surely want to prove the league final was a fluke. Donegal would want to deliver a performance after the shitshow v Down.

No Thompson it seems so I hope we have a plan for frees on the right.

Won't it be something if P Clifford doesn't play and we're still in the dark as to how we'll address one of the many issues from the All Ireland defeat.

2 dummy teams named. Certainly can't see Donegal starting with that 15.

    1. Gavin Mulreany
    2. Caolan McColgan
    3. Brendan McCole
    4. Peadar Mogan
    5. Ryan McHugh
    6. Eoghan ‘Ban’ Gallagher
    7. Finnbarr Roarty
    8. Caolan McGonagle
    9. Hugh McFadden
    10. Sean Martin
    11. Shane O’Donnell
    12. Ciáran Moore
    13. Conor O’Donnell
    14. Michael Murphy
    15. Shea Malone
    16. Shaun Patton
    17. Stephen McMenamin
    18. Jamie Brennan
    19. Max Campbell
    20. Daire Ó Baoill
    21. Jason McGee
    22. Oisin Gallen
    23. Paul O’Hare
    24. Turlough Carr
    25. Kieran Gallagher
    26. Michael Langan

A win over Kerry in Kerry is good not withstanding the red card. Nice to see more fire in the belly this time. I didn't see the alleged incident with McGuinness pushing a Kerry player. If so, what will be the punishment? David Clifford a lucky boy to escape a red card. Cameras everywhere now and as the incident wasn't dealt with will there be retrospective action taken against McGuinness or Clifford?

Mike Quirke on the saturday game last night doing his best to get Mc Guinness a ban for defending his players, what a tool.Should have been a second Kerry player keeping Burns company on the sideline yesterday! Camera never lies.

Agreed. I ended up with predominantly Kerry supporters. I met some lovely people, but one woman was roaring at the players to "give them a good wallop" (Kerry supporter), and the Kerry team on the pitch were no less aggressive. David Clifford was also inclined to throw his shoulder out approaching the Donegal players looking for a free. Very cynical play, tbf. Im also surprised there weren't more red cards. They would have been well deserved.

Well Mike Quirke and Denis Walsh amongst others must be very disappointed that the CCCC have deemed that no further punishments are required. Trying to equate what Jim did with what Ger Brennan did was laughable but I expect nothing else from certain pundits.

Great news. I reckon the GAAs poster boy image meant that McGuinness couldn't be charged.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭babybuilder

I'm no fan of Jim's post match interviews but the level of vindictiveness has been unreal. Especially 'Soupy' Campbells unsolicited outburst. Didn't expect any different from Armagh supporters celebrating Kerry's win as if it were theeir

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,965 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

Call me an old cynic, but after we accepted our one match suspensions for two players for the first round of Ulster in 2022 and four from Armagh walked away scot free after appeals where we were still left not being able to play Neil McGee or Odhran McFadden-Ferry, Jim would have been handed a twelve weeks suspension but they could not do it without a minimum two match suspension for David Clifford.

I actually had to watch the Ger Brennan one back. Absolutely ridiculous the amount trying to equate the 2 actions and then of course nothing to see here with cliffords elbow.

It was a great performance, was a tad worried the half time lead was a bit small given the breeze, I dont think the extra man made the size difference people say. We had shown a few times in the league a game plan to handle into the breeze, we picked kerry apart when the pressed and them mostly sitting inside their 40arc created scoreboard pressures for them.

Delighted langan made it for the game, Gallen showing form. Was it Brolly made a meal of players making their (championship debut) claiming it was embarrassing for kerry but its where our squad is at given the players who stepped away. And they made great contributions

Don't really care how or why he got away with whatever he did, but glad Jim avoided suspension.

Glad also that we played to win and got the win on Saturday. Showed that Down was an off day. It's very hard to read much into the opposition performance given the players missing/not fully fit and the red card. That's for another day, if we even meet them again this year.

Great to see Oisin Gallen back to his best. Hopefully more to come. Conor O'Donnell strangely quiet, can only assume he was well marked as a danger man. Mulraney had a bit of a wobble on kick outs, but recovered. If we don't see Ciaran Thompson the next day, it's hard to see him playing any part this year.

    We're back.

They're absolutely going crazy, the level of ignorance with regard to the actual facts is unbelievable, trying to compare the Brennan & McGuinness incidents as like for like, as the saying goes 'there's none so blind as those who will not see".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,180 ✭✭✭robbiezero

Or maybe they just went with the exact same protocol as they followed for the league final i.e. the ref dealt with it so they weren't going to take it any further and if they had how do they explain not doing it then.

The conspiracy theory stuff is hilarious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,660 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

I was able to watch the minors for the first time on Saturday. A pretty shocking scoreline on a dry day under new rules. McGuinness man marked out of the game. They play Dublin in the Tier 2 competition this weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,965 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

Two clear incidents with Clifford the referee hadn`t dealt with so why did they not look at that, or are they saying it`s ok now to whack a lad in the head with your elbow

Did you see him talking to Clifford after either ?

If he had of dealt with the first then I don`t see how Clifford would have avoided a straight red at half time for the second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,180 ✭✭✭robbiezero

He may have seen the incidents or partially seen them and thought nothing of them, who knows.

But I think what likely happened is the opposite to what people are saying about "golden boy getting protected so nothing could happen to McGuinness" as in

The McGuinness incident was mentioned in the report and thus considered "dealt with" (and surely it was) and once that happened, there was no way the CCCC were going after anyone else. I doubt the Clifford incidents were mentioned in the report - he either didn't see them or if he did, didn't think them worthy of any sanction - either way why would you include them in the report, so they possibly could have gone after Clifford or O'Donnell for the knee, but I reckon sensibly they decided not to open that can of worms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,965 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

If the McGuinness incident was mentioned in Hurson`s report as you say then it was dealt with at the time. If there was no mention of either of the Clifford incidents then how could they be looked at as dealt with ?

If anything with that scenario it smacks more of the golden boy getting protection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,180 ✭✭✭robbiezero

The golden boy stuff is nonsense, unless of course you can point to a glut of players being retrospectively punished for similar incidents by the CCCC - They simply don't tend to get involved, and especially not for incidents that are not in any way serious.

They could have got involved in the Michael Murphy incident in the league final, but chose not to, maybe he is a golden boy too.

Donegal did for a first round of Ulster in 2022 accepting suspensions on two players when reviewed where four from Armagh walked away scot free on appeals.

If you are correct on Hurson`s report satisfying the CCCC that no further action was required as regards McGuinness, and that neither of the two incidents with Clifford are mentioned, then what is the point of CCCC reviews if there are incidents that the referee`s report shows he didn`t deal with on the day ?
