"SECRETARY RUBIO: We’re asking the UN to call on Iran to stop blowing up ships, remove the mines, and allow humanitarian relief"

    Hang on a second!!

Iran were not doing any of this before Trump proceeded to bomb them.

Trump caused this. Why the **** is it the UN's responsibility to do anything whatsoever?

    The f**king audacity!

a mainstay of American conservatism is always always blame someone else. They don’t like consequences for their actions or words. There is zero chance that anyone in that administration will be accepting that they are to blame for their actions.

Iran should come out and say they are attacking narco terrorist boats, that's acceptable these days isn't it? I'm sure there's even alcohol on those ships!

Humanitarian relief, Christ above does he not see the irony with what the US is doing to Cuba.

Yeah, that's why I said we'd be dealing with it, and it'll take a generation to unwind the damage he's done. Believe me, I'm under no delusion here, but it has to start somewhere. At least the lid's off the whole rotten dumpster fire now, and everyone aside from his most committed personality cult followers can see this for what it is.

    F*** Hegseth, Trump or Leavitt.

    F*** Vance too.

They don't give a sh1t and will lie and bluster with no shame.

Rubio is a lot younger than Trump and is a politician, whatever you make of him as one, with political aspirations. You can see he is embarrassed by this farce.

This is a guy who has feet you can hold to the fire. He should be torched daily by the press.

Iran should just say "american ships leave the strait and it's back to the way it was before". That'd put the pressure on the Americans, but now that I type all that; I don't think the Americans really care about opening it without getting something like a 'win'

If a family member spoke to your kids like trump spoke this week it wouldn't be a small issue 😀

I see Trump as more of a symptom than a cause, so even when he does eventually go away, that's no guarantee that any of the factors in his rise will go with him. I don't even think there's any majority will to deal with those factors, like neo-liberal economics creating desperate lower classes, like a media landscape that prioritises dopamine hits and sensation over real reporting, like culture wars and like worship of celebrity, just to name a few. And if those factors are not properly dealt with, the powder stays dry for a Trump 2.0.

There seems to be this idea within the general political discourse that all the Trump stink can be cleaned up and things will just go back to the pre-2016 'normal' of a centre-centre-left Democrats vs centre-centre-right Republicans. It's literally never happening. The cat's out of the bag on that.

It should be remembered that Trump could be seen as the product of a patiently-constructed 40 year effort to radicalise Americans via conservative talk radio and a gradually increasing polarisation of American news media overall, with social media turning the whole thing into a firestorm. I hope it wouldn't take America as long to get rid of the mess, but I doubt it's a quick fix. The one mistake that should be made into the idea that it all starts with getting rid of Trump. There should be grassroots efforts to roll back the various conditions of which I mentioned a few that allow for a Trump in the first place, and that work can start today.

I am wrapping up a book about how big money corrupted America and the author never once questions the two-party system, GOP gerrymandering, the unaccountable and unelected Supreme Court, Congress, or the Constitution.

The system has been twisted by the right over the past half century and putting it back isn't the solution. It needs to be reformed for a more pluralistic, inclusive system and I say that as a resident of the UK which also has a crumbling two-party system.

The Democrats are just as committed to the system as the Republicans. Replacing the bad guy with a good guy is just the political equivalent of the good guy with a gun narrative. I fully expect this system to endure for quite some time unless Trump starts a nuclear war or something.

what’s the point in the UN carrying out the ‘straight forward ‘ task as detailed by ‘ boss , how high do you want me to jump Rubio when the UN got ‘blue in the face’ in trying to get aid into Gaza, etc , with the ‘BACKING ‘ ofthe US but it NEVER REALLY MATERiALISED in any realistic way . There was symbolic efforts made ok but the war continued and is still continuing

5 Trump-backed Republican primary challengers won in Indiana. 1 lost. Another (state senator Spencers Deerys seat) seat is too close to call.

Trump also trying to oust Republican Senator Bill Cassidy (Louisiana) and Rep. Thomas Massie (Kentucky). Trump is supporting a candidate called Julie Letlow in Louisiana.

I'd generally agree, yes. I've seen a theory that part of the underlying cause is that the US never dealt with it's racism and fascism problems, and what we're seeing today is just the natural outcome of that.

I don't think anybody is under the illusion that things can be quickly and easily reverted to the pre-2016 order, and you're absolutely correct that there's been a deliberate and extended build-up to this.

Wait….not that «rules» are something that Donnie & Co. ever really care about….but surely basing a corporate logo on what looks very like the Seal of the US President…isn’t allowed?

Could be looking at a costly rebrand down the road before they eventually drop the Trump name altogether.

No surprises if you guessed that the only other men who have had an airport named after them while they held power were authoritarians/dictators and monarchs. Never been done with a US president.

So, that's a major airport named after him.

Is trying to get his face on official passports.

Is getting his signature on the Dollar.

Has his face on the 'Trump Gold Card'

    Rules by edict.

Has silenced every major critic in his party.

Has installed personally-loyal people into various key positions of government.

And is definitely not a dictator?

The Miami Herald reported that the deal to name the airport after him also means the airport shops will be selling official Trump-licensed merchandise… which Trump gets a cut of.

It's always about the money. Always.

Is Trump keeping Rubio in line and reminding him who is boss by making him be a Press Secretary for a day?

Rumours are Vance is in for a stint, that should be amusing but I reckon Pete Pentagon will top the bill.

Trump is a lesson in 'watch what they do, not what they say'
