Tesla model 3 known issue out of warranty

    Hi

    I have a 2021 Tesla model 3 with 96,000km.

About a month ago loud squeaking from front right wheel area when turning or driving at low speed.

It's meant to be a known issue-premature failure of the front upper control arm (FUCA) ball joints. Water intrusion dries out the joint, leading to a "rusty hinge" sound. This is a well-known issue often covered under warranty.

Via app I got an estimate of €483 for repairs. Is there any chance of Tesla footing the bill as its a known issue, anyone had this issue outside of warranty & did you have to pay?

    Thanks in advance,

    Patrick

Did you know you could bring it in just before the 80k warranty period and have them replaced for nowt? Even if you didn't have an issue, you send it in and ask them for a "suspension inspection" and they seem to upgrade all cars that come in.

Knowing Tesla I think you have no chance of getting this covered out of warranty sadly.

Obviously tricky as you'd have to leave the car in the Cork service centre for the day, which would be a serious hassle for you.

    Too late i'd say.

Its a known issue with them on the earlier cars so if caught under warranty, it would have been replaced.

Its a basic mechanics job, garden DIY even. Get it done at a local independent for a quarter of the price or thereabouts.

Try get the parts yourself online and get an independent mechanic to fit them. The control arms can be bought for €75 or so and only take 1-2 hours to fit. So essentially you could get both sides done for less than what Tesla are quoting for one side
