We're all looking at this thread, and a similar one on Bargain Alerts, to see what the best deals out there are at all times. There should be no shock

i think even though i have a smart meter my plan is a regular D/N (DG1 NSAV BAFF Fixed Elec 18 Apr25 RN)

on that basis i think its still 00.00 to 09.00 for summer but ill call flogas to confim.

Are you on a standard day/night plan or a smart day/night plan?

Maybe it's different by supplier but with Energia it stays the same all year round on smart plans. When I was on a standard day/night with energia it changed.

By the time they answer, it will have changed back to 23:00 to 08:00

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,382 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

its std d/n as far as i know and if i look at my consumption on esbnetworks that d/n split tallys with 00.00 to 09.00 so that must be it!

If you are on an MCC02 / RM108 smart meter it shifts to 0000-0900 in summer, if you're not MCC02 and instead are MCC12/MCC16 the time slots don't shift.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,049 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

Yeah if it's std d/n then you should be on 00:00 to 09:00 now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,382 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

thanks i am MCC02 so i have it right at 00.00 to 09.00!

Are all the flogas offers knocked on the head?

Theres not much value out there atm. Just out of contract but theres very little between them as far as I can see.

Flogas still have offers, but nothing like what they had in 2025. Best of the bunch at the moment seems to be Energia, but that could be different again in June.

The consensus now seems to be that a smart meter is worth taking finally.

I've been running an electric car since Feb 2022 and have been very happy charging it using the night rate on a standard (non-smart meter) for ca. 11c-13c at night and between 22c and 24c during the day. I'm using a total of ca. 14000 units per annum on both the house and the car. Last week I installed a solar PV system and a modular Goodwe 16KWh battery system. I'm wondering should I stick with the standard meter for the foreseeable or is now the time to switch to a smart meter. I know if I stay with the standard meter I won't benefit from the feed-in tariff but the night rate still looks highly competitive to me. Tis all a bit discombobulating.

You can get a smart meter and stay on a standard plan if you want.

Currently the night rates on a smart meter plan are better than a non-smart plan, seems like the tipping point was finally reached in 2026.

Are they not only for a very short window?

I have a smart meter but d/n rates

    Current 26.6/12.75 Energia

    Renewal 35.07/16.82 Energia

    BGE 31.37/15.5

    Electric Ireland 32.17/15.87

I couldn't see better than that on any smart plan.

I'm using 14000 units p.a. and most of it is driving. I can't see any smart window that will charge an 84kwh battery to 100% from say 25% SoC... These new D/N non-smart tariffs are the worst I've ever seen and smart tariffs aren't improving anywhere near enough.

Electric ireland have a 2hr window at 9.9c I think it is.

When i went EV in 2017 the night rate was 6c all night. 28kw ioniq, the 77kw ev6, after a hard day, isn't full on night rate.

Energia had a 9 hour D/N smart plan for 29/14 three weeks ago. Achieved via a percentage discount, so of course that may have tightened up as the weeks went by.

The best non-smart plan they offered at the time was 32/15, so definitely they were edging customers towards Smart technology.

Two hours isn't worth curse to me. I'm on 24/12 atm with Flogas til October so we'll see.

    Sure that isn't 26/13?

That's what was expiring in March/April this year. By October last year that was well gone.

    I'd included vat by mistake.

What of credits are being built up on the feed in tariff during summer for? I wonder if the credit would balance out drawing from the grid in the darker months and thus make changing to a smart tariff more bearable.

I'm with Pinergy. Over the full year, my bill is about 1400 negative. A few times per year I ring them up or email them and they transfer my credit balance onto my bank accoun

My total electricity bill + my home heating gas bill + the fuel bill for all my cars is now about zero

During the summer months,I’m letting the solar system batteries drain from 11pm into the car and then it’s night rate for the following 7 hrs,so getting north of 50kw into the car for the price of around 37 to 40 depending on what was left in the solar batteries (15kw)at the start of the charge

Works well at this time of the year and it’s maybe done twice a week

    Very cheap motoring

@unkel. Looks good. What size battery are you running? I've 14 panels so about 6.7kwp.

At the moment 52kWh. But I change batteries quicker than some people change underwear 😅

Why do you drain the battery into the car? That costs 25c / kWh (Pinergy FIT). It is much cheaper to charge up with night rate at 6c / kWh (Pinergy) and sell excess electricity from your battery to the grid

We could do with a ticky on this because there are so many newbies making this mistake.
