If West Ham go down I’d like to see them go for Fernandes.

I’d also be looking a Bowen to bulk up the squad even at 29 he would offer a lot to the squad.

As tough as it's been for all the players who lost a friend and teammate in Jota, how weird must it have been for all the new recruits coming into that melancholic and mournful atmosphere.

Wirtz has been disappointing for sure, but tbh I've seen enough of what he can do to not worry about him in the medium/long term. He's gotten stronger since he joined, and I'm sure that'll continue (not least cause he's only 22, and clearly a brilliant pro). Get some cohesive consistency up front, and he'll build partnerships - he's always looked much better playing with Kerkez coming up on his left, and Ekitike ahead of him. The better he knows the players around him, the quicker he can pull off all those clever little through balls, and the more it all works.

There seems to be a number of Dutch players that we are being linked with in the press.

Whether it is bollox or not remains to be seen, but I'd there is any credence to it, then it might suggest slot staying.

We talk about new players and managers, but really the greater need would be in the coaching staff. Whilst the buck stops with Slot, the defensive and set piece coach needs a massive upgrade.

Looks like we will limp to Champions league football next season. Very important from a financial standpoint and for attracting players.

Seems so . It's not every day you lose against utd and still move up the table. :)

A good piece from Jonathan Wilson.

Slots future really depends on whether or not the club believe there is someone available who can do a better job. If they do, then we will find out quickly once the season finishes.

Some vague reports online tonight that Ajax have made contact with Slot to become there new manager.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,223 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Well-known Dutch journalist Mike Verweij has revealed that Ajax have enquired about Slot, but the Dutch giants have been told that he will not make the switch right now.

Verweij said on De Telegraaf ’s Kick-off podcast, as relayed by Soccernews.nl: “I was told once again that they also inquired about Arne Slot.

“Slot is still very firmly in the saddle; he is simply continuing at Liverpool.

“I also understood that Arne Slot is not very keen to go to Ajax at this point in his career.”

Can we take some pleasure in the fact Guehi has handed Arsenal the title?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,638 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

I'll never take any pleasure in seeing them take a title. 1989 still hurts.

I can take a lot of pleasure in City failing. 89 was a little too early for me but we might have 3 more league titles without City's financial doping.

The Liverpool based podcasts are all fed up and want him out pretty much. They don’t believe Slot can fix it. The worrying thing for them and for most of us I guess, is the lack of graft and desire.

It’s crazy that this time last year people were singing his praises. How quickly things change.

Poor results in the remaining 3 games might make his position untenable.

If we can't beat Chelsea the weekend he should pack up Saturday evening.

Yea, I’m at the point now where just to stop people going on about Slot would it be better to get Alonso (or whoever) in just so everyone is on the same page.

On a human level I feel very sad that it’s come to this. There are valid reasons as to why this season has been so poor but people are not willing to entertain them and just want him out. It’s weird in a way…i think the board and Slot himself thought they would have more time and are probably a bit shocked.

A part of me thinks that it’s the whole Jota thing. That it happened during Slot’s tenure and that if he goes we won’t have to acknowledge it anymore. Clean slate.

I'm very disappointed on a human level for him also. I think he has handled himself really well considering how much turmoil he's had to face.

My concern is the direction he wants to go with this team, is a dead end. His patient, control based football just doesn't look suitable for the Premier League (that's my concern with Alonso also). He's done fine in Europe with this style but it's just out of place in England.

Iraola would be a real risk but I think his football is much better suited to the league and could translate to a big team.

He not going anywhere. I'm absolutely sure of it hell be in charge start of next season, I just really hope the club don't do something stupid and extend his contract as a sign of support if we secure CL football but you can't rule anything out given he's still there now.

Slot will have alot leeway with players like Salah, robbo, Trent leaving and the transition this brings and I genuinely believe CL football for next 2 or 3 seasons is what the hierarchy are setting a goal as these new wave of players bed in.

I really hope I'm wrong but I don't think he's anywhere leaving until next season minimum. Arsenal have could really have a strong run next few seasons with city and Liverpool on such transition. Both teams are so far off their standard from even afew seasons ago

I don't think they sent 450m last summer just to make champions league for the next couple of years imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭bdmc16

When you sell almost 300m worth of players to fund it and have generational talent finishing their careers like Trent, VVD, Ali, Robbo and Salah then it's really not that simple.

All of us could see the decline this time last year, most of us put it down to not caring after we won the league, but we've got progressively worse for the past 16 months.

Deep down i think some of us suspected what was going to happen, but none of us called it out.

It's the lack of workrate and pressing that pisses me off, we've all watched a team for the past 10 years who's foundation was workrate and pressing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,593 ✭✭✭jesuisjuste

I called this a while back, I still think with no contract on the table, and his reputation not fully in the tank yet (non-fans don't pay as much attention, or care so much as fans do), Slot may be attracted enough to walk. If he could pull a 4 year contract from Ajax, worth perhaps 12-15 M, then he may be willing to negotiate out of his current final year contract from Liverpool, and get perhaps half of what's remaining (3M or so), it might be attractive to all sides.

Alternatively he sticks around and if he has a nightmare start next year, he could be out of a job in 6 months anyway, with his reputation in tatters, and way less prospects.

I'm sure he has the confidence/arrogance to stick around but leaving on his own terms is not a bad option for him at all imo.

If he delivers CL he's safe .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,407 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Slot will have clubs much better than Ajax in for him, that's why I don't think there's much of a story here. They're a mess on and off the field right now (much worse than us)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,310 ✭✭✭dogbert27

I think Slot would do well with an Italian club, Juve or one of the Milans.

As much as the argument is that he has credit in the bank for winning the PL and deserves another season he should be looking at that credit in the bank and using it to get a move now to another top club.

If he stays and next season goes the same as Ten Haag at United then the credit will be used up and he may find himself struggling like Ten Haag is.

It's also interesting to see what National Teams look good or bad at the World Cup

Nagelsmann, Tuchel, Ancelotti are too good for international football and could easily get back to a top club job if it doesn't work out in June

I'm not saying necessarily for us, but they're the calibre of manager for the top Champions League clubs in Europe so any of them looking for a job could easily start a merry-go-round of managers

That guy BayernSpace said that FSG were looking at Nagelsmann.
