Good finisher, but just not good enough for us in general play. Awful tendency to hide, not work hard enough, and never uses his body size or pace effectively enough. Always worth his squad place for a poach in the box though — really good option off the bench if we're chasing a game and getting decent ball into the box — but wouldn't ever want to see him starting a game until he can sort out his work ethic and get a bit more aggressive and assertive outside the box. As a Corkman I'm desperate for him to do well though, and hopefully getting a bit more of a settled role with Swansea next season can sort that, if he can earn himself the starting spot that's largely eluded him this season.

He had a hamstring injury that kept him out for nearly half the season. We’ll see what happens over the summer with Vipotnik. He could be starting next season as first pick striker. At Celtic he seemed comfortable being a back up striker and was useful in that role, but when it came time to be the main striker he didn’t really grab the opportunity. Same thing now at Swansea, I think he’ll get the opportunity to be first choice again, let’s see if he can make the most of it. He’s 25, still young enough but it’s time for him to make that next step.

Ireland will need him. All it takes is an injury to Parrott and/or Ferguson and he’s starting for us.

I jotted down who I wanted to see called up based on who was available and it's near enough what Heimir selected so I'm happy. From what I've seen of Umeh this season he certainly looks like someone who can make it. Our lack of natural right backs seriously concerning.

Surprised not to see Bosun Lawal in there, given it's make up.

I think I saw that Mourinho invited Umeh to train with the senior squad last week (?).

I genuinely think there's no pleasing this moaning old so and so. He'd start an arguement in an empty room just to moan.

Injured unfortunately. Supposedly has picked up his third hamstring injury this season. Not looking good for him on the injury front. Missed a lot of football last season with a back injury.

Surprised at Emakhu being called up. HH probably wanting to look at him because of his pace. I thought Aaron Connolly could have been a surprise call up. Back from injury and while it's L1 he played well in the wide left role.

Seems they're playing a behind closed doors friendly against Real Murcia too. Bagan could be a doubt and there's a few players whose clubs asked not to be selected (Szmodics, Vale, Taylor) and sounds like they won't be called up for Qatar and Canada either.

Dunne and Bazunu are both injured along with Lawal. Robbie Brady wasn't called up as he aggravated his calf injury in the last window. Wonder if HH will give him the summer off.

Has said LOI will come into consideration for Qatar and Canada games, and Jim Crawford will be working with the seniors while Paddy McCarthy is busy with Palace.

Also said he has spoken to Elding about his commitment to Ireland which HH said is 100% Ireland and that it's a possibility he gets invited to be around the squad at the end of the month.

Bradley doing his best again to create some kind of pretend "feud" with Hallgrimsson to further his own interests. I saw a few people online who should know better falling for it too. There were never going to be domestic based players named in the squad today because of when the fixture fell.

I read that Vale and Taylor are recovering from injury or something along those lines. They might be available for Qatar and Canada.

Can LOI players be called up for these friendlies considering their season is ongoing?

That is why teams have squads of players and its not like there will be loads of them called up anyway.

From The Irish Times article they'll be getting the summer off.

Yeah they could have been called up but says he didn't except managers to release players and didn't want to interfere with players currently in season.

Victor is a player with huge potential but he isn't ready for the Ireland senior team yet. Bradley has been really trying to increase his stock by starting him in every game and pushing this narrative of him being good enough for the Ireland squad. Is there some extra incentive here? I'd have thought the deal to Arsenal was set in stone and whether he is involved or not we get the €2m regardless.

Bradley just loves the sound of his own voice. If it's not one thing he'd find something else to talk about especially when it comes to HH.

Ozhianvuna could also have a clause in his transfer regarding international caps. Don't know if it's going to be an official game but the FAI tweeted about players caps.

As a Rovers fan I'd prefer if Bradley concentrated on keeping his best players for Rovers to keep top of the league and especially with Europe coming up and also having Lopes going to the world cup.

I wonder if a couple of lads might pick up a knock in the coming days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,517 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

pick up a knock walking the dog? Their seasons are over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Doubt HH would give two **** if a lad wanted to miss this camp. Would just give him a chance to have a look at someone else.

Probably asked some lads if they wanted to go or have the extra time off. And I don't see HH being the type that if you didn't want to be called up he'd hold it against you.

Did he mention who should be excluded from the squad to make space for Victor?

He needs to just let Heimer get on with it, Heimer and staff are the ones monitoring the Irish players all over Europe (and beyond, e.g. Kevin O'Toole 😏)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Said in his OTB interview that one or two players could be added still.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,381 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I'm 99% sure if Ozhianvuna was called up Bradley woulda whined about Heimir not following the League to know it was ongoing and not caring about upsetting Rovers season.

Just read an interesting stat re Dara O'Shea. He played every minute of Ipswich's 46 league games and did so without a single booking. Can't imagine with so much squad rotation nowadays that, keepers excepted, too many players manage to be ever present for a season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,745 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Such a good player. Maybe not as physically gifted as a lad like Collins, but more than makes up for it in game intelligence.

Thats a remarkable stat for any player but especially for a center back to not pick up a single booking in 46 games.

Collins played every minute for Brentford last season as well. I assume he had a few bookings though.

Rory Finneran supposedly called up to the training camp. Captains the U19s and captained the U17s.
