Serious questions to be asked of Emery on this and the Fulham game. Wtf is he doing putting all eggs in EL basket

Fecking bunch of strangers playing a pre-season friendly vs a team desperate for their very survival.

I get that Emery can be cold. Dorchester calculations - win Thursday and next Sunday v Burnley and we're in a final and playing Champs League next year.

But fan wise, banter wise, relegating Spurs, showing desire after last Thursday....

This is mank. Things above better work out, or this will go down as absolute hubris

Alot on the players here aswell, letting spurs have the ball, no urgency, not putting any sort of pressure on, no desire. Rogers is a poor player, tielemans not at it tonight, Barkley playing to high.

Can't get on the ball at all to control the game even for a bit. There should be lads chomping at the bit to prove they are good enough to start Thursday night

He did it with Arsenal in his first season with us. 4th spot at the time was there for us, but he prioritised the Europa league. Only for us to get a hiding by Chelsea in the final. Can understand I suppose, prioritising a trophy. Just risky, if ya dont win it obviously.

Sancho needs to be pulled asap. A crime that he’s one of the top earners at the club.

They are fighting for their lives and it is showing.

I get the feeling he's putting all eggs in Burnley basket

Not excusing how were playing at all. But this is rat in the corner stuff. They're playing out of their skins for good reason.

0 shots in the first half. At home.

As damning a display of what’s in that squad as you will see. Sancho in particular is a disgraceful professional and has long since checked out of the club. You’d have to wonder how bad the situation is with Luiz that he didn’t even make this lineup.

Excuses to be made for this one with all the changes, but honestly, how many good performances have we seen from a Villa team in 2025? Truly blessed that Chelsea hired Rosenior and went into complete collapse.

If Rogers comes out for the second half, i give up, he has been an absolute disgrace, hasn't tried a leg. Sancho is having a laugh, Barkleys legs are gone.

Sancho is so bad im hoping Bailey comes on at half time.

    Ah lads :(

It is kind of strange that with all the players rested, Cash and Rogers are playing, we have no real cover for Cash and Rogers is our main attacking player.

I don’t think we can play Bogarde on Thursday even if Onana doesn’t make it, he looks very short of confidence. I think today, put Barkley in his position, Luiz in Tielemans place and Tielemans further forward and we could at least try to control the play a bit better.

    No changes. Jesus.

Work rate is the difference here.

This will likely make it 16 points from a possible 45 in 2026 so far. That is 4 months playing at the level of a team in the relegation zone. The argument that this is a generally strong team who have just phoned it in tonight doesn’t wash with me. I watched basically this exact performance against Chelsea at home not that long ago.

    All is not well.

Sancho is done. Mings is done.

Would be lucky to get 50m for Rogers at this rate

You just feel if Villa get a goal here they win it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,202 ✭✭✭Patser

That's one silver lining. End of season Sancho and Elliott can bugger off.

One of the big seasons I'd love for Villa to win Europa Cup, is to have a big 'final' day, a bookmark day, a here's your medal day for all those players who've brought us from Championship to Champions League - the long servants like Mings, McGinn, Buendia. Digne, Martinez, Konsa, Luiz.

Give them recognition....but then half of them can go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,357 ✭✭✭✭CSF

Honestly, I’m so impressed with anyone’s optimism who has Villa just turning up as something completely different on Thursday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 326 ✭✭Smurts

I can’t imagine the support on Thursday turning up in good form or with any great expectations after that dross tonight which could mean an extremely nervy stadium from the start.

Cannot believe that Emery left the same team on for 80 minutes that couldn’t muster one shot bar taking off Abraham who was getting zero service.

Haven't been this pissed off in a long time…

Buendia has no right scoring a header like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,673 ✭✭✭✭listermint

I just wanted to send them away with no clean sheet after that.

    Fck you spurs.

Spot on, the form has been chronic, Rogers form is so bad, im beginning to wonder has he been found out at this level. Things are so bad that (podcasters, click merchants) tried to big up Watkins as being back in England contention after he got a few tap ins, he has been horrendous this season.

It’s a squad in dire need of a refresh. Criticising the likes of Rogers, Watkins, Konsa, McGinn, Tielemans, Kamara (and sometimes Martinez, Pau, Cash, Digne and Onana) is very unfair. These lads are not the problem. The problem is that there’s pretty much nothing else in the squad worth a sh*t anymore.

It’s what happens when you sign Guessand, Elliot, Lindelof, Sancho, Tammy, Douglas Luiz, bring back Bailey from loan, and get f*ckall from any of them.
