Think you're forgetting the likes of OBrien, OConnor, English, ONeill ......not to mention the youthful bench

It's not really though. The ref completely bottled sending off Barry Nash. Black card or second yellow take your pick. Hegarty was walking a bit of a tightrope and I think Byrnes would have been unlucky to see red for that but plenty thought he should have. Equally Shane O Donnell can consider himself lucky as well.

The ref was handing out loads of stupid yellows which then put him in the position of giving what would have been very soft reds.

I don't think anyone should have been sent off because in every instance either the first or second yellow was soft.

big win for Limerick but I think Clare are way better than that showing

Clare know if they beat tipp and they are guaranteed getting out of Munster. Tipp are not going as well as last year and Clare I believe are favourites for the game.

even if they lose to tipp they know Cork won’t likely go full strength in last game if Cork have beaten Waterford in meantime.
and tipp are not going to beat Limerick in Limerick. That’s not happening.

So Clare for me are still favourites to get at third place.

I only watched the first half. In approximately, I think , in the first minute of extra time a Clare goal was VERY MUCH ON but in the process his jersey was OBVIOUSLY pulled - it was 100% obvious in the Tv playback when shown immediately afterwards. I reckon that it was stretched back by at least 9 inches if not close on a foot. It was not ‘seen’ by the ref , the two linesman or the two umpires so no free was given . The commentary box did ‘not see’ the jersey pull either. As a matter of fact , as play went on in the same area Limerick won a free.
BUT , BUT, But earlier in the game a linesman saw a Clare player pulling at a Lim jersey in the half back line while the ref was concentrating on play at around the Lim half back line. The ref was apparently informed by the linesman of the incident and Limerick duly scored from the resultant free.

I find the following amazing in this day and age:-

    (1) RTE never show any handpass - even in slow motion - And how skilled a player must be to legally execute it. Is RTE ‘embedded ‘ in the GAA. Potentially illegals passes not shown in case the ref can be ridiculed later. Maybe the commentators are also similarly embedded as they never make a comment on same?

    (2) when there is potentially a dangerous tackle made the ref has to make an almost a instant decision re black , yellow or red card. He may also have had a ‘glancing ‘look at something which happened in a ‘flash’ and would have only seen it from ONE ANGLE. So , for fairness, why has the GAA not adapted the policy of providing the ref with the facility to review what happened on CCTV - like what’s done in rugby?

By way of example , were the TV viewers the only ones that saw the Clare jersey being pulled and was noticed by any of the officials. Maybe shat should be the process it that one team official from each side should be allowed to bring any ‘indecression’ to the linesman who would in turn inform the referee

The game is already destroyed with stoppages as it is. Mistakes happen, tough sh1t.

The point still stands but I can't recall any of them being particularly soft to be honest. The Byrnes one wasn't blown as a free. I thought it was a fair hit myself on first viewing but not so sure watching it back and think he was fairly lucky.

Booking McInerney when he was the one thrown to the ground first but not O Brien was a strange one I thought but that's probably on the umpire.

The fella thrown to the ground is usually the one hanging off the other fellas back. I think a free is a more appropriate punishment though. I hate those one or both players yellowed for a tangle cards.

The amount of cow manure on this forum is beyond belief. The simple fact of the mater Clare were dire.

you cant balme the referee after an inept performance like that , limerick were equally excellent with their off the ball movement and rigid backs , only peter duggan had a good game in a clare jersey , mark rodgers was ok too but missed 3 frees he would normally score in his sleep

Paul kinnerks tactics are written all over todays performance and clare had no answer for it , the referee was as poor for limerick as he was for clare ,

apparently Adam hogans mother had verbals with D og Cusack before the game…..she obviously didn’t / doesnt like Cusack calling out her young lad for ‘simulation’ or is there something else that might have prompted it….either way its a fairly outrageous thing to be doing….. ‘pit’ Spillane used to get it also for randomers over the years but he probably did actually deserve it 🤣🤣

Byrnes on sod looked a perfect shoulder to shoulder. Only issue is o donnell didn't see it coming and was fairly shook after it.

O donnell on o brien was more illegal but a red would have been extremely harsh.

Did SoD score today….if not it must be the first time in years.

I haven't read it and have no wish to for my own sanity and peace of mind. But I can only guess!!

You'd wonder how people find the time to concentrate on the match on the TV while typing inane nonsense online at the same time 🙄🙄

The Clare no19 getting thrown to the ground by O'Brien and then getting booked was another shocking decision. The umpires in GAA are worse than useless. They'll do anything to avoid being involved in controversy. Lads can get digs off the ball and all theyll recommend is 2 yellows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,081 ✭✭✭✭threeball

It was straight to the chest and clipped his chin too. Wasn't anywhere near a clean shoulder.

Some of the stats are mad. Dungannon for all his good fielding didn't score and Kelly only had 3 possessions in the first half.

Only Rogers with 2 from play got more than 1 point from play for Clare.

Barry Nash scored more from play from full back than 18 or Clare's 19 players. O'Brien and Casey scored as much as the entire Clare team from play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,048 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

that was a poor call espically that there were umpires 5 yards away , but clare supporters cant be saying the ref cost us , it was a terrible performance coincided with a ruthless display from limerick , we have a lot to get right for tipp in two weeks time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,081 ✭✭✭✭threeball

Ref didn't cost ye, he was just abysmal. Should have black carded Nash for the penalty, which would have been red as he was on a yellow.

Clare were never winning it but a ref of that quality is not acceptable. Wasn't a hard game to ref.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,048 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

his linesman was chriss mooney today another suspect offical , colm lyons was the other who is an excellent refferee but there was a clear objective to let the game go today and we were not up to the battle simple as

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,821 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Sorry Windy but Colm Lyon’s is a very very poor referee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,048 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

in terms of his interpetation he is the closest to fergal horgan in my opinion that is currently on the books , horgan was a good ref in my opinion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,370 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

It definitely wasn't straight to the chest. As much as players try its hard to get it spot on with the speed of the game nowadays

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,370 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

Shane o brien, aiden o Connor and cathal o neill got 1-12 from play between them today and were outstanding again. I find Limerick fans online very hard on these talented players when its actually some of the older lads have been poor for the past 2 years.

Some of them like finn and byrnes look back to their old self this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,048 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

o'neill gets a fair raw deal just going on today stuck in the midlle of limerick supporters , will o'donohue was exposed last week by shane barrett and tommy o'connell both good players but today on o'donell was top class, in terms of sean finn i dont think i ever seen him have a bad season
