Clare team for the big one tomorrow , huge game for both teams , a win all but puts clare through to the next stage of the championship , a loss and its no margin for error in thurles saturday week , david mcinerney comes back into the match day squad at the expense of david fitzgerld who i believe is injured

Well that's was dreadful from start to finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

while we might be better than that and limerick were excellent , that was as bad a clare performance as i can remember , other than peter duggan no one had a good game

will o'donohue did some job on shane o'donnell , tony only came into the game once we had the extra man , credit to limerick they attacked out strenghts and blew us out of the water as a result , no margin for error now saturday week in thurles

1-20 to 0-10 from play is some stat for a home team too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭oppiuy

Yes though Duggan played well but we can't just lump high ball in time and time again. In contrast the limerick forwards movement was outstanding. Everything seem to go wrong for us, so hopefully it's upwards from here but these last 2 games won't be near good enough going forward

you can see kinnerrk written all over the limerick tactics , playing in zones and great movement it had us in 6s and 7s, the real worry was how they curbed both o'donnell and kelly so easily which took out our attack , and then on top of that when barry nash was the free man he set up the first goal and scored two more , thats unforgivable

i was very dissapointed with the lack of work rate from sean rynne and ryan taylor , daragh lohan tried hard but hes limited , i think we need to be starting stritch maybe ahead of reidy

No Clare score from play between 16-40th minute if I heard it right on telly. A very poor game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

yeah sounds about right , i think it was longer , i think it was from mark rodgers point at the 16th minuite to whenever diarmuid ryan got his point which was with less than 25 minutes to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

stats form todays game , lohan was probably right to take rodgers off , i didnt realise he missed 12 shots in total , diarmuid ryan held his own under the limerick puck out, while we were too pridictable with our ones,

18 scores came from the areas covered by cathal malone or rory hayes , we really need to put malone back in midfield

What can be done to tighten up the defence ? The game in Thurles is effectively knockout and we can’t let Tipp put up a huge score.

Focus is on our full back line , but they’re not helped by what’s happening on front of them.

I guess Lohan is scarred by the idea of sweeper (even just for periods in a game) but maybe Conlon could do it.

We really need Malone back in midfield, D.Lohan and Taylor is just not working.

The referee yesterday was an absolute joke. Usually a bad referee is bad for both teams , yesterday was astonishing. Hard to know how many points he was worth for Limerick.

Not knockout really. Cork beat Waterford then will put a weaker team v Clare. Even if lose to Tipp still very much in it as they are unlikely to beat Limerick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭Treble double

4 points will be enough to get top 3. Most likely scenario is that Limerick will beat Waterford and Tipp at home meaning that both can't get more than 3 points. Clare have 2 matches to get 2 points if they can't do that they deserve to be out simple as.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

yeah ,the reality is only a quick few changes will get us back on the road last year limerick beat cork by 16 points and lost the munster final to them, cork themselves beat tipperary by 15 points last year and lost the all ireland final to them

that performance was a huge drop off compared to the waterford game for whatever reason , management need to make some form of tactical changes for saturday week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭another36

Apart from the changes at the back that are badly needed the flatness across the board shouldn't be there again today back to feeling a light of hope.

    But yesterday

I was thinking that it has echos of 2019. Similar line up of fixtures and shock bad defeats with unexpected flat performances

Ye should have had a penalty b4 half time and Nash a black card. Apart from that Limerick dominated the game.

Well done Clare in the u20. Brilliant game of hurling. What u20 should be.

Yes it was and full credit to both teams. When Cork wiped out the 6 point lead in the second half I was worried but the response from the Clare lads and the stout defence in the last 10 in particular was excellent. A great pick me up after Sunday.

    Clare 1-14 Offaly 1-17

Offaly grind down clare in this one to finish stronger , the big matchup in the game was between lee person and mark mcinerney ,and the offaly full back won the battle hands down , mcinerneys marsheling was kryptonite to the clare attack who are missing keelan sexton , ciaran downes , eoin cleary , emmett mcmahon and dermot coughlin since the last meeting between the sides last year

aaron griffin led the line well ahile cormac murray was quiet in the first half stormed into the second half with an excellent goal and a two pointer within the first fifteen minutes of the half , brian mcnamara was probably the best player in a clare jersey kicked 3 points and dominated midfield for most of the game

the lack of help in the middle was crucial in the latter parts of the game as offaly started to dominate the kickouts when the game was in the ballence

Clare dominated the possession stakes in the first half against the wind but lack of shooters and a quiet mcinerney ment scores were a minimum , offaly possession was at a minimum too but kicked 9 points from play with dylan hyland , keith o'neill and jordan hayes kicking some very good scores with minumim possession before the break

With a 0-9 0-4 depict at half time to claw back clare hit the ground running an early, 1-2 from cormac murray had clare back in the game only for shane tierney to palm a ball into the net at the other end to make it 1-9 to 1-8 after 15 minutes , brian macnamara had a super game and kicked clare ahead on two occasians in the but without any help offaly started to dominated the game in the last ten minutes in the kick out stakes and drove on , hyland ,marcus dalton and substitute harry plunket drove on the visitors who were deserved winners in the end

Dylan Hyland , lee pearsons and marcus dalton were excellent for the winners with an excellent cameo from harry plunkett, hard to make too many cases for our lads bar brian mc and aaron griffin who worked seriously hard , a good run out for the younger lads but huge improment required

    Cormac Murray 1-2

    Brian McNamara 0-3

    Aaron Griffin 0-3 ,

    Mark McInerney 0-2

    Alan Sweeney, 0-1

    Cillian Brennan, 0-1

    Fionn Kelleher, 0-1

    Joe Rafferty 0-1

personally i think we got away with murder tactally in the wins over wexford , dublin and waterford that led up to the limerick game ,

limerick being the far superior team both tactally and physicallywere able to expose our weekness's last week while laying down markers to o'donnell and kelly and took them out of the game , its not many teams that can put all that together like they did last week

limerick supporters know though that they are not doing it consistantly enough the last 3 years so the celebrtions were tame enough last week , a performance like that would have most counties jumping up and down about their all ireland contendership

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

that was an excellent second half performance , graham ball had a super game when he came on , and where has his club mate thomas o'connor come from , while we all know he comes from solid stock he has become a revelation since his minor days

While it is the the class of 2023 minor all ireland team , marco cleary and o'connor have added so much to the attack , cleary is a real pocher he could go 20 minutes without seeing the ball but seriously dangerous when on it ,

michael o'halloran another from good stock had some game too, great to see how well ronan kilroy is hurling after the month he has just had

Two cracks at the whip it looks like after tonight, if tipp beat us on saturday they will probably need to beat limerick next round too to make sure of going through

if they dont and we win in cork we will be through , but who wants that…….! win next saturday and we are through to the next round regardless of what tipp do

    Awful performance from the footballers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,053 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

given that they are missing , stephan ryan , cillian rouine , darragh bohannan ,dermot coughlin , emmett mcmahon and eoin cleary , along with keelan , ciaran downes and sean mcallister from last year even daragh burns or evan cahill as options off the bench , that is an enormous amount of players to be missing

untill we get a core of them players back we will be struggling in division 3 , we dont have the players to replace them

Just 13 steps there for that Tipp goal in the u20 match. Crazy. Its one thing a lad getting in 7 or 8 steps but 13!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,636 ✭✭✭Gael85

Clare one dimensional lamping everything in top of O'Connor.

What was that last Tipp free for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭Firstsub

It was the traditional free to level up the game. Certainly not for a foul as there was none

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭dirtyden

Steps was a bad miss by ref, evened up by a suspect penalty award.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,008 ✭✭✭French Toast

Goalie scored one and saved 3, some going!
