Fair play to Mark Allen, no way should he have been expected to give up a 34 point lead.

In the end he was pressured to give up 7 points and an opening, it was his opponent who wanted to play that nonsense all night

    Unsporting from Wu

I know the rule. But I’ve seen lot examples where it really wasn’t necessary, like when balls weren’t really close, and where it was clear what ball was to be played.

Wouldn't agree his was a fluke. He's won a bunch of ranking titles and a masters. Also gotten to a final of the WC before. As much as I don't enjoy watching him, he's a pretty successful player.

If Jack Jones has somehow managed to win that final it could be called a fluke!

Can never understand anyone saying winning a world title is a fluke.

It's a 2 week marathon and you need to win (at least) 5 matches and 71 frames.

I think if someone is not a fan of somebody then it's easier to put down their successes.

For many years on the world snooker threads here, people used to dismiss some of Ronnie's world titles because he "only beat the likes of Graeme Dott" in the final.

The same Graeme Dott who was a 3 time finalist and former winner just as Ken Doherty was.

Mark still gave away the control of the frame by potting black and allowing Wu to then pot a red and take over. I don’t think Allen weighed up options/risks good enough. A re-rack allows him hold his 1 frame lead and possibly increase it to 2 if he wins the re-rack. He chose in my view the riskier option by potting the black, which gave away 7 points, allowed Wu control table to make a break.

Robertson would love that ….🤣. I always wondered overall if the format was bit shorter would Jimmy White have won a world title?

I checked the frames at the end of the 1994 Final Hendry v White. The one Jimmy lost 18-17. Even then Hendry reached 17 before Jimmy. 17-16 - then Jimmy levelled at 17-17.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Well Jimmy would have won 1992 when he was 14-8 up.

Anyway, there are five days of the year with a snooker match on that is in excess of best of 25.

The rest of the year is yours and there are unlimited matches around the World if you go looking.

Can we just have our 5 days. It'll be over on Monday.

A soft World title is a fairer description of Kyren’s world title in 2024 -the draw opened up for him.

Higgins was the only top player of note Kyren beat.

First Round: Dominic Dale (Ranked 40) — 10–1

    • Second Round: Joe O'Connor (Ranked 30) — 13–6

    • Quarter-finals: John Higgins (Ranked 13) — 13–8

    • Semi-finals: David Gilbert (Ranked 31) — 17–11

    • Final: Jak Jones (Ranked 44) — 18–14

    -/

My perception is whoever wins the title this year will have earned it. Having to dig deep etc. Until Kyren does that there will always be a question. Well he had the luck of the draw.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

You say it'll be over on Monday but i fear if we get an Allen v Higgins final they could still be playing on Tuesday afternoon.

And if Olivier Marteel Is refereeing that final Ken’s 30th anniversary celebration of his title next year might be delayed…

    -/

Panic over- Rob Spencer has been named as the ref for the final

Rob Spencer is a solid choice. His no nonsense manner would remind you a bit of Jan Verhaas.

They have the gravitas around the table.

What happened Desai this year? She was reffing an early match and i haven't seen her since.

    Brilliant from Wu.

That was an excellent 140 total clearance from Wu. There were some tricky pots early on, a plant he manufactured and a really tricky cut brown at the end. He goes 11-10 in front.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,390 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

What a break by Wu 21st frame - even the way he didn’t hesitate before taking that plant. And the cheeky brown exhibition shot at the end . Magic stuff. Really enjoying this match.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

The 2 frames that they lost yesterday because of the longest ever frame, will be played tonight instead of this afternoon. I think they should be played now, they've enough time to do so, and it could help prevent a late finish tonight.

I think we are looking at this year's winner in Wu

    This evening.

Higgins v Murphy plays to a finish this afternoon from 2.30.

I doubt it. Come back tonight for a possible 11 frames.

11-11 each Wu v Allen. Maybe they should make it like table tennis? After a certain point a player has to win by a margin of two to be called the victor.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Late finish works for me. Won’t miss it all because of the Dublin v Louth match.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
