Vitus 979 in rare white, size 50cm - this

Full Dura Ace 7400 groupset, including F&R mech, 6 speed shifters, headset, crankset, pedals, brake set,

    Gear block is 6 spd Shimano 600 - 13t-18t.

Wheels are Dura Ace 7400 hubs on Mavic GP4 rims with Clement tubs.

    Cinelli bars and stem,

    Campag seatpost,

    Selle Italia Turbo 'Hinault' saddle.

Overall in good condition, the frame appears intact and solid and apart from a few marks to the paint on the top tube is in excellent condition. The chain was replaced by previous owner, everything else is from the 80s, gears and chainrings have very little wear and overall the bike has seen little use. Bar tape needs replacing, original brake hoods have been replaced as they were perished, needs use new brake cables. I've been slowly stripping and cleaning, the brakes have been rebuilt, everything needs a service and the tubs reglued.

Only selling due to too many projects and need the space otherwise this would be kept.

Happy to sort more pictures and answer any questions

    €700ono

Good luck with the sale @Duchamp

I couldn't get anyone interested in a pristine vintage Raleigh Dynatech Laurent Fignon replica at a fraction of this price last year. The market for collectibles seems dead.

    Thanks @MojoMaker

Mulling it over this evening and definitely overpriced it…

open to offers people, or will part it out if there's enough interest

Hard to say what it's worth to be honest.

Certainly more than mine, but I couldn't shift mine for 100 euro.

I'd probably have made a decent offer if in my size, the problem with the Irish market is that its not large enough and you have to tick to many boxes for each individual. You might be better looking over to the UK or EU retro markets for a price and be ready to post if the price is sufficient enough but that is a pain in the arse

IT's too small for me, otherwise I'd have offered 500 and tbh 700 isnt a bad price either.

EBay with a view to selling it abroad might be a better bet.

Also too small for me unfortunately.

I've often wondered if a Vintage Steel Bike style cafe link up with an amateur bike restorer could work… a bit like when you see artists priced work hanging on restaurant/ cafe walls for sale. Could have a handy link to a web page as well. Possibly even link up with more than one bike restorer. There's something to be said for seeing bikes in the flesh to encourage you to part with money lol. Would also be a handy outlet for the amateur bike restorers out there who do great stuff. A shame to see so many nice bikes sit idle/ gather dust/ go to rust.

Possibly a thought for another thread!

GLWS anyway - lovely looking bike.

Excellent idea. There's a few of these in the UK, US and Europe. Check out Steel Vintage Bikes in Berlin.

Haven't gotten there yet but I made sure my son grabbed me a T-shirt and bidon on his last work trip to Germany!

Back on topic; lovely bike, lovely parts, but slightly overpriced for the limited Irish market. Would probably sell easier if parted out. Vitus frames are well regarded here due to the Sean Kelly connection. Vintage Dura Ace has a strong following worldwide, due to its durability. Likewise with vintage mavic wheels and Cinelli bars/stems.

The arse has well and truly fallen out of prices here.

Yeah, I've been to one of the Berlin SVB shops (think they have two there?). Could "easily" be replicated here by someone with the relevant skillsets (restaurant/ sales/ bike mechanic) as there's literally no competition, an insatiable demand for coffee, and cycling being the new golf. Throw in a nod to hipsterism and you're away. The Rothar shop of Fade Street a good few years back was probably best positioned to give it a go. Unfortunately I have none of the skillsets (nor the money to back it!). Anyway, I digress…
