Was wondering if anybody had an opinion on a dealership in Dublin, called “Car Gallery” located on Sarsfield road, I’m looking to buy a used car and I found them on DoneDeal. Can’t find any website or reviews online. Just want to know if they are a dodgy dealership or anyone would recommend, don’t want to put my money into something that would fall apart the next day

Not listed on solo check.ie as a company.

The address (53 Sarsfield Road) quoted on their pages on the donedeal and carsireland websites is occupied by Cleary's pub and (on Google Maps, second link below), there is no sign of a nearby car dealer …

There's no ambiguity here. Along with the street address, they give an Eircode of D10 VH57 on both donedeal and carsireland and if you look that up on the Eircode website, it explicity says that the premises is Cleary's pub.

When contacting the man running the place he said that they are located behind the pub, sounds quite strange to me

So he's renting a yard behind a pub and using the pub's address for his 'business'. And didn't even bother to register 'Car Gallery' as a business name.

Good luck trying to take him to court if he sells you a dud.

Stay as far from them as you can.

I know that with used cars something can go wrong but with them it must!

I got the car from them where a piece of cloth was put by them under the engine to absorb leaking oil and prevent it from dropping on the ground to hide engine and gear box leaks! Clearly intentional. Car was described as perfectly fine. Of course they don’t take any responsibility when I got back to them. Will take them to the court now and everybody be aware.

They don’t even have website and no reviews online as you can’t review business that legally doesn’t even exist. They are to fool as many customers as they can, close the business and start again under new name probably

    1st post ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,892 ✭✭✭Deagol

1 first time reg posts a question and then another 1st time posts a critical review… sounds kosha 😏

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 bigbart100

I understand that positive review would be more appreciated here as first time post and less suspicious…

This is the only place where you can find anything about Car Gallery in the whole internet. Is this so strange that someone register only to share their opinion on this subject or earlier another person registered only to ask a question???

    Indeed very very suspicious

Its a common tactic of competitors to get one person to ask what appears to be a neutral question and then get another friendly person or 3 to post negative comments.

If that's not whats happened here, I apologise for casting aspersions. But you have to understand that without any evidence to the contrary, it looks suspicous.

Hi there, I understand the suspicion, I didn’t know boards.ie users were so adamant about the amount of posts you make haha! But anyway, I must make an update about this to help anybody in the same position.

I’m sure Bigbart100 is in the same boat as me, I could not find much online about this dealership so I went here to ask quickly for opinions since people seem to respond quick.

Therefore I made an account and posted my question.

Unfortunately I had viewed and bought the car soon after, as to me, on arrival it seemed to just be a new place starting up with a friendly seller.

After many months of head wreck trying to figure out legal stances and contact the dealership, I had regretfully forgotten about my question here which could have helped others to not make the same mistake.

Upon purchase of the car everything seemed perfect, it was shown as described, the only issue was coolant seemed to be quite full up, they told me this was simply the engine cycling it through the tank (I am not knowledgeable on cars and had no source for help in this manner hence my post here).

The car drove well and seemed good to me, it was a good price, they were friendly and nothing seemed off. It was my first time buying a car, so I was very naive.

Soon after purchase the car started overheating, I got it checked locally by a garage that said it was a blown head gasket. I contacted this dealership asking what can be done but they were very aggressive and stopped responding.

I fought for months to find out how I could get any sort of compensation or help but in the end was told the best I could do was go to small claims court. Which would only be a small fraction back from the price I paid for the car if it even worked. I gave up and lost hope.

They are tricksters, scammers, they target people who don’t know any better. I’m a 21 year old woman, it was my first car purchase and I saved money for ages. Of course I could have been wiser about this but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they are out there to scam innocent people and most likely rebrand each time they are caught.

Their ‘dealership’ has been reported to Kilmainham garda, to donedeal, no avail yet.

I hope this post changes anybody’s mind on this question and responses from bigbart100 being some sort of tactic.
Honestly, all I want to say is look elsewhere for a car, that’s all.

Sorry to hear that .it's not a garda matter though they might get to check who's behind business more small claims court

Sorry about your troubles, but you can just go to the small claims court and get €2,000 to put towards the repair costs. It's not that difficult

You've got to get the €2000 out of them though. All very well getting a judgement.

I think most businesses will just settle before court tbh. Worth a try, considering it's only €20 and doesn't require a solicitor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 pugjunior

Yes I’m considering trying out that, tried many other avenues and was led in loops by people with no answer. Believe it or not my local garda are enraged by this and are investigating so maybe something will come of that too haha

Don't see how it. Concerns them

It may not concern them but they seem to want to help to their best ability and I’m really appreciative of it

My mate got his car stolen from him by a dealership and the Garda still couldn't do anything about it.

    Have they moved already ?

This one has the same mobile number and stock similar.

They agreed to buy the car off him and never paid him. It was a €20,000 car and Garda couldn't do anything about it

Your friend should consult a solicitor.

Depending on the exact circumstances it's possible that a criminal offence was committed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,270 ✭✭✭✭User1998

They got a car of similar value off them a year later

I'm glad to hear they got sorted.

Just as a point of information it's important to remember that fraud is a criminal matter.

Garda and solicitors were of no help unfortunately. Multiple victims got together and reported to the same Garda / solicitor and still nothing could be done
